Background Define Email Marketing
If I asked you to name an email Marketing tool, what would you say? Define Email Marketing
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like many online businesses now, email marketing continues to be Dominated by the identical big players for the last ten years. Which means they get promoted very heavily and achieve a lot of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the marketplace, causing long-time customers to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done exactly that.

Like most email advertising providers these days, You’ll Need to Go through a review process before being able to correctly use the program.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to complete your profile.
This includes information such as your organization name, site, Industry, address, company size, list size and also the type of material you plan to send.
Then, You Have to verify your Website (or domain ).
This remains part of the approval process, and MailerLite will Simply inquire which email is associated to this domain so they can email you a confirmation link.
As Soon as You’ve completed those Measures, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite team will review your application, assess your Site, and ascertain whether you’re a fantastic fit for their services.
(In other words, they’re making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)
As revealed above, you’ll still be Able to utilize the software to make campaigns and perform with the features, but you will not have the ability to send anything until accepted.
I was”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limit of 500 subscribers.
Here Is What the email said:
But while these steps aren’t ideal for getting started, it Does help prevent unscrupulous users from damaging everybody’s deliverability.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll rely on automations to Deal with Nearly all your email marketing.
(We will get to automations soon, don’t worry.)
But whether it is a new blog article, podcast, or timely Announcement, there’s always a reason to send a more instant email.
That’s where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the new’Create Campaign’ will give you several choices.
– Regular effort: A traditional broadcast email.
– A/B split effort: Multiple email Variations, such as subject line, from name and, yes, even content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to subscribers who Do not open your broadcast email, with the choice of changing the subject line and email articles.
– RSS effort: Produce a recurring campaign That sends new content to readers using your website’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few additional options, most of these will follow Exactly the same step-by-step procedure of a normal effort.
So let’s walk you through it.
Once you click on to create your effort, you’ll be asked to Select a favorite editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
Otherwise, you can switch to the Templates tab and select from among the pre-designed email templates — which will move you to the dragn’ drop editor by default.
In the time of writing, there are 21 email templates to choose From which is a little on the low side, but the layouts are super contemporary.
And, of course, if you would just Like to reuse a previous email, you can click on the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this instance, I’ll select the first template in the library.
The editor is easy to use, Which makes customizing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the cubes in the sidebar to include distinct Types of content to your email, such as videos, product columns, and societal links.
After making your changes, just click’Done Editing’ and you will Be carried to the recipients’ options where you can choose your classes or sections.
The tab also allows one To build segment-like rules on-the-fly, in case your targeting isn’t quite perfect.
Finally, right before sending, then you’ll get to the’Schedule’ screen.
This is where you control if your broadcast email should go Out, whether that’s immediately, at a set time/date, or in accordance with your readers time zones.
Impressive, right? Define Email Marketing
Handling Your Subscribers
Possessing granular control over your subscribers is arguably one of The most important facets of any email marketing program today.
Because highly personalized campaigns Are Essential if You are looking to increase opens, clicks, and, most importantly, your own conversions.
And while many providers allow you to”tag” subscribers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite utilizes a slightly different approach.
When you start up your subscriber dash, you’ll see two Choices; Segments and Groups.
Segments are essentially rules.
Your readers belong to a section only when they meet the Specified rules, and will be automatically inserted or removed so.
Here’s what establishing a rule looks like:
Notice how you can even combine Rules, as well as another rule if the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The next tab is for groups, and despite the difference in title, These behave much like your normal”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the title to’Tags’, but ultimately decided against it.)
Unlike Segments, Groups are updated manually or through an Automation rule — which we’ll get into in a minute — and they have no value aside from what you call them.
As you Begin to use this stage, you’ll begin to understand At which Segments and Groups are typically used, however, MailerLite offers a hand in case you’re unsure:
Fundamentally, groups are much more of a Deliberate action on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments permit you to lump multiple subscribers collectively according to a common denominator.
A tad confusing, I will admit… but I feel it is a fair trade-off For the additional flexibility. In any case, they’re discretionary.
Finally, the’Fields’ tab is used to customize your email copy.
You will notice that MailerLite has Already populated this region with their own fields, such as name, business, and country.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do so by Clicking the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your readers together with Your custom field data in distinct columns… or may simply add these fields to your forms which will only apply to prospective subscribers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test area I made and added to a form:
I won’t go too much into the shape Stuff here since I have a whole section on this below, but this is the strategy I’d recommend if you wanted to use this feature.
Again, once you’ve gathered your custom field data from new Subscribers, you are able to pull them into your email content and subject line.
Just click the’Personalization’ drop down and select your Customized field.
I am barely scratching the surface Of what is possible with custom fields, but it is important to know that this is a feature you may use.
Overall, it’s reasonable to say MailerLite has their subscriber Management and personalization features on point. Define Email Marketing
If you are not impressed by what you have seen up to Now, then maybe The page builder will tickle your fancy.
After selecting’Landing Pages’ in the forms page, you’ll be Able to select from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template selection Isn’t winning any awards, but it does offer a fantastic base to work from if, for example most of us, you don’t have that pure eye for design.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, though They all ultimately do the same task; accumulate an email address.
This time, the editor will Provide you 17 building blocks to Further construct or alter your landing page.
Now, I have used my fair share of Visual site builders, and it is better than some dedicated solutions *cough* WPBakery.
