Intro Bulk Email Marketing
If I asked you to name an email Marketing instrument, what would you say? Bulk Email Marketing
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like most online businesses now, email marketing continues to be Dominated by the same large players for the previous ten years. Which means they get encouraged very deeply and achieve a great deal of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the market, inducing long-time users to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done exactly that.
So today, in this review, I’ll be tearing MailerLite from limb To limb to see if it really stands its ground against the big boys…
…and, more importantly, whether youshould consider making the switch.

Like most email marketing providers Nowadays, You’ll Need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the program.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to finish your profile.
This includes information such as your organization name, website, Industry, address, business size, record size and even the kind of material you intend to send.
Then, You Have to verify your Site (or domain ).
This is still part of the approval process, and MailerLite will Simply inquire which email is related to this domain in order that they can email you a confirmation link.
Once you’ve completed those Steps, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite team will review your application, assess your Website, and determine whether you’re a good fit for their service.
(In other words, they’re making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)
As shown above, you’ll nevertheless be Able to utilize the software to make campaigns and perform with the features, but you will not be able to send anything before approved.
I was”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limit of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
But while these steps are not ideal for getting started, it Does help stop unscrupulous users from hurting everybody’s deliverability.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll rely upon automations to Deal with The majority of your email marketing.
(We’ll get to automations shortly, don’t worry.)
But whether it is a brand new blog post, podcast, or timely Announcement, there is always a reason to send a more instant email.
That is where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the brand new’Create Campaign’ will provide you several options.
– Regular effort: A traditional broadcast email.
– A/B split campaign: Multiple email Variations, including subject line, from name and, yes, even content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to readers who Don’t open your broadcast email, together with the choice of altering the subject line and email content.
– RSS effort: Produce a recurring campaign That sends new content to subscribers using your website’s RSS feed.
Aside from a few additional choices, most of these will follow The same step-by-step process of a normal effort.
So let’s walk you through it.
As Soon as You click to create your effort, you’ll be requested to Pick a favorite editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
You can switch to the Templates tab and choose from one of their pre-designed email templates — which will move you into the dragn’ drop editor by default.
At the time of writing, there are 21 email templates to select From which is a little on the low side, but the layouts are super contemporary.
And, of course, if you’d just Prefer to reuse a previous email, you can click the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this instance, I will choose the first template from the library.
The editor is easy to use, Which makes viewing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the blocks in the sidebar to include different Kinds of articles to your email, including videos, merchandise columns, and societal links.
After making your adjustments, simply click’Done Editing’ and you will Be carried to the recipients’ options where you can choose your classes or sections.
The tab also allows one To build segment-like rules , in the event your targeting isn’t quite perfect.
Finally, before sending, then you’ll get into the’Schedule’ screen.
This is where you control when your broadcast email should go Out, whether that’s instantly, at a set time/date, or in accordance with your subscribers time zones.
Impressive, right? Bulk Email Marketing
Handling Your Clients
Possessing granular control over your readers is arguably among The most important facets of any email marketing program now.
Because highly personalized efforts Are Essential if You’re looking to increase clicks, opens, and, above all, your own conversions.
And while most providers Permit You to”label” readers in order To target them more effectively, MailerLite utilizes a slightly different strategy.
When you start up your subscriber dash, you’ll see two Options; Segments and Groups.
Segments are essentially principles.
Your subscribers belong to a segment only when they fulfill the Specified principles, and are automatically added or removed accordingly.
Here’s what establishing a rule looks like:
Notice the way you can even blend Rules, in addition to another rule when the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The following tab is for groups, and despite the difference in title, These behave much like your normal”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the title to’Tags’, but ultimately decided against it)
Contrary to Segments, Groups are updated manually or through an Automation rule — that we’ll get into in a minute — and they have no value aside from what you actually call them.
As you Begin to use this stage, you’ll begin to understand At which Segments and Groups are generally used, however, MailerLite delivers a hand in case you’re unsure:
Fundamentally, groups are more of a Deliberate action on a per-subscriber foundation, whereas Segments permit you to bulge multiple subscribers together based on a common denominator.
Somewhat confusing, I’ll admit… but I feel it’s a fair trade-off For the additional flexibility. Besides, they’re optional.
Finally, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this region with their own areas, such as title, company, and nation.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do this by Clicking on the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they actually work?
You can either upload a CSV file of your readers together with Your custom field information in distinct columns… or can easily add these fields to your forms which will only apply to future subscribers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test area I made and added into a form:
I will not go too much to the form Things here since I have an entire section on this below, but this is the strategy I’d recommend if you wished to use this feature.
Again, as Soon as You’ve collected your custom field data from new Readers, you can pull them in to your email content and subject line.
Just click on the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Custom field.
I am barely scraping the surface Of what’s possible with custom fields, but it’s important to understand that this is a feature you can use.
Overall, it is reasonable to state MailerLite has their contributor Management and personalization features on stage. Bulk Email Marketing
If you’re not impressed by what you’ve seen so far, then maybe The page builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ in the forms page, you will be Able to select from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template choice Isn’t winning any awards, but it will offer a great foundation to work from if, for example the majority of us, you do not have that pure eye for design.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, though They finally do the identical task; accumulate an email address.
This time, the editor will Provide you 17 building blocks to Further construct or alter your landing page.
Now, I have used my fair share of Visual page builders, and this is already better than some dedicated solutions *cough* WPBakery.
Together with the basic building blocks, you can use elements like Hero segments, popup buttons, reviews and countdown timers.
