Intro Elite Email
When I asked you to name an email Marketing tool, what could you say? Elite Email
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like many online businesses today, email marketing has been Dominated by the same large players for the previous ten years. Which means they get encouraged very deeply and accomplish a lot of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the marketplace, causing long-time users to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done exactly that.
So today, in this review, I will be ripping MailerLite from limb To limb to find out if it stands its ground against the big boys…
…and, more importantly, whether youshould consider making the switch.

Like most email marketing providers Nowadays, You’ll Need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the program.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to finish your profile.
This includes information like your organization name, site, Industry, address, business size, record size and even the type of content you intend to send.
Then, You Have to confirm your Website (or domain ).
This remains part of the approval process, and MailerLite will Simply ask which email is associated to that domain so they could email you a verification link.
As Soon as You’ve completed those Measures, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite team will review your application, assess your Site, and determine whether you are a fantastic match for their services.
(Quite simply, they are making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)
As shown above, you’ll still be Able to utilize the software to make campaigns and play with the features, but you won’t have the ability to send anything before approved.
I had been”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limitation of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
However, while these measures aren’t perfect for getting started, it Does help stop malicious users from damaging everyone else’s deliverability.
If you are anything like me, you’ll rely on automations to handle The majority of your email marketing.
(We’ll get to automations soon, do not worry.)
But if it is a brand new blog article, podcast, or timely Announcement, there is always a reason to send a more instant email.
That is where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the brand new’Produce Campaign’ will provide you several options.
– Regular campaign: A traditional broadcast email.
– A/B split campaign: Multiple email Versions, including subject line, from name and, yes, even content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to subscribers who Do not open your broadcast email, together with the option of altering the subject line and email articles.
– RSS effort: Produce a recurring campaign That sends new content to subscribers using your website’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few added choices, the Majority of these will follow The same step-by-step procedure of a normal campaign.
So let’s walk you through it.
Once you click on to create your effort, you’ll be asked to Pick a favorite editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
Otherwise, you can switch to the Templates tab and select from among their pre-designed email templates — which will move you to the dragn’ drop editor by default.
At the time of writing, you’ll find 21 email templates to choose From which is somewhat on the low side, however, the designs are super contemporary.
And, of course, if you’d just Prefer to reuse a previous email, you can click on the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this example, I will choose the first template in the library.
The editor is easy to use, Making customizing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the blocks in the sidebar to add distinct Kinds of content to your email, such as videos, merchandise columns, and societal links.
After making your changes, just click’Done Editing’ and you will Be carried to the recipients’ choices where you can choose your groups or sections.
The tab also allows you To develop segment-like rules on-the-fly, in case your targeting is not quite right.
Finally, before sending, then you’ll get into the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control if your broadcast email should go Out, whether that’s instantly, at a set time/date, or in accordance with your readers time zones.
Impressive, right? Elite Email
Handling Your Clients
Possessing granular control over your readers is arguably among The most important facets of any email advertising software today.
Because highly personalized campaigns Are Essential if You are looking to increase clicks, opens, and, above all, your own conversions.
And while many providers Permit You to”label” readers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite uses a slightly different strategy.
When you start up your subscriber dash, you’ll notice two Options; Segments and Groups.
Segments are essentially rules.
Your subscribers belong to a segment only when they meet the Specified rules, and are automatically added or eliminated accordingly.
Here’s what establishing a rule looks like:
Notice the way you can even blend Principles, in addition to an alternate rule when the first doesn’t exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The next tab is for classes, and despite the difference in name, These act much like your usual”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the name to’Tags’, but finally decided against it)
Unlike Segments, Groups are upgraded manually or via an Automation rule — which we will get to in a moment — and they have no value besides what you call them.
As you Begin to use this stage, you’ll Start to understand At which Segments and Groups are generally used, but MailerLite delivers a hand in the event you’re uncertain:
Basically, groups are much more of a Deliberate action on a per-subscriber foundation, whereas Segments permit you to bulge multiple subscribers collectively based on a common denominator.
Somewhat confusing, I will admit… but I believe it’s a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. Besides, they are discretionary.
Last, the’Fields’ tab is used to customize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this area with their particular areas, such as title, company, and nation.
If You Would like to create your own custom fields, you can do this by Clicking on the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your readers together with Your custom field data in separate columns… or may easily add these fields to your forms which will only apply to prospective readers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test field I made and added into a form:
I won’t go too much into the form Stuff here since I have an entire section on that below, but this is the approach I would recommend if you wanted to use this feature.
Again, once you’ve collected your custom field information from new Subscribers, you are able to pull them into your email content and subject line.
Just click on the’Personalization’ drop down and select your Custom field.
I’m barely scratching the surface Of what is possible with custom fields, but it is important to understand this is a feature you can use.
Overall, it’s fair to say MailerLite has their subscriber Management and personalization features on point. Elite Email
If you are not impressed with what you’ve seen up to Now, then perhaps The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After selecting’Landing Pages’ from the forms page, you’ll be Able to pick from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template selection Is not winning any awards, it does offer a fantastic foundation to work from if, like the majority of us, you don’t have that pure eye for design.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, however They all ultimately do the identical task; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will give you 17 building blocks to Further build or alter your landing page.
Now, I have used my fair share of Visual page builders, and this is better than some dedicated alternatives *cough* WPBakery.
