Like most email marketing providers these days, You’ll Need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the program.
When you first register, you’ll be asked to complete your profile.
This includes information such as your company name, website, Business, address, business size, list size and even the kind of material you plan to send.
Then, You Have to verify your Site (or domain name).
This remains part of the approval process, and MailerLite will Simply inquire which email is associated to this domain so they could email you a verification link.
Once you’ve completed these Steps, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite team will review your application, check your Website, and ascertain whether you’re a fantastic fit for their services.
(In other words, they’re making sure you’re not a spammer/scammer)
As shown above, you’ll nevertheless be Able to use the software to create campaigns and perform with the attributes, but you will not have the ability to send anything until approved.
I had been”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limit of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
But while these steps are not ideal for getting started, it Does help stop malicious users from hurting everyone else’s deliverability.
If you are anything like me, you’ll rely on automations to Deal with The majority of your email advertising.
(We’ll get to automations soon, don’t worry.)
But if it is a brand new blog post, podcast, or timely Announcement, there’s always a reason to send a more immediate email.
That’s where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the brand new’Create Campaign’ will give you several choices.
– Regular campaign: A Conventional broadcast email.
– A/B split campaign: Multiple email Variations, such as subject line, from title and, yes, even email content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to readers who Do not start your broadcast email, together with the choice of altering the subject line and email content.
– RSS effort: Produce a recurring campaign That sends new content to subscribers using your site’s RSS feed.
Aside from a few additional choices, the Majority of these will follow The same step-by-step procedure of a normal effort.
So let us walk you through it.
As Soon as You click on to create your campaign, you’ll be requested to Pick a preferred editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
Otherwise, you can change to the Templates tab and choose from among the pre-designed email templates — that will move you to the dragn’ drop editor by default.
In the time of writing, there are 21 email templates to choose From which is somewhat on the low side, but the designs are super modern.
And, of course, if you would just Prefer to reuse a previous email, you can click the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this instance, I’ll choose the first template from the library.
The editor is easy to work with, Which makes customizing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also utilize the blocks in the sidebar to add distinct Types of articles to your email, such as videos, product columns, and social connections.
After making your adjustments, simply click’Done Editing’ and you’ll Be taken to the recipients’ options where you can select your groups or sections.
The tab also allows you To develop segment-like rules on-the-fly, in the event your targeting is not quite right.
Finally, right before sending, you’ll get into the’Schedule’ screen.
This is where you control when your broadcast email should go Out, whether that is immediately, at a set time/date, or according to your subscribers time zones.
Impressive, right? 4Th Of July Email Marketing
Handling Your Subscribers
Possessing granular control over your readers is arguably among The most important aspects of any email advertising program now.
Because highly personalized campaigns are necessary if You are searching to increase opens, clicks, and, most importantly, your conversions.
And while many providers Permit You to”tag” readers in order To target them more effectively, MailerLite utilizes a slightly different approach.
When you start up your subscriber dashboard, you’ll notice two Options; Segments and Groups.
Segments are basically principles.
Your readers belong to a segment only when they meet the Specified principles, and will be automatically inserted or removed accordingly.
Here is what setting up a rule looks like:
Notice the way you can even combine Rules, in addition to an alternate rule if the first doesn’t exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The following tab is for groups, and despite the difference in title, These behave much like your normal”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the name to’Tags’, but ultimately decided against it)
Contrary to Segments, Groups are upgraded manually or via an Automation principle — that we’ll get into in a minute — and they don’t have any value besides what you actually call them.
As you Begin to use this platform, you’ll begin to understand Where Segments and Groups are typically used, however, MailerLite delivers a hand in the event you’re uncertain:
Fundamentally, groups are more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments permit you to bulge multiple contributors collectively according to a common denominator.
Somewhat confusing, I’ll admit… but I believe it’s a fair trade-off For the additional flexibility. In any case, they’re optional.
Last, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this region with their own areas, such as title, business, and country.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do so by Clicking on the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV file of your readers together with Your custom field information in distinct columns… or can simply add these fields to a types which will only apply to future subscribers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test field I created and added into a form:
I won’t go too much to the shape Stuff here because I have a whole section on that below, but this is the approach I’d recommend if you wanted to use this attribute.
Again, once you’ve collected your custom field data from fresh Subscribers, you can pull them into your email content and subject line.
Just click the’Personalization’ drop down and select your Custom field.
I am barely scraping the surface Of what is possible with custom fields, but it is important to know this is a feature you can use.
Overall, it’s reasonable to say MailerLite has their subscriber Management and personalization features on stage. 4Th Of July Email Marketing
If you’re not impressed by what you have seen so far, then perhaps The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ in the forms page, you will be Able to pick from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template choice Isn’t winning any awards, it does offer a great foundation to work from if, like most people, you don’t have that natural eye for design.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, though They all finally do the identical task; accumulate an email address.
This time, the editor will Provide you 17 building blocks to Further build or change your landing page.
Now, I’ve used my fair share of Visual site builders, and it is already better than some dedicated solutions *Infection * WPBakery.
Together with the fundamental building blocks, you can use components like Hero segments, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
No, it won’t be replacing landing Page builders like Thrive Architect or LeadPagesanytime shortly, but credit where credit due, this item over-delivers on all 3 kind types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email advertising tools, MailerLite really offers a Decent set of type building tools.
