Introduction Different Types Of Email Marketing
When I asked you to name an email Marketing instrument, what could you say? Different Types Of Email Marketing
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like most online industries now, email marketing continues to be Dominated by the identical big players for the previous ten years. Which means that they get encouraged very deeply and accomplish a great deal of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the marketplace, inducing long-time users to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done precisely that.
So today, in this short article, I’ll be ripping MailerLite from limb To limb to see if it really stands its own ground against the big boys…
…and, more importantly, whether youshould consider making the switch.

Like most email advertising providers Nowadays, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to correctly use the program.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to finish your profile.
This includes information like your organization name, site, Industry, address, company size, list size and also the type of content you plan to send.
Then, You Have to confirm your Site (or domain ).
This is still part of the acceptance process, and MailerLite will Simply ask which email is related to that domain so they can email you a verification link.
Once you’ve completed those Measures, you ought to wait it out.
The MailerLite staff will review your application, assess your Site, and determine whether you are a fantastic match for their service.
(In other words, they’re making sure you’re not a spammer/scammer)
As revealed above, you’ll still be Able to use the software to make campaigns and play with the attributes, but you will not have the ability to send anything until accepted.
I was”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limit of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
But while these steps are not ideal for getting started, it Does help prevent malicious users from damaging everyone else’s deliverability.
If you are anything like me, you’ll rely on automations to handle Nearly all your email advertising.
(We’ll get to automations shortly, don’t worry.)
But whether it is a new blog post, podcast, or timely Announcement, there is always a reason to send a more instant email.
That is where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the new’Create Campaign’ will provide you several options.
– Regular effort: A Conventional broadcast email.
– A/B split effort: Multiple email Variations, such as subject line, from title and, yes, even content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to subscribers who Do not open your broadcast email, with the option of altering the subject line and email content.
– RSS campaign: Create a recurring campaign That sends fresh content to readers using your site’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few additional options, the Majority of these will follow The exact same step-by-step process of a normal campaign.
So let us walk you through it.
Once you click to create your effort, you’ll be asked to Pick a favorite editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
Otherwise, you can switch to the Templates tab and select from one of the pre-designed email templates — which will move you to the dragn’ drop editor by default.
At the time of writing, you’ll find 21 email templates to choose From which is somewhat on the low side, but the designs are super modern.
And, of course, if you’d just Prefer to reuse a previous email, you can click the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this example, I’ll select the first template in the library.
The editor is easy to work with, Which makes viewing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the blocks in the sidebar to include distinct Types of content to your email, including videos, merchandise columns, and social links.
After making your adjustments, simply click’Done Editing’ and you’ll Be carried to the recipients’ options where you can select your classes or sections.
The advanced tab also allows you To develop segment-like rules on-the-fly, in the event your targeting isn’t quite perfect.
Finally, before sending, you’ll get to the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control when your broadcast email should go Out, if that’s instantly, at a set time/date, or according to your readers time zones.
Impressive, right? Different Types Of Email Marketing
Managing Your Clients
Having granular control over your readers is arguably among The most essential aspects of any email marketing program today.
Because highly personalized efforts Are Essential if You are searching to increase clicks, opens, and, above all, your own conversions.
And while most providers Permit You to”tag” subscribers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite uses a slightly different strategy.
When you start up your subscriber dash, you’ll see two Choices; Segments and Groups.
Segments are essentially rules.
Your subscribers belong to a segment only when they meet the Specified rules, and are automatically inserted or eliminated so.
Here’s what setting up a rule looks like:
Notice how you can also blend Principles, in addition to another rule if the first doesn’t exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The following tab is for groups, and also the difference in title, These behave much like your usual”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the title to’Tags’, but finally decided against it)
Unlike Segments, Groups are updated manually or through an Automation rule — that we’ll get to in a minute — and they don’t have any value besides what you call them.
As you start to use this stage, you’ll begin to understand Where Segments and Groups are typically used, however, MailerLite offers a hand in the event you’re unsure:
Fundamentally, groups are much more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber foundation, whereas Segments allow you to lump multiple contributors collectively based on a frequent denominator.
Somewhat confusing, I’ll admit… but I believe it is a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. Besides, they’re optional.
Last, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You will notice that MailerLite has Already populated this area with their own areas, such as title, company, and country.
If You Would like to create your own custom fields, you can do this by Clicking on the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they actually work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your readers together with Your custom field information in distinct columns… or may easily add these fields to a forms which will only apply to prospective subscribers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test area I made and added to a form:
I won’t go too much into the shape Stuff here because I have a whole section on that below, but this is the approach I’d recommend if you wished to use this attribute.
Again, once you’ve gathered your custom field information from fresh Subscribers, you are able to pull them in to your email content and subject line.
Just click on the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Customized field.
I am barely scraping the surface Of what’s possible with custom fields, but it’s important that you understand that this is a feature you can use.
Overall, it is reasonable to say MailerLite has their subscriber Management and personalization features on point. Different Types Of Email Marketing
If you are not impressed with what you have seen so far, then maybe The page builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ in the forms page, you will be Able to pick from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template choice Isn’t winning any awards, it will offer a great foundation to work from if, for example most of us, you don’t have that natural eye for layout.
I went ahead and selected the’Lead Generation’ template, though They finally do the identical task; accumulate an email address.
This time, the editor will give you 17 building blocks to Further construct or alter your landing page.
Now, I’ve used my fair share of Visual page builders, and it is better than some dedicated solutions *cough* WPBakery.
