When I asked you to name an email Marketing instrument, what would you say? Benchmark Email Marketing
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like most online businesses now, email marketing has been Dominated by the identical large players for the previous decade. Which means they get promoted very heavily and accomplish a lot of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the marketplace, causing long-time customers to question their loyalties.

Like most email advertising providers these days, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to correctly use the program.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to finish your profile.
This includes information like your company name, website, Industry, address, company size, list size and also the kind of content you intend to send.
Then, you need to verify your Website (or domain name).
This remains part of the acceptance process, and MailerLite will Simply inquire which email is associated to that domain so they can email you a verification link.
Once you’ve completed these Steps, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite team will review your application, assess your Website, and ascertain whether you’re a good fit for their services.
(Quite simply, they’re making sure you’re not a spammer/scammer)
As revealed above, you’ll still be Able to utilize the software to create campaigns and play with the attributes, but you will not have the ability to send anything before approved.
I had been”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limit of 500 subscribers.
Here Is What the email said:
However, while these measures aren’t perfect for getting started, it Does help stop unscrupulous users from hurting everyone else’s deliverability.
If you are anything like me, you’ll rely on automations to handle The majority of your email marketing.
(We’ll get to automations shortly, do not worry.)
But whether it is a brand new blog article, podcast, or timely Announcement, there’s always a reason to send a more instant email.
That’s where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the brand new’Create Campaign’ will provide you several choices.
– Regular effort: A traditional broadcast email.
– A/B split effort: Multiple email Versions, including subject line, from title and, yes, even content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to subscribers who Don’t open your broadcast email, with the choice of altering the subject line and email content.
– RSS effort: Produce a recurring campaign That sends fresh content to subscribers using your site’s RSS feed.
Aside from a few additional options, most of these will follow Exactly the exact same step-by-step process of a standard campaign.
So let us walk you through it.
Once you click on to create your effort, you’ll be requested to Select a favorite editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
You can change to the Templates tab and select from one of the pre-designed email templates — which will move you into the dragn’ drop editor by default.
In the time of writing, you’ll find 21 email templates to choose From which is somewhat on the low side, but the designs are super modern.
And, of course, if you would just Like to reuse a previous email, you can click the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this example, I’ll choose the first template from the library.
The editor is easy to use, Making viewing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the cubes in the sidebar to add distinct Kinds of content to your email, such as videos, merchandise columns, and social links.
After making your adjustments, simply click’Done Editing’ and you will Be taken to the recipients’ choices where you can choose your groups or segments.
The tab also allows you To build segment-like rules , in the event your targeting is not quite right.
Finally, right before sending, you’ll get into the’Schedule’ screen.
This is where you control if your broadcast email should go Out, whether that’s instantly, at a set time/date, or in accordance with your subscribers time zones.
Impressive, right? Benchmark Email Marketing
Managing Your Subscribers
Possessing granular control over your subscribers is arguably one of The most important aspects of any email marketing program now.
Because highly personalized efforts are necessary if You’re searching to increase clicks, opens, and, above all, your conversions.
And while many providers Permit You to”label” readers in order To target them more effectively, MailerLite utilizes a slightly different approach.
When you start up your subscriber dashboard, you’ll see two Options; Segments and Groups.
Segments are basically rules.
Your subscribers belong to a section only when they meet the Specified principles, and will be automatically added or eliminated accordingly.
Here’s what setting up a rule looks like:
Notice the way you can also combine Rules, in addition to an alternate rule if the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The next tab is for classes, and despite the difference in title, These act much like your usual”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the name to’Tags’, but ultimately decided against it.)
Unlike Segments, Groups are upgraded manually or through an Automation rule — which we’ll get into in a moment — and they don’t have any value aside from what you call them.
As you start to use this stage, you’ll Start to understand At which Segments and Groups are generally used, however, MailerLite offers a hand in case you’re uncertain:
Basically, groups are more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments allow you to lump multiple subscribers together based on a common denominator.
Somewhat confusing, I will admit… but I believe it is a fair trade-off For the additional flexibility. In any case, they are discretionary.
Last, the’Fields’ tab is used to customize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this region with their own fields, such as name, company, and country.
If You Would like to create your own custom fields, you can do this by Clicking the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV file of your subscribers along with Your custom field data in separate columns… or can easily add these fields to your forms which will only apply to prospective subscribers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test area I made and added to a form:
I won’t go too much into the form Stuff here since I have a whole section on that below, but this is the strategy I would recommend if you wanted to use this attribute.
Again, as Soon as You’ve gathered your custom field data from fresh Subscribers, you are able to pull them in to your email content and subject line.
Just click the’Personalization’ drop down and select your Customized field.
I am barely scratching the surface Of what’s possible with custom fields, but it is important to know this is a feature you can use.
Overall, it’s reasonable to state MailerLite has their contributor Direction and personalization features on stage. Benchmark Email Marketing
If you’re not impressed by what you have seen up to Now, then maybe The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ from the forms page, then you will be Able to pick from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template selection Isn’t winning any awards, but it does offer a fantastic base to work from if, like the majority of us, you don’t have that pure eye for layout.
I went ahead and selected the’Lead Generation’ template, though They ultimately do the identical job; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will give you 17 building blocks to Further build or alter your landing page.
Now, I have used my fair share of Visual page builders, and this is better than some dedicated alternatives *Infection * WPBakery.
