Introduction Email Blast Marketing
When I asked you to name an email Marketing instrument, what would you say? Email Blast Marketing
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like many online businesses now, email marketing has been Dominated by the same large players for the previous ten years. Which means that they get encouraged very deeply and accomplish a lot of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the market, inducing long-time users to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done exactly that.
So today, in this review, I will be tearing MailerLite from limb To limb to see whether it stands its ground against the big boys…

Like most email marketing providers Nowadays, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the software.
When you first register, you’ll be asked to complete your profile.
This includes information such as your organization name, website, Business, address, company size, record size and also the kind of content you plan to send.
Then, You Have to confirm your Site (or domain ).
This remains part of the acceptance process, and MailerLite will Simply inquire which email is related to this domain in order that they can email you a confirmation link.
As Soon as You’ve completed these Measures, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite team will review your application, check your Website, and determine whether you are a good match for their service.
(Quite simply, they’re making sure you’re not a spammer/scammer)
As revealed above, you’ll nevertheless be Able to utilize the software to create campaigns and play with the features, but you will not have the ability to send anything until approved.
I was”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limit of 500 subscribers.
Here Is What the email said:
But while these measures are not ideal for getting started, it Does help stop unscrupulous users from damaging everyone else’s deliverability.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll rely on automations to handle Nearly all your email marketing.
(We will get to automations soon, don’t worry.)
But whether it’s a new blog post, podcast, or timely Announcement, there’s always a reason to send a more immediate email.
That is where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the new’Produce Campaign’ will provide you several choices.
– Regular effort: A Conventional broadcast email.
– A/B split effort: Multiple email Variations, such as subject line, from title and, yes, even email content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to subscribers who Don’t open your broadcast email, together with the choice of changing the subject line and email articles.
– RSS campaign: Create a recurring campaign That sends new content to readers using your site’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few additional options, most of these will follow The exact same step-by-step procedure of a normal campaign.
So let’s walk you through it.
As Soon as You click on to create your effort, you’ll be requested to Pick a preferred editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
Otherwise, you can switch to the Templates tab and select from among their pre-designed email templates — which will move you into the dragn’ drop editor by default.
At the time of writing, there are 21 email templates to choose From which is a little on the low side, but the layouts are super modern.
And, of course, if you would just Like to reuse a previous email, you can click on the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this example, I’ll choose the first template in the library.
The editor is easy to work with, Making viewing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also utilize the cubes in the sidebar to include distinct Kinds of content to your email, including videos, merchandise columns, and societal connections.
After making your changes, just click’Done Editing’ and you’ll Be taken to the recipients’ options where you are able to choose your classes or segments.
The advanced tab also allows one To build segment-like rules , in case your targeting is not quite perfect.
Finally, right before sending, you’ll get to the’Schedule’ screen.
This is where you control when your broadcast email should go Out, if that is immediately, at a set time/date, or according to your readers time zones.
Impressive, right? Email Blast Marketing
Managing Your Subscribers
Having granular control over your subscribers is arguably among The most essential aspects of any email advertising program today.
Because highly personalized campaigns Are Essential if You are looking to increase clicks, opens, and, most importantly, your conversions.
And while many providers allow you to”label” subscribers in order To target them more effectively, MailerLite utilizes a slightly different strategy.
When you open up your subscriber dashboard, you’ll notice two Choices; Segments and Groups.
Segments are basically principles.
Your subscribers belong to a section only when they fulfill the Specified rules, and will be automatically inserted or removed accordingly.
Here’s what establishing a rule looks like:
Notice how you can also blend Rules, as well as an alternate rule if the first doesn’t exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The next tab is for groups, and also the difference in title, These act much like your normal”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the title to’Tags’, but finally decided against it)
Unlike Segments, Groups are updated manually or via an Automation principle — that we’ll get into in a minute — and they don’t have any value aside from what you actually call them.
As you Begin to use this stage, you’ll Start to understand Where Segments and Groups are typically used, however, MailerLite delivers a hand in the event you’re uncertain:
Basically, groups are more of a Deliberate action on a per-subscriber foundation, whereas Segments allow you to lump multiple subscribers together based on a frequent denominator.
Somewhat confusing, I will admit… but I feel it’s a fair trade-off For the additional flexibility. Besides, they are optional.
Finally, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this region with their particular areas, such as title, business, and country.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do so by Clicking the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they actually work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your readers together with Your custom field data in separate columns… or can simply add these fields to a forms which will only apply to prospective subscribers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test area I made and added into a form:
I won’t go too much to the form Stuff here because I have an entire section on this below, but this is the approach I’d recommend if you wanted to use this feature.
Again, once you’ve gathered your custom field data from fresh Readers, you are able to pull them into your email content and subject line.
Just click the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Custom field.
I’m barely scratching the surface Of what is possible with custom fields, but it’s important to know this is a feature you can use.
Overall, it’s fair to say MailerLite has their contributor Direction and personalization features on point. Email Blast Marketing
If you’re not impressed by what you have seen up to Now, then perhaps The page builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ in the forms page, you’ll be Able to select from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template selection Isn’t winning any awards, but it will offer a great foundation to work from if, like the majority people, you do not have that pure eye for design.
I went ahead and selected the’Lead Generation’ template, however They ultimately do the same task; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will Provide you 17 building blocks to Further construct or alter your landing page.
Now, I have used my fair share of Visual page builders, and it is already better than some dedicated alternatives *cough* WPBakery.
Together with the fundamental building blocks, you can use elements like Hero segments, popup buttons, reviews and countdown timers.