Along with the fundamental building blocks, you can use elements like Hero segments, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
No, it will not be replacing landing Page builders such as Thrive Architect or LeadPagesanytime soon, but credit where credit due, this item over-delivers on all 3 form types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email advertising tools, MailerLite really offers a Adequate pair of form building tools.
Also, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this same interface, so there’s a lot to cover here.
Let us begin with your Bog-standard embedded type.
These forms are first created inside MailerLite in order to get An embed code, which you can then put on your site to display it on specific pages.
Despite starting off super basic, the form designer lets you To customize everything from the form style, subjects, background, title, enter fields and, of course, the button.
Form text may also be edited directly, which Provides you a Opportunity To visualize your copy in real-time.
It would’ve been nice to have Some templates here, but as you know, there is more to some form than just its physical appearance.
Clicking the’Settings’ tab will Make It Possible for you to configure how the Form functions, such as adding additional fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There’s even a GDPR compliance alternative. Sweet.)
And speaking of the success page…
…MailerLite also lets you customize the default message, Which can replace the embedded form also prevents users .
Last but surely not least, you Can check the way your form screens on cellular by shifting the toggle to responsive mode.
You won’t be able to make any design changes , but it makes Sense to check, nevertheless.
So that is an Summary of this Embedded form but like I said before, you may also create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the majority of this installation Procedure is identical, you will find Still a few differences I’d love to point out.
Unlike embedded forms, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most Comprehensive selection, they do provide a fantastic foundation to work from and the editor is just as easy to use for this form type.
Clicking on the’E-commerce’ template takes me to a preview Before moving to the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are a few new choices under form types This time around:
Considering paid tools such as Thrive Leads exist for ribbons and slide-in forms, it’s pretty impressive to see this level of control over popup forms.
And, as before, you can play with the styling options to get it Matched up with your own branding.
Last, you can choose the near Behavior of your form under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is the X icon, but you can swap out this for A”No thanks” text choice, or have both.
This is where most email Marketing platforms would render you, but MailerLite has yet another trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Data in the dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from campaign open and click data, Subscriber development, automation stats, and kind signups.
Clicking into any effort will Give you special coverage for that campaign.
This is where you’ll discover some more advanced statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying environment, email client and more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average user…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into different areas of the report for a more comprehensive breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.
By Way of Example, the’View Email’ tab also shows a click map, so You can see your readers interacted with your emails in relation to one another.
Reports for automations are also Available under the’Automations’ tab, although I found to be less enlightening than campaign reports.
Here’s a Fast example:
Total, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting port, and many will find the available data more than enough to fulfill their demands.
What’s email advertising without a dash of automation?
For many reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could simply make or break this particular review.
The great news? If you have ever used a visual workflow builder, then You’ll immediately feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, The automations interface is easy, clean and easy to navigate — something which certainly can not be said for each and every email marketing program.
After establishing your trigger, you can begin adding steps to your workflow.
These steps could be anything from sending an email, adding a Delay, a conditional split, or an act, such as transferring a subscriber or updating their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I put together, where subscribers Are unsubscribed when they do not open my email within 7 days.
There are innumerable Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite should not have any trouble with the huge majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign since it lacks some of the conditional components. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.. )
For example, there’s now no automation for moving Subscribers directly into another automation.
That being said, the Majority of these activities can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into various classes that trigger new automation workflows. It’s just much less effective…. yet.
Another matter of efficacy here is when creating new mails In the automation workflow builder.
After having an email block to The workflow, you will be asked to put in your topic line which appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking the’Design email’ button will fire up the Editor:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered earlier in the critique.
This time, however, once you’ve created your email, clicking the ‘Done editing’ button will direct you straight back into the automations workflow instead of the usual sending alternatives.
Finally, your email will be Loaded into your own automation.
A Wonderful touch here is using a thumbnail preview of your Email inside your automation block, which means you can get an idea of what it contains at a glance.
While this procedure may seem like A grind on newspaper, it’s actually much faster than what I am used to with other email advertising tools — ActiveCampaign being a fantastic example.
On the other hand, if you’ve come over from something such as ConvertKit where The editor is loaded inside the automations builder, so you will likely find that this downgrade in performance.
It’s quick enough for me, Personally, however I guess it is all relative.
Before I wrap up this segment, there is 1 type of automation You will not find in MailerLite, and I think it’s important to highlight.
The ability to activate an automation (or measure ) based on how Subscribers interact with all the webpages on your site.
This Sort of behavioral targeting only is not accessible MailerLite right now, so if it’s something you use or plan to use, you may want to skip this one. Different Types Of Email Marketing
The Price of MailerLite is among those tools biggest Selling points, and let’s face it, most of us love a fantastic bargain.
For starters, they offer an unlimited free plan that includes All features (including premium) to get up to 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding in your emails using this program, it’s still an wonderful option for anyone starting out.
And what about the top plans?
It turns out, at approximately half of the Cost of this competition generally, MailerLite is undoubtedly one of the least expensive options on the industry. Additionally, if you’re ready to pay annually, you are also able to get a much better discount.
In Reality, I have not been able to locate anything that does exactly the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is among those email advertising tools to disrupt The (very crowded) industry in recent years, and that’s no simple feat.
While it is not as quickly as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it works exceptionally well at virtually anything you can throw at it.
I find MailerLite strikes the best balance Between flexibility, simplicity and speed, and at a price point you will seriously struggle to beat.