Together with the basic building blocks, you can use components like Hero segments, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
It will not be replacing landing Page builders like Thrive Architect or LeadPagesanytime shortly, but credit where credit due, this item over-delivers on all 3 kind types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email marketing tools, MailerLite actually Provides a Adequate set of form building tools.
Also, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this same interface, so there is a lot to cover .
Let’s begin with your Bog-standard embedded type.
These forms are first created inside MailerLite so as to get An embed code, which you can then put on your site to display it on specific pages.
Despite beginning super basic, the form designer allows you To customize everything from the form style, subjects, background, title, enter fields and, of course, the button.
Form text can also be edited directly, which Provides you a Opportunity To envision your own copy in real time.
It would’ve been nice to have Some templates, but as you know, there is more to a form than simply its appearance.
Clicking the’Settings’ tab will Make It Possible for you to configure how the Form works, including adding extra fields and setting a custom success page.
(There’s even a GDPR compliance alternative. Sweet.)
And speaking of the success webpage…
…MailerLite also lets you customize the default message, Which will replace the embedded kind also prevents users .
Last but certainly not least, you Can assess the way your form screens on cellular by shifting the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t Have the Ability to make any design changes , but it makes Sense to test, nevertheless.
So that is an overview of this Embedded form but like I said before, you can also create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the Vast Majority of this setup process is identical, you will find A few differences I’d love to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most Comprehensive selection, they do provide a good foundation to work from and the editor is just as simple to use with this form type.
Clicking on the’E-commerce’ template takes me into a preview Before moving into the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are some new choices under form types This time around:
Considering paid tools like Thrive Leads exist for both ribbons and slide-in forms, it is pretty impressive to see this amount of control over popup forms.
And, like before, you can play the styling options to get it Matched with your own branding.
Last, you can Select the close Behaviour of your form under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is that the X icon, but you can swap this out for A”No thanks” text option, or have .
That is really where most email Marketing platforms would leave you, but MailerLite has yet another trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Data in the main dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click data, Subscriber development, automation stats, and form signups.
Clicking into any effort will Give you specific reporting for that campaign.
This is where you’ll discover some more advanced statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, reading environment, email client and more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average user…
…but if you really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into different areas of the report for a more comprehensive breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.
By Way of Example, the’View Email’ tab also shows a click map, so It’s possible to see your subscribers interacted to another.
Reports for automations are Accessible under the’Automations’ tab, even though I found these to be less insightful than campaign reports.
Here’s a quick example:
Total, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting port, and many will find the available data more than sufficient to meet their demands.
What’s email advertising without a dashboard of automation?
For many reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could simply make or break this review.
The great news? If you’ve used a visual workflow builder, You’ll immediately feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, That the automations interface is easy, clean and simple to navigate — something that certainly can’t be said for each and every email advertising program.
After setting your trigger, you can Start adding measures to your workflow.
These steps could be anything from sending an email, including a Postpone, a conditional split, or an act, such as moving a contributor or updating their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I put together, where readers Are unsubscribed if they don’t open my email within 7 days.
There are countless Possibilities in regards to workflow automations similar to this, and MailerLite should have no trouble with the huge majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign since it lacks some of the conditional components. (Split, Go To, Goal, etc.)
For example, there’s currently no automation for transferring Readers directly into another automation.
That being said, most of these activities can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into different classes that activate new automation workflows. It’s just not as efficient…. yet.
Another matter of efficacy here is when creating new mails From the automation workflow builder.
After having an email block to The workflow, you will be asked to add your subject line that then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking on the’Design email’ button will fire up the Writer:
Now, you’ll be temporarily Redirected to the standard campaign creation wizard, which I covered earlier in the critique.
This time, however, once you’ve created your email, clicking on the ‘Done editing’ button will guide you back to the automations workflow instead of the usual sending options.
Finally, your email will be Loaded into your automation.
A nice touch here is having a thumbnail preview of your Email inside your automation block, which means you can find an idea about what it contains at a glimpse.
While this process may seem like A grind on newspaper, it is actually much quicker than what I’m utilized to with other email advertising tools — ActiveCampaign being a great example.
On the other hand, if you’ve come over from something like ConvertKit where The editor is loaded inside the automations builder, you’ll likely find that this downgrade in performance.
It’s quick enough for me, Personally, however I guess it’s all relative.
Before I wrap up this segment, there’s one type of automation You will not find in MailerLite, also that I think it’s important to highlight.
The ability to activate an automation (or measure ) based on how Readers interact with the webpages on your site.
This Sort of behavioral targeting just is not accessible MailerLite right now, so if it’s something you use or plan to utilize, you might want to skip this one. Elite Email
The cost of MailerLite is no doubt among those tools largest Selling things, and let us face it, we all love a good deal.
For starters, they offer an infinite free plan that includes All attributes (including premium) to get up to 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding on your emails using this program, it is still an amazing alternative for anyone starting out.
And what about the premium programs?
It ends up, at approximately half the Price of the competition on average, MailerLite is by far among the cheapest options available on the market. Additionally, if you are willing to pay yearly, you are also able to get an even better discount.
In Reality, I have not been able to locate anything that does exactly the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is one of those very few email advertising tools to interrupt The (very crowded) sector in the last couple of decades, which is no simple feat.
While it is not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it performs exceptionally well at virtually anything you can throw at it.
I find MailerLite strikes the perfect balance Between flexibility, simplicity and speed, and all at a price point you’ll seriously struggle to conquer.
Thinking of giving it a spin? Let us know how it works for you From the comments. Elite Email
