Introduction Definition Email Marketing
When I asked you to name an email Marketing tool, what could you say? Definition Email Marketing
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like most online businesses now, email advertising has been Dominated by the identical big players for the last decade. Which means that they get promoted very heavily and achieve a lot of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the market, inducing long-time customers to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done precisely that.
So today, in this short article, I’ll be ripping MailerLite from limb To limb to see whether it stands its ground against the big boys…

Like most email marketing providers Nowadays, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to correctly use the software.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to complete your profile.
This includes information such as your company name, site, Industry, address, business size, record size and even the type of material you plan to send.
Then, You Have to verify your Website (or domain ).
This remains part of the approval process, and MailerLite will Simply inquire which email is associated to that domain so they could email you a verification link.
As Soon as You’ve completed these Steps, you ought to wait it out.
The MailerLite staff will review your application, check your Site, and ascertain whether you’re a fantastic match for their service.
(Quite simply, they are making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)
As revealed above, you’ll nevertheless be Able to utilize the software to create campaigns and perform with the attributes, but you won’t be able to send anything until accepted.
I had been”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limit of 500 subscribers.
Here Is What the email said:
However, while these measures aren’t ideal for getting started, it Does help stop malicious users from hurting everybody’s deliverability.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll rely upon automations to Deal with Nearly all your email marketing.
(We will get to automations shortly, don’t worry.)
But if it’s a new blog article, podcast, or timely Announcement, there’s always some excuse to send a more instant email.
That is where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the new’Produce Campaign’ will provide you several choices.
– Regular effort: A traditional broadcast email.
– A/B split campaign: Multiple email Versions, such as subject line, from title and, yes, even content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to readers who Don’t open your broadcast email, together with the choice of altering the subject line and email content.
– RSS campaign: Produce a recurring campaign That sends fresh content to readers using your website’s RSS feed.
Aside from a few additional options, the Majority of these will follow The exact same step-by-step process of a standard effort.
So let’s walk you through it.
Once you click on to create your campaign, you’ll be requested to Pick a favorite editor, whether that be the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
You can switch to the Templates tab and select from one of the pre-designed email templates — which will move you into the dragn’ drop editor by default.
At the time of writing, you’ll find 21 email templates to select From which is a little on the low side, but the layouts are super modern.
And, of course, if you’d just Prefer to reuse a previous email, you can click the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this instance, I’ll select the first template in the library.
The editor is easy to use, Which makes viewing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also utilize the cubes in the sidebar to include distinct Types of content to your email, such as videos, product columns, and social links.
After making your adjustments, just click’Done Editing’ and you’ll Be taken to the recipients’ choices where you are able to select your classes or segments.
The tab also allows one To develop segment-like rules on-the-fly, in case your targeting isn’t quite perfect.
Finally, before sending, then you’ll get to the’Schedule’ screen.
This is where you control when your broadcast email should go Out, if that is instantly, at a set time/date, or according to your subscribers time zones.
Impressive, right? Definition Email Marketing
Handling Your Subscribers
Possessing granular control over your readers is arguably one of The most important aspects of any email advertising program today.
Because highly personalized campaigns are necessary if You are searching to increase opens, clicks, and, above all, your conversions.
And while most providers Permit You to”tag” readers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite uses a slightly different approach.
When you open up your subscriber dashboard, you’ll notice two Options; Segments and Groups.
Segments are essentially rules.
Your subscribers belong to a segment only when they meet the Specified principles, and are automatically inserted or eliminated accordingly.
Here is what establishing a rule looks like:
Notice how you can even blend Rules, in addition to another rule if the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The next tab is for groups, and despite the difference in name, These act much like your usual”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the name to’Tags’, but ultimately decided against it)
Contrary to Segments, Groups are upgraded manually or through an Automation principle — that we’ll get to in a moment — and they don’t have any value besides what you actually call them.
As you start to use this platform, you’ll begin to understand At which Segments and Groups are generally used, however, MailerLite delivers a hand in the event you’re uncertain:
Basically, groups are much more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber foundation, whereas Segments permit you to lump multiple subscribers collectively according to a common denominator.
Somewhat confusing, I’ll admit… but I feel it is a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. In any case, they’re discretionary.
Finally, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You will notice that MailerLite has Already populated this area with their particular fields, such as name, company, and country.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do this by Clicking the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV file of your readers along with Your custom field data in distinct columns… or may easily add these fields to a forms which will only apply to prospective readers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test area I made and added into a form:
I will not go too much to the form Things here since I have an entire section on this below, but this is the strategy I would recommend if you wished to use this attribute.
Again, as Soon as You’ve collected your custom field information from new Subscribers, you can pull them into your email content and subject line.
Just click on the’Personalization’ drop down and select your Custom field.
I’m barely scratching the surface Of what’s possible with custom fields, but it is important to know this is a feature you may use.
Overall, it is reasonable to say MailerLite has their contributor Direction and personalization features on point. Definition Email Marketing
If you are not impressed with what you’ve seen up to Now, then maybe The page builder will tickle your fancy.
After selecting’Landing Pages’ in the forms page, you’ll be Able to pick from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template choice Is not winning any awards, but it will offer a great foundation to work from if, for example the majority people, you don’t have that pure eye for design.
I went ahead and selected the’Lead Generation’ template, however They all finally do the identical job; accumulate an email address.
This time, the editor will give you 17 building blocks to Further construct or alter your landing page.
Now, I’ve used my fair share of Visual page builders, and it is already better than a few dedicated alternatives *cough* WPBakery.