No, it will not be replacing landing Page builders like Thrive Architect or even LeadPagesanytime shortly, but credit where credit due, this thing over-delivers on all 3 kind types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email marketing tools, MailerLite actually offers a Decent set of form building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this same interface, so there is a whole lot to cover here.
Let’s start with your Bog-standard embedded form.
These forms are created inside MailerLite so as to get An embed code, which you can then place on your site to display it on particular pages.
Despite starting off super basic, the form designer allows you To personalize everything in the kind style, fields, background, title, enter fields and, clearly, the button.
Form text may also be edited directly, which Provides you a Opportunity To envision your own copy in real time.
It would have been nice to have Some templates here, but as you know, there is more to some form than just its appearance.
Clicking the’Settings’ tab will allow you to configure the way the Form functions, including adding extra fields and setting a custom success page.
(There is even a GDPR compliance alternative. Sweet.)
And talking of the success webpage…
…MailerLite also enables you to customize the default message, That will replace the embedded form also prevents users from redirecting.
Last but certainly not least, you Can assess the way your form displays on mobile by switching the toggle to responsive mode.
You won’t be able to make any design changes , but it makes Sense to check, nevertheless.
So that is an overview of the Embedded form but like I said before, you can even create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the Vast Majority of this installation Procedure is identical, there are A few differences I’d like to point out.
Unlike embedded forms, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most Comprehensive selection, they do provide a fantastic foundation to work from and the editor is just as simple to use with this form kind.
Clicking the’E-commerce’ template takes me to a preview Before moving to the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are some new choices under form types Now around:
Contemplating paid tools such as Thrive Leads exist for both ribbons and slide-in forms, it is pretty impressive to see this amount of control over popup forms.
And, as before, you can play the styling options to get it Matched with your own branding.
Finally, you can Select the close Behaviour of your form under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is the X icon, but you can swap this out for A”No thanks” text option, or have .
This is where most email Marketing platforms would leave you, but MailerLite has one more trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your effort Data in the dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click data, Subscriber growth, automation stats, and form signups.
Clicking into any effort will Give you special coverage for this campaign.
This is where you’ll find a few statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, reading environment, email client and much more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average user…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, it is possible to click into individual areas of this report to get a more comprehensive breakdown.
You can find some real gems under These reports.
By Way of Example, the’View Email’ tab also displays a click map, so You can see precisely how your readers interacted to one another.
Reports for automations are also Available under the’Automations’ tab, although I found these to be less enlightening than campaign reports.
Here’s a quick example:
Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting interface, and many will get the available data more than enough to meet their needs.
What’s email marketing without a dash of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could simply make or break this particular review.
The good news? If you’ve used a visual workflow builder, then You will immediately feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, That the automations interface is easy, clean and simple to navigate — something which certainly can not be said for every email marketing software.
After setting your trigger, you can begin adding steps to your workflow.
These steps could be anything from sending an email, adding a Postpone, a bubble break, or an act, such as transferring a subscriber or updating their records.
Here’s a straightforward workflow I set together, where subscribers Are unsubscribed if they don’t open my email within 7 days.
There are countless Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations similar to this, and MailerLite ought to have no trouble with the vast majority of use cases.
Granted, it is not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign because it lacks some of the conditional elements. (Split, Go To, Goal, etc.. )
For Instance, there’s now no automation for transferring Subscribers directly into another automation.
That being said, the Majority of these activities can Nevertheless Be achieved by moving Subscribers into various groups that activate new automation workflows. It is just not as effective…. yet.
Another question of efficacy here is when creating new emails From the automation workflow builder.
After having an email block to The workflow, you will be asked to put in your topic line that appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking on the’Design email’ button will automatically fire up the Editor:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the standard campaign creation wizard, which I covered previously in the critique.
This time, but as Soon as You’ve established your email, clicking the ‘Done editing’ button will guide you back to the automations workflow instead of the usual sending options.
Finally, your email address will probably be Loaded into your own automation.
A nice touch here is using a thumbnail preview of your Email within your automation block, which means it’s possible to find an idea of what it contains at a glimpse.
While this process may seem like A grind on paper, it’s actually much faster than what I’m used to with other email advertising tools — ActiveCampaign being a fantastic example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something such as ConvertKit where The editor is loaded within the automations builder, you will likely find that this downgrade in functionality.
It is fast enough for me, Personally, but I guess it is all relative.
Before I wrap up this segment, there is one Kind of automation You will not find in MailerLite, also I think that it’s important to highlight.
The ability to activate an automation (or step) based on how Subscribers interact with the pages on your website.
This kind of behavioral targeting only isn’t available in MailerLite at this time, so if it’s something you use or plan to utilize, you might want to skip this one. Email Blast Marketing
The cost of MailerLite is undoubtedly one of those tools largest Selling things, and let’s face it, we all love a good deal.
For starters, they offer an unlimited free plan that includes All features (including premium) to get up to 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding in your mails using this program, it is still an amazing option for anyone starting out.
And what about the top programs?
It turns out, at around half the Price of the competition on average, MailerLite is undoubtedly one of the least expensive options on the market. Plus, if you are ready to pay yearly, you can also get an even better discount.
In fact, I have not been able to locate anything that does the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is among the email marketing tools The (very crowded) industry in recent years, which is no easy feat.
While it’s not as quickly as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it performs exceptionally well at just about anything you can throw at it.
All in all, I find MailerLite strikes the best balance Between flexibility, speed and simplicity, and all at a price point you will seriously struggle to conquer.