Also, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this exact same interface, so there’s a whole lot to cover .
Let’s start with your Bog-standard embedded form.
These forms are first created inside MailerLite so as to get An embed code, which you can then put on your site to display it on particular pages.
Despite starting off super basic, the form designer allows you To personalize everything from the kind style, subjects, background, title, enter fields and, of course, the button.
Form text can also be edited directly, which Provides you a Opportunity To visualize your backup in real time.
It would’ve been nice to have Some templates here, but as you know, there’s more to some form than just its appearance.
Clicking the’Settings’ tab will allow you to configure the way the Form works, such as adding additional fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There is a GDPR compliance alternative. Sweet.)
And talking of the success webpage…
…MailerLite also enables you to customize the default message, Which will replace the embedded form also prevents users from redirecting.
Last but surely not least, you Can check how your form displays on cellular by switching the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t Have the Ability to make any design changes here, but it makes Sense to test, nevertheless.
So that is an Summary of this Embedded form but as I said before, you can even create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the majority of this setup Procedure is identical, there are A few differences I’d like to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most In depth selection, they do provide a good foundation to work from and the editor is at least as simple to use for this form kind.
Clicking on the’E-commerce’ template requires me into a preview Before moving to the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are some new choices under form types This time around:
Considering paid tools like Thrive Leads exist for ribbons and slide-in forms, it is pretty impressive to observe this level of control over popup forms.
And, as before, you can play with the styling options to get it Matched up with your branding.
Finally, you can Select the close Behavior of your form under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is the X icon, but you can swap out this for A”No thanks” text option, or have .
This is where most email Marketing platforms would render you, but MailerLite has yet another trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like most tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Data in the main dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from campaign open and click info, Subscriber growth, automation stats, and form signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you special reporting for that campaign.
This is where you’ll find a few more advanced statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, reading environment, email client and more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average consumer…
…but if you really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into individual areas of this report for a more detailed breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.
For example, the’View Email’ tab also displays a click map, so It’s possible to see how your subscribers interacted with your mails in relation to another.
Reports for automations will also be Available under the’Automations’ tab, although I found these to be less insightful than campaign reports.
Here’s a quick example:
Total, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting port, and most will get the available data more than sufficient to meet their demands.
What’s email marketing without a dashboard of automation?
For many reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could easily make or break this particular review.
The good news? If you’ve used a visual workflow builder, You’ll immediately feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, That the automations interface is easy, clean and simple to navigate — something which certainly can’t be said for each and every email marketing program.
After establishing your trigger, you can Start adding steps to your workflow.
These steps can be anything from sending an email, adding a Postpone, a conditional split, or an act, such as transferring a subscriber or updating their records.
Here’s a straightforward workflow I set together, where readers Are unsubscribed if they don’t open my email within seven days.
There are countless Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations similar to this, and MailerLite should have no trouble with the vast majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign since it lacks a number of the conditional components. (Split, Go To, Goal, etc.)
For Instance, there’s now no automation for moving Readers directly into a different automation.
That being said, most of these actions can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into different groups that trigger new automation workflows. It’s simply not as efficient…. yet.
Another question of efficacy here is when generating new mails In the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email block to The workflow, you’ll be asked to put in your subject line that then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking on the’Design email’ button will fire up the Editor:
Now, you’ll be temporarily Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered earlier in the critique.
This time, but once you’ve established your email, clicking the ‘Done editing’ button will direct you back to the automations workflow instead of the usual sending alternatives.
Finally, your email will be Loaded into your automation.
A nice touch here is using a thumbnail preview of your Email within your automation block, which means you can find an concept about what it contains at a glimpse.
While this process may seem like A grind on paper, it is really much quicker than what I’m used to with other email advertising tools — ActiveCampaign being a fantastic example.
On the other hand, if you’ve come over from something like ConvertKit where The editor is loaded inside the automations builder, you’ll likely find this a downgrade in performance.
It is quick enough for me, Personally, but I guess it is all relative.
Before I wrap up this segment, there’s one type of automation You won’t find in MailerLite, and I think that it’s important to highlight.
The ability to trigger an automation (or measure ) based on the way Subscribers interact with all the pages on your site.
This Sort of behavioral targeting only is not available in MailerLite at this time, so if it’s something you use or intend to use, you might want to skip this one. 4Th Of July Email Marketing
The cost of MailerLite is one of the tools biggest Selling things, and let’s face it, we all love a fantastic bargain.
For starters, they offer an unlimited free plan that includes All features (including premium) for as many as 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding in your emails using this program, it’s still an wonderful option for anyone starting out.
And what about the top programs?
It ends up, at around half the Cost of the competition on average, MailerLite is undoubtedly among the cheapest options on the industry. Additionally, if you are ready to pay annually, you can also get a much better discount.
In fact, I have not been able to find anything that does the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is one of the few advertising tools to interrupt The (very crowded) sector in recent decades, which is no easy feat.
While it is not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it performs exceptionally well at virtually anything you can throw at it.
I find MailerLite strikes the best balance Between flexibility, speed and simplicity, and all at a price point you’ll seriously struggle to beat.