Together with the basic building blocks, you can use components like Hero segments, popup buttons, reviews and countdown timers.
No, it will not be replacing landing Page builders such as Thrive Architect or LeadPagesanytime shortly, but credit where credit due, this item over-delivers on all 3 form types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email marketing tools, MailerLite actually Provides a Decent pair of form building tools.
Also, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this exact same interface, so there is a lot to cover here.
Let us start with your Bog-standard embedded type.
These forms are created inside MailerLite so as to get An embed code, which you can then put on your site to show it on specific pages.
Despite beginning super fundamental, the form designer lets you To customize everything in the kind style, fields, background, title, input fields and, clearly, the button.
Form text can also be edited directly, which gives you a chance To envision your own backup in real-time.
It would have been nice to have Some templates here, but as you know, there’s more to a form than simply its physical appearance.
Clicking on the’Settings’ tab will Make It Possible for you to configure the way the Form works, including adding extra fields and setting a custom success page.
(There is even a GDPR compliance alternative. Sweet.)
And speaking of the success page…
…MailerLite also enables you to customize the default message, That will replace the embedded form also prevents users from redirecting.
Last but certainly not least, you Can check the way your form displays on mobile by shifting the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t be able to make any design changes here, but it makes Sense to test, nevertheless.
So that is an Summary of the Embedded form but as I said before, you can even create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the Vast Majority of this setup process is identical, you will find Still a few differences I’d love to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most In depth selection, they do offer a good foundation to work from and the editor is at least as easy to use with this form kind.
Clicking the’E-commerce’ template requires me to a preview Before moving to the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are a few new options under form types Now around:
Contemplating paid tools such as Thrive Leads exist for both ribbons and slide-in forms, it is pretty impressive to observe this level of control over popup forms.
And, as before, you can perform with the styling options to get it Matched with your branding.
Finally, you can choose the near Behaviour of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is the X icon, but you can swap this out for A”No thanks” text option, or have .
This is where most email Marketing platforms will leave you, but MailerLite has yet another trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your effort Statistics in the dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click data, Subscriber growth, automation stats, and kind signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you special reporting for that effort.
This is where you’ll discover a few statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, reading environment, email client and more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average consumer…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, it is possible to click into individual areas of the report to get a more comprehensive breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.
For example, the’View Mail’ tab also displays a click map, so It’s possible to see how your subscribers interacted with your emails compared to another.
Reports for automations will also be Accessible under the’Automations’ tab, even though I found these to be less enlightening than effort reports.
Here’s a Fast example:
Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting port, and many will get the available data more than sufficient to fulfill their needs.
What is email marketing without a dashboard of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could simply make or break this review.
The great news? If you have ever used a visual workflow builder, You’ll immediately feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, That the automations interface is easy, clean and easy to navigate — something that certainly can’t be said for every email advertising software.
After establishing your trigger, you can begin adding steps to your workflow.
These measures can be anything from sending an email, adding a Delay, a conditional split, or an act, like moving a contributor or updating their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I set together, where readers Are unsubscribed when they do not open my email within 7 days.
There are countless Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite should have no trouble with the huge majority of use cases.
Granted, it is not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign because it lacks some of the conditional elements. (Split, Go To, Goal, etc.. )
For Instance, there’s now no automation for moving Readers directly into a different automation.
That being said, the Majority of these activities can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into various groups that activate new automation workflows. It’s simply not as effective…. yet.
Another question of efficiency here is when creating new mails In the automation workflow builder.
After having an email cube to The workflow, you will be asked to put in your subject line that appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking on the’Design email’ button will automatically fire up the Editor:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the standard campaign creation wizard, which I covered previously in the review.
This time, however, as Soon as You’ve created your email, clicking on the ‘Done editing’ button will guide you straight back to the automations workflow instead of the usual sending alternatives.
Ultimately, your email will probably be Loaded into your automation.
A Wonderful touch here is using a thumbnail preview of your Email within your automation block, so you can find an idea of what it contains at a glimpse.
While this process may seem like A grind on newspaper, it is actually much faster than what I am used to with other email marketing tools — ActiveCampaign being a fantastic example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something such as ConvertKit where The editor is loaded inside the automations builder, so you’ll probably find this a downgrade in performance.
It is fast enough for me, Personally, however I guess it’s all relative.
Before I wrap up this segment, there is 1 Kind of automation You will not find in MailerLite, and I think that it’s important to highlight.
The ability to trigger an automation (or step) based on how Subscribers interact with the pages on your website.
This kind of behavioral targeting just is not available in MailerLite right now, so if it’s something you use or intend to utilize, you might want to skip this one. Definition Email Marketing
The cost of MailerLite is among the tools biggest Selling things, and let’s face it, we all love a fantastic bargain.
For starters, they offer an unlimited free plan that includes All attributes (including premium) to get as many as 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding in your mails using this program, it’s still an wonderful alternative for those starting out.
And what about the premium plans?
It ends up, at approximately half the Price of the competition generally, MailerLite is by far among the least expensive options on the market. Additionally, if you are ready to pay yearly, you can also get an even better discount.
In fact, I haven’t been able to locate anything that does exactly the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is among those email marketing tools The (very crowded) industry in recent decades, which is no easy feat.
While it is not as quickly as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it works exceptionally well at virtually anything you can throw at it.
Overall, I find MailerLite strikes the best balance Between flexibility, simplicity and speed, and at a price point you will seriously struggle to beat.
Thinking about giving it a twist? Let us know how it works for you In the remarks. Definition Email Marketing
