MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like many online businesses today, email advertising has been Dominated by the identical big players for the last ten years. Which means they get promoted very heavily and accomplish a lot of mindshare.

Like most email marketing providers Nowadays, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the software.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to complete your profile.
This includes information like your company name, site, Industry, address, business size, record size and even the type of material you plan to send.
Then, you need to confirm your Site (or domain name).
This is still part of this acceptance process, and MailerLite will Simply ask which email is related to this domain so they can email you a confirmation link.
As Soon as You’ve completed these Steps, you ought to wait it out.
The MailerLite team will review your application, assess your Site, and determine whether you are a fantastic match for their service.
(Quite simply, they’re making sure you’re not a spammer/scammer)
As revealed above, you’ll nevertheless be Able to utilize the software to create campaigns and play with the attributes, but you will not have the ability to send anything before accepted.
I had been”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limitation of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
But while these steps are not perfect for getting started, it Does help stop malicious users from hurting everybody’s deliverability.
If you are anything like me, you’ll rely upon automations to handle The majority of your email marketing.
(We’ll get to automations shortly, don’t worry.)
But whether it’s a new blog post, podcast, or timely Announcement, there’s always some excuse to send a more immediate email.
That’s where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the brand new’Produce Campaign’ will provide you several choices.
– Regular campaign: A Conventional broadcast email.
– A/B split effort: Multiple email Variations, including subject line, from title and, yes, even content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to readers who Don’t open your broadcast email, together with the choice of altering the subject line and email articles.
– RSS effort: Create a recurring campaign That sends new content to readers using your website’s RSS feed.
Aside from a few added choices, the Majority of these will follow The same step-by-step process of a standard campaign.
So let us walk you through it.
Once you click on to create your campaign, you’ll be requested to Select a preferred editor, whether that be the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
You can switch to the Templates tab and choose from among the pre-designed email templates — that will move you to the dragn’ drop editor by default.
At the time of writing, there are 21 email templates to select From which is a little on the low side, but the layouts are super modern.
And, of course, if you would just Like to reuse a previous email, you can click the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this example, I will select the first template from the library.
The editor is easy to use, Making viewing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the blocks in the sidebar to include distinct Types of articles to your email, such as videos, product columns, and social connections.
After making your adjustments, simply click’Done Editing’ and you will Be carried to the recipients’ choices where you are able to select your groups or segments.
The advanced tab also allows one To develop segment-like rules , in case your targeting is not quite right.
Finally, before sending, then you’ll get into the’Schedule’ screen.
This is where you control if your broadcast email should go Out, whether that’s immediately, at a set time/date, or in accordance with your readers time zones.
Impressive, right? Delivra
Managing Your Clients
Having granular control over your readers is arguably among The most important facets of any email marketing software now.
Because highly personalized efforts are necessary if You’re looking to increase opens, clicks, and, most importantly, your own conversions.
And while many providers Permit You to”tag” readers in order To target them more effectively, MailerLite uses a slightly different approach.
When you start up your subscriber dashboard, you’ll notice two Options; Segments and Groups.
Segments are essentially rules.
Your readers belong to a section only when they meet the Specified principles, and are automatically added or removed accordingly.
Here is what setting up a rule looks like:
Notice the way you can even blend Principles, as well as another rule when the first doesn’t exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The next tab is for groups, and despite the difference in name, These behave much like your usual”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the title to’Tags’, but ultimately decided against it.)
Contrary to Segments, Groups are upgraded manually or via an Automation principle — which we’ll get into in a minute — and they don’t have any value aside from what you call them.
As you start to use this platform, you’ll Start to understand At which Segments and Groups are typically used, but MailerLite offers a hand in case you’re uncertain:
Fundamentally, groups are more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber foundation, whereas Segments allow you to bulge multiple subscribers collectively based on a common denominator.
A tad confusing, I’ll admit… but I feel it is a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. Besides, they are optional.
Last, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You will notice that MailerLite has Already populated this area with their particular fields, such as name, company, and country.
If You Would like to create your own custom fields, you can do so by Clicking on the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they actually work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your subscribers along with Your custom field information in separate columns… or can easily add these fields to a forms which will only apply to prospective subscribers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test field I created and added into a form:
I will not go too much to the form Things here because I have a whole section on that below, but this is the strategy I’d recommend if you wanted to use this attribute.
Again, once you’ve collected your custom field information from new Readers, you are able to pull them into your email content and subject line.
Just click the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Customized field.
I am barely scraping the surface Of what’s possible with custom fields, but it’s important to understand that this is a feature you can use.
Overall, it’s reasonable to state MailerLite has their subscriber Direction and personalization features on stage. Delivra
If you’re not impressed by what you’ve seen so far, then maybe The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After selecting’Landing Pages’ from the forms page, then you’ll be Able to pick from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template choice Isn’t winning any awards, it will offer a great base to work from if, like most of us, you don’t have that pure eye for design.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, however They ultimately do the same task; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will Provide you 17 building blocks to Further build or change your landing page.
Now, I’ve used my fair share of Visual page builders, and it is already better than a few dedicated alternatives *Infection * WPBakery.
Along with the basic building blocks, you can use components like Hero segments, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
It will not be replacing landing Page builders such as Thrive Architect or LeadPagesanytime shortly, but credit where credit due, this thing over-delivers on all three kind types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email advertising tools, MailerLite actually offers a Decent pair of form building tools.