Along with the basic building blocks, you can use elements like Hero sections, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
No, it will not be replacing landing Page builders like Thrive Architect or even LeadPagesanytime soon, but credit where credit due, this item over-delivers on all 3 form types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email marketing tools, MailerLite really offers a Decent pair of form building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this same interface, so there’s a lot to cover here.
Let us begin with your Bog-standard embedded type.
These forms are created inside MailerLite in order to get An embed code, which you can then put on your site to display it on particular pages.
Despite beginning super fundamental, the form designer allows you To personalize everything in the form style, fields, background, title, enter fields and, clearly, the button.
Form text may also be edited directly, which Provides you a chance To envision your own backup in real time.
It would have been nice to have Some templates here, but as you know, there’s more to some form than just its physical appearance.
Clicking on the’Settings’ tab will Make It Possible for you to configure how the Form functions, such as adding extra fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There’s even a GDPR compliance alternative. Sweet.)
And speaking of the success page…
…MailerLite also enables you to customize the default message, Which can replace the embedded form and prevents users .
Last but surely not least, you Can assess how your form screens on cellular by switching the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t be able to make any layout changes here, but it makes Sense to test, nevertheless.
So that is an Summary of the Embedded form but like I said before, you can also create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the majority of this setup process is identical, you will find A few differences I’d like to point out.
Unlike embedded forms, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most In depth selection, they do offer a good base to work from and the editor is at least as easy to use with this form type.
Clicking the’E-commerce’ template takes me to a preview Before moving to the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are a few new choices under form types Now around:
Considering paid tools like Thrive Leads exist for both ribbons and slide-in forms, it’s pretty impressive to observe this level of control over popup types.
And, as before, you can perform with the styling options to get it Matched up with your branding.
Finally, you can choose the close Behavior of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is the X icon, but you can swap this out for A”No thanks” text option, or have .
This is really where most email Marketing platforms would leave you, but MailerLite has yet another trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Statistics in the main dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from campaign open and click data, Subscriber development, automation stats, and kind signups.
Clicking into any effort will Give you special coverage for that campaign.
This is where you’ll discover some more advanced statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, reading surroundings, email client and much more.
This should be plenty of Information for the ordinary consumer…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, it is possible to click into different areas of this report for a more comprehensive breakdown.
You can find some real gems under These reports.
By Way of Example, the’View Email’ tab also shows a click map, so It’s possible to see your readers interacted to another.
Reports for automations are also Available under the’Automations’ tab, although I found to be less enlightening than effort reports.
Here’s a Fast example:
Total, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting port, and many will get the available statistics more than sufficient to fulfill their needs.
What’s email advertising without a dashboard of automation?
For many reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could easily make or break this review.
The good news? If you have used a visual workflow builder, then You will immediately feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, The automations interface is simple, clean and simple to navigate — something which certainly can’t be said for every email advertising program.
After establishing your trigger, you can begin adding measures to your workflow.
These steps can be anything from sending an email, adding a Delay, a conditional split, or an action, like moving a subscriber or updating their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I set together, where readers Are unsubscribed if they do not open my email within 7 days.
There are innumerable Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite ought to have no trouble with the vast majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something such as ActiveCampaign because it lacks some of the conditional elements. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.)
For Instance, there’s now no automation for transferring Subscribers directly into another automation.
That being said, the Majority of these actions can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into different classes that trigger new automation workflows. It’s simply much less efficient…. yet.
Another matter of efficiency here is when generating new mails In the automation workflow builder.
After having an email cube to The workflow, you’ll be asked to put in your subject line which then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking on the’Design email’ button will fire up the Writer:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the standard campaign creation wizard, which I covered earlier in the review.
This time, however, once you’ve created your email, clicking on the ‘Done editing’ button will direct you straight back to the automations workflow rather than the usual sending options.
Ultimately, your email address will probably be Loaded into your automation.
A nice touch here is having a thumbnail preview of your Email within your automation block, which means it’s possible to get an concept about what it contains at a glance.
While this procedure may seem like A grind on paper, it is really much faster than what I’m utilized to with other email marketing tools — ActiveCampaign being a fantastic example.
On the other hand, if you’ve come over from something like ConvertKit where The editor is loaded inside the automations builder, you’ll probably find this a downgrade in functionality.
It’s fast enough for me, Personally, but I guess it’s all relative.
Before I wrap up this section, there is 1 type of automation You won’t find in MailerLite, also that I think it’s very important to highlight.
The ability to trigger an automation (or step) based on the way Readers interact with the pages on your website.
This Sort of behavioral targeting just is not available in MailerLite at this time, so if it’s something you use or plan to use, you may want to skip this one. Benchmark Email Marketing
The cost of MailerLite is no doubt one of the tools biggest Selling things, and let’s face it, we all love a good bargain.
For starters, they offer an unlimited free plan that includes All features (including premium) to get as many as 1,000 subscribers.
While There’s some subtle Branding on your mails using this plan, it is still an amazing alternative for those starting out.
And what about the top plans?
It turns out, at around half the Cost of the rivalry generally, MailerLite is by far among the least expensive options available on the market. Plus, if you are willing to pay annually, you are also able to get an even greater discount.
In Reality, I haven’t been able to find anything that does the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is among those few advertising tools to interrupt The (very crowded) industry in the last couple of decades, and that’s no simple feat.
While it is not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it performs exceptionally well at virtually anything you can throw at it.
Overall, I find MailerLite strikes the perfect balance Between flexibility, simplicity and speed, and at a price point you’ll seriously struggle to conquer.