No, it won’t be replacing landing Page builders like Thrive Architect or even LeadPagesanytime soon, but credit where credit due, this item over-delivers on all 3 form types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email marketing tools, MailerLite actually Provides a Adequate pair of type building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this same interface, so there’s a whole lot to cover here.
Let’s begin with your Bog-standard embedded form.
These forms are created inside MailerLite in order to get An embed code, which you can then place on your site to display it on particular pages.
Despite starting off super basic, the form designer lets you To personalize everything from the kind style, fields, background, name, input fields and, of course, the button.
Form text can also be edited directly, which Provides you a chance To visualize your backup in real time.
It would have been nice to have Some templates here, but as you know, there is more to a form than just its appearance.
Clicking the’Settings’ tab will Make It Possible for you to configure the way the Form works, such as adding extra fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There’s a GDPR compliance option. Sweet.)
And speaking of the success webpage…
…MailerLite also enables you to customize the default message, Which can replace the embedded kind also prevents users from redirecting.
Last but surely not least, you Can assess the way your form displays on mobile by shifting the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t Have the Ability to make any layout changes here, but it makes Sense to check, nevertheless.
So that’s an overview of this Embedded form but like I said before, you may even create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the Vast Majority of this setup Procedure is identical, there are A few differences I’d like to point out.
Unlike embedded forms, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most In depth choice, they do offer a fantastic base to work from and the editor is at least as easy to use with this form type.
Clicking the’E-commerce’ template requires me to a preview Before moving into the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are some new choices under form types This time around:
Contemplating paid tools such as Thrive Leads exist for both ribbons and slide-in forms, it’s pretty impressive to see this level of control over popup forms.
And, like before, you can perform the styling options to get it Matched up with your branding.
Finally, you can choose the close Behaviour of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is the X icon, but you can swap this out for A”No thanks” text option, or have both.
That is where most email Marketing platforms will render you, but MailerLite has yet another trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Data in the main dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click data, Subscriber growth, automation analytics, and kind signups.
Clicking into any effort will Give you specific reporting for that campaign.
This is where you’ll find some more advanced statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, reading environment, email client and more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average consumer…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, it is possible to click into different areas of this report for a more comprehensive breakdown.
You can find some real gems under These reports.
By Way of Example, the’View Email’ tab also displays a click map, so You can see your subscribers interacted with your emails in relation to one another.
Reports for automations will also be Accessible under the’Automations’ tab, though I found these to be less insightful than campaign reports.
Here’s a Fast example:
Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting interface, and many will get the available statistics more than enough to meet their needs.
What’s email marketing without a dashboard of automation?
For many reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could easily make or break this review.
The good news? If you have ever used a visual workflow builder, then You will instantly feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, The automations interface is easy, clean and simple to navigate — something that certainly can not be said for each and every email marketing program.
After setting your trigger, you can begin adding measures to your workflow.
These measures could be anything from sending an email, adding a Postpone, a bubble break, or an action, such as transferring a subscriber or updating their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I put together, where readers Are unsubscribed if they do not open my email within seven days.
There are countless Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations similar to this, and MailerLite ought to have no trouble with the huge majority of use cases.
Granted, it is not quite as Feature-rich as something such as ActiveCampaign since it lacks some of the conditional components. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.. )
For Instance, there’s now no automation for moving Subscribers directly into a different automation.
That being said, most of these activities can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into different groups that activate new automation workflows. It’s simply much less effective…. yet.
Another question of efficacy here is when creating new emails In the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email cube to The workflow, you will be asked to put in your subject line which then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking the’Design email’ button will automatically fire up the Editor:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered earlier in the review.
This time, but as Soon as You’ve created your email, clicking on the ‘Done editing’ button will direct you back to the automations workflow rather than the usual sending options.
Finally, your email will be Loaded into your automation.
A Wonderful touch here is having a thumbnail preview of your Email within your automation block, which means you can get an idea of what it contains at a glance.
While this process may seem like A grind on newspaper, it is actually much quicker than what I am used to with other email marketing tools — ActiveCampaign being a great example.
On the other hand, if you’ve come over from something such as ConvertKit where The editor is loaded within the automations builder, you’ll probably find that this downgrade in performance.
It’s fast enough for me, Personally, however I guess it is all relative.
Before I wrap up this section, there’s 1 Kind of automation You will not find in MailerLite, also that I think it’s important to highlight.
The ability to activate an automation (or step) based on the way Subscribers interact with the pages on your website.
This kind of behavioral targeting only isn’t accessible MailerLite at this time, so if it’s something you use or intend to utilize, you may want to skip this one. Bulk Email Marketing
The cost of MailerLite is undoubtedly one of the tools biggest Selling points, and let us face it, we all love a good bargain.
For starters, they offer an infinite free plan that includes All features (including premium) to get up to 1,000 subscribers.
While There’s some subtle Branding in your emails using this plan, it is still an wonderful option for those starting out.
And what about the premium programs?
It ends up, at around half the Cost of this competition generally, MailerLite is by far one of the least expensive options on the market. Plus, if you are willing to pay annually, you can also get an even greater discount.
In Reality, I have not been able to find anything that does the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is among those few email marketing tools to disrupt The (very crowded) sector in the last couple of decades, and that’s no simple feat.
While it is not as quickly as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it works exceptionally well at just about anything you can throw at it.
I find MailerLite strikes the perfect balance Between flexibility, speed and simplicity, and at a price point you will seriously struggle to beat.
Thinking about giving it a spin? Let us know how it works for you From the remarks. Bulk Email Marketing