Also, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this same interface, so there’s a whole lot to cover .
Let us begin with your Bog-standard embedded form.
These forms are created inside MailerLite in order to get An embed code, which you can then place on your site to display it on particular pages.
Despite starting off super basic, the form designer lets you To personalize everything in the form style, fields, background, name, input fields and, clearly, the button.
Form text may also be edited directly, which gives you a chance To visualize your copy in real-time.
It would have been nice to have Some templates here, but as you know, there is more to some form than simply its appearance.
Clicking on the’Settings’ tab will allow you to configure the way the Form functions, including adding extra fields and setting a custom success page.
(There is a GDPR compliance option. Sweet.)
And talking of the success page…
…MailerLite also lets you customize the default message, That will replace the embedded form and prevents users .
Last but surely not least, you Can assess how your form screens on mobile by shifting the toggle to responsive mode.
You won’t be able to make any design changes here, but it makes Sense to test, nevertheless.
So that is an Summary of this Embedded form but like I said before, you may even create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the majority of this installation Procedure is identical, there are A few differences I’d like to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most In depth selection, they do offer a fantastic base to work from and the editor is at least as simple to use with this form type.
Clicking the’E-commerce’ template requires me into a preview Before moving into the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are a few new options under form types Now around:
Considering paid programs like Thrive Leads exist for ribbons and slide-in forms, it’s pretty impressive to observe this amount of control over popup types.
And, as before, you can play the styling options to get it Matched with your own branding.
Last, you can choose the close Behaviour of your form under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is that the X icon, but you can swap out this for A”No thanks” text choice, or have both.
This is where most email Marketing platforms will leave you, but MailerLite has one more trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like most tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Statistics in the main dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click data, Subscriber development, automation stats, and kind signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you special reporting for this campaign.
This is where you’ll discover some statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, reading surroundings, email client and more.
This should be plenty of Information for the ordinary user…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into individual areas of this report for a more comprehensive breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.
By Way of Example, the’View Email’ tab also displays a click map, so You can see your readers interacted with your emails compared to one another.
Reports for automations are Available under the’Automations’ tab, even although I found these to be less insightful than effort reports.
Here’s a Fast example:
Total, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting interface, and many will get the available data more than sufficient to fulfill their demands.
What’s email advertising without a dash of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could simply make or break this particular review.
The good news? If you’ve used a visual workflow builder, then You’ll immediately feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, The automations interface is simple, clean and simple to navigate — something which certainly can’t be said for every email advertising program.
After establishing your trigger, you can begin adding measures to your workflow.
These measures can be anything from sending an email, adding a Postpone, a bubble break, or an act, such as transferring a subscriber or updating their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I set together, where readers Are unsubscribed if they don’t open my email within seven days.
There are countless Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite ought to have no trouble with the vast majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign since it lacks some of the conditional components. (Split, Go To, Goal, etc.)
For example, there’s currently no automation for moving Readers directly into another automation.
That being said, most of these activities can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into different groups that trigger new automation workflows. It’s simply much less efficient…. yet.
Another question of efficiency here is when generating new mails In the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email block to The workflow, you’ll be asked to put in your topic line that then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking on the’Design email’ button will automatically fire up the Editor:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the standard campaign creation wizard, which I covered previously in the review.
This time, however, once you’ve created your email, clicking the ‘Done editing’ button will guide you straight back into the automations workflow rather than the usual sending options.
Ultimately, your email address will be Loaded into your automation.
A Wonderful touch here is having a thumbnail preview of your Email inside your automation cube, so you can find an idea about what it contains at a glance.
While this process may seem like A grind on newspaper, it is really much faster than what I am utilized to with other email advertising tools — ActiveCampaign being a great example.
On the other hand, if you’ve come over from something such as ConvertKit where The editor is loaded inside the automations builder, so you’ll likely find this a downgrade in performance.
It’s quick enough for me, Personally, however I guess it’s all relative.
Before I wrap up this segment, there’s 1 Kind of automation You won’t find in MailerLite, and that I think it’s very important to highlight.
The ability to trigger an automation (or measure ) based on the way Subscribers interact with the webpages on your site.
This kind of behavioral targeting only isn’t available in MailerLite right now, so if it’s something you use or intend to use, you may want to skip this one. Delivra
The cost of MailerLite is undoubtedly among those tools largest Selling points, and let’s face it, we all love a good bargain.
For starters, they offer an unlimited free plan that includes All attributes (including premium) for as many as 1,000 subscribers.
While There’s some subtle Branding on your emails using this program, it’s still an amazing option for anyone starting out.
And what about the top plans?
It turns out, at around half of the Cost of the rivalry generally, MailerLite is by far among the cheapest options on the industry. Additionally, if you’re ready to pay yearly, you are also able to get a much greater discount.
In fact, I haven’t been able to find anything that does the Exact Same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is one of the few marketing tools to disrupt The (very crowded) industry in recent decades, which is no simple feat.
While it’s not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it works exceptionally well at virtually anything you can throw at it.
Overall, I find MailerLite strikes the perfect balance Between flexibility, simplicity and speed, and all at a price point you will seriously struggle to beat.
Thinking of giving it a spin? Let us know how it works for you In the comments. Delivra