Along with the basic building blocks, you can use elements like Hero sections, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
No, it will not be replacing landing Page builders such as Thrive Architect or even LeadPagesanytime shortly, but credit where credit due, this thing over-delivers on all 3 form types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email advertising tools, MailerLite actually offers a Adequate set of type building tools.
Also, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this exact same interface, so there’s a whole lot to cover here.
Let us start with your Bog-standard embedded form.
These forms are created inside MailerLite so as to get An embed code, which you can then place on your website to show it on specific pages.
Despite starting off super basic, the form designer lets you To personalize everything in the kind style, fields, background, name, input fields and, clearly, the button.
Form text may also be edited directly, which Provides you a Opportunity To envision your own copy in real time.
It would have been nice to have Some templates, but as you know, there is more to some form than simply its physical appearance.
Clicking the’Settings’ tab will Make It Possible for you to configure how the Form functions, including adding extra fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There is a GDPR compliance option. Sweet.)
And speaking of the success page…
…MailerLite also lets you customize the default message, That can replace the embedded form also prevents users .
Last but certainly not least, you Can check how your form screens on mobile by switching the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t be able to make any layout changes , but it makes Sense to test, nevertheless.
So that’s an overview of this Embedded form but as I said before, you can also create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the Vast Majority of this setup process is identical, you will find Still a few differences I’d love to point out.
Unlike embedded forms, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most In depth selection, they do offer a fantastic foundation to work from and the editor is at least as simple to use for this form kind.
Clicking the’E-commerce’ template takes me into a preview Before moving into the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are some new options under form types Now around:
Contemplating paid tools such as Thrive Leads exist for both ribbons and slide-in forms, it’s pretty impressive to see this level of control over popup forms.
And, like before, you can play with the styling options to get it Matched with your own branding.
Finally, you can Select the near Behavior of your form under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is the X icon, but you can swap this out for A”No thanks” text option, or have .
That is really where most email Marketing platforms will leave you, but MailerLite has one more trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Statistics in the dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from campaign open and click data, Subscriber growth, automation stats, and kind signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you special reporting for that campaign.
This is where you’ll find some statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, reading surroundings, email client and more.
This should be plenty of Information for the ordinary consumer…
…but if you really want To dig into the numbers, it is possible to click into individual areas of this report to get a more detailed breakdown.
You can find some real gems under These reports.
For example, the’View Mail’ tab also shows a click map, so You can see how your readers interacted with your emails compared to one another.
Reports for automations are also Accessible under the’Automations’ tab, though I found these to be less enlightening than effort reports.
Here’s a quick example:
Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting interface, and many will find the available data more than sufficient to meet their needs.
What is email marketing with no dash of automation?
For many reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could simply make or break this particular review.
The good news? If you have used a visual workflow builder, You will immediately feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, That the automations interface is easy, clean and simple to navigate — something which certainly can not be said for each and every email advertising software.
After setting your trigger, you can Start adding steps to your workflow.
These measures can be anything from sending an email, adding a Postpone, a bubble break, or an act, such as moving a contributor or updating their records.
Here’s a straightforward workflow I put together, where subscribers Are unsubscribed if they do not open my email within seven days.
There are countless Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite should not have any trouble with the huge majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign because it lacks some of the conditional elements. (Split, Go To, Goal, etc.. )
For Instance, there’s now no automation for transferring Readers directly into a different automation.
That being said, the Majority of these actions can Nevertheless Be achieved by moving Subscribers into various classes that trigger new automation workflows. It’s simply not as efficient…. yet.
Another question of efficacy here is when generating new mails From the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email cube to The workflow, you’ll be asked to put in your subject line which then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking the’Design email’ button will fire up the Editor:
Now, you’ll be temporarily Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered earlier in the review.
This time, however, once you’ve created your email, clicking the ‘Done editing’ button will direct you straight back to the automations workflow instead of the usual sending alternatives.
Ultimately, your email will probably be Loaded into your own automation.
A Wonderful touch here is using a thumbnail preview of your Email within your automation cube, which means you can get an idea about what it contains at a glimpse.
While this process may seem like A grind on newspaper, it is really much faster than what I’m used to with other email advertising tools — ActiveCampaign being a great example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something like ConvertKit where The editor is loaded within the automations builder, you will likely find this a downgrade in functionality.
It’s quick enough for me, Personally, but I guess it is all relative.
Before I wrap up this section, there is one Kind of automation You won’t find in MailerLite, also that I think it’s very important to highlight.
The ability to trigger an automation (or step) based on the way Readers interact with all the pages on your site.
This Sort of behavioral targeting just isn’t available in MailerLite at this time, so if it’s something you use or intend to use, you may want to skip this one. Define Email Marketing
The cost of MailerLite is among the tools biggest Selling points, and let’s face it, most of us love a fantastic deal.
For starters, they offer an infinite free plan that includes All features (including premium) to get as many as 1,000 subscribers.
While There’s some subtle Branding on your emails using this program, it’s still an wonderful alternative for those starting out.
And what about the premium plans?
It turns out, at approximately half of the Price of this competition generally, MailerLite is undoubtedly among the least expensive options on the market. Additionally, if you’re willing to pay annually, you are also able to get a much better discount.
In Reality, I have not been able to locate anything that does exactly the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is among the few email advertising tools to interrupt The (very crowded) sector in recent decades, and that’s no simple feat.
While it’s not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it works exceptionally well at virtually anything you can throw at it.
I find MailerLite strikes the best balance Between flexibility, speed and simplicity, and all at a price point you will seriously struggle to beat.
