Introduction Email Lite
If I asked you to name an email Marketing tool, what could you say? Email Lite
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like many online industries today, email marketing continues to be Dominated by the same large players for the previous ten years. Which means that they get encouraged very deeply and achieve a great deal of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the marketplace, causing long-time users to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done precisely that.
So now, in this short article, I’ll be tearing MailerLite from limb To limb to find out if it stands its own ground against the big boys…

Like most email marketing providers Nowadays, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to correctly use the program.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to complete your profile.
This includes information such as your organization name, website, Business, address, company size, list size and also the type of content you plan to send.
Then, You Have to verify your Site (or domain name).
This remains part of the approval process, and MailerLite will Simply inquire which email is associated to this domain in order that they can email you a confirmation link.
Once you’ve completed these Steps, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite staff will review your application, assess your Website, and determine whether you’re a good fit for their services.
(Quite simply, they are making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)
As revealed above, you’ll still be Able to use the software to create campaigns and perform with the features, but you won’t have the ability to send anything before approved.
I had been”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limit of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
However, while these measures aren’t perfect for getting started, it Does help stop malicious users from hurting everybody’s deliverability.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll rely on automations to Deal with Nearly all your email marketing.
(We will get to automations shortly, don’t worry.)
But if it is a brand new blog post, podcast, or timely Announcement, there is always a reason to send a more instant email.
That’s where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the brand new’Produce Campaign’ will provide you several options.
– Regular campaign: A traditional broadcast email.
– A/B split campaign: Multiple email Versions, including subject line, from title and, yes, even content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to subscribers who Do not open your broadcast email, together with the choice of altering the subject line and email content.
– RSS effort: Produce a recurring campaign That sends fresh content to subscribers using your website’s RSS feed.
Aside from a few additional choices, most of these will follow Exactly the same step-by-step procedure of a standard campaign.
So let us walk you through it.
As Soon as You click to create your effort, you’ll be asked to Select a favorite editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
Otherwise, you can switch to the Templates tab and choose from one of the pre-designed email templates — that will move you to the dragn’ drop editor by default.
At the time of writing, you’ll find 21 email templates to choose From which is a little on the low side, but the designs are super modern.
And, of course, if you’d just Like to reuse a previous email, you can click on the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this example, I’ll choose the first template in the library.
The editor is easy to work with, Making customizing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also utilize the blocks in the sidebar to add distinct Types of articles to your email, including videos, merchandise columns, and social connections.
After making your changes, just click’Done Editing’ and you will Be taken to the recipients’ options where you are able to choose your groups or sections.
The tab also allows you To develop segment-like rules , in case your targeting is not quite perfect.
Finally, right before sending, then you’ll get into the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control if your broadcast email should go Out, whether that’s instantly, at a set time/date, or in accordance with your readers time zones.
Impressive, right? Email Lite
Managing Your Clients
Possessing granular control over your readers is arguably among The most essential facets of any email advertising program today.
Because highly personalized campaigns are necessary if You’re searching to increase opens, clicks, and, most importantly, your conversions.
And while many providers Permit You to”tag” subscribers in order To target them more effectively, MailerLite utilizes a slightly different approach.
When you open up your subscriber dashboard, you’ll see two Options; Segments and Groups.
Segments are basically principles.
Your subscribers belong to a segment only when they fulfill the Specified rules, and are automatically added or removed so.
Here is what setting up a rule looks like:
Notice the way you can also blend Rules, as well as an alternate rule when the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The next tab is for groups, and despite the difference in name, These act much like your normal”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the name to’Tags’, but finally decided against it)
Unlike Segments, Groups are updated manually or via an Automation rule — which we’ll get to in a moment — and they don’t have any value besides what you actually call them.
As you start to use this stage, you’ll begin to understand Where Segments and Groups are generally used, but MailerLite delivers a hand in the event you’re unsure:
Basically, groups are more of a Deliberate action on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments allow you to lump multiple contributors collectively according to a frequent denominator.
Somewhat confusing, I will admit… but I believe it is a fair trade-off For the additional flexibility. Besides, they are optional.
Finally, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You will notice that MailerLite has Already populated this area with their own areas, such as title, business, and nation.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do this by Clicking on the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they actually work?
You can either upload a CSV file of your readers along with Your custom field data in separate columns… or can easily add these fields to your forms which will only apply to future subscribers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test field I made and added to a form:
I will not go too much into the form Things here since I have an entire section on that below, but this is the approach I’d recommend if you wished to use this feature.
Again, once you’ve gathered your custom field information from new Subscribers, you are able to pull them in to your email content and subject line.
Just click the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Custom field.
I’m barely scraping the surface Of what is possible with custom fields, but it is important to know that this is a feature you may use.
Overall, it is fair to say MailerLite has their contributor Direction and personalization features on stage. Email Lite
If you are not impressed by what you’ve seen so far, then perhaps The page builder will tickle your fancy.
After selecting’Landing Pages’ from the forms page, you’ll be Able to select from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template selection Is not winning any awards, but it does offer a great base to work from if, like the majority of us, you don’t have that pure eye for layout.
I went ahead and selected the’Lead Generation’ template, though They ultimately do the same job; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will Provide you 17 building blocks to Further construct or alter your landing page.
Now, I’ve used my fair share of Visual site builders, and it is already better than a few dedicated alternatives *cough* WPBakery.
Together with the fundamental building blocks, you can use elements like Hero sections, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
It won’t be replacing landing Page builders like Thrive Architect or even LeadPagesanytime shortly, but credit where credit due, this thing over-delivers on all 3 kind types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email advertising tools, MailerLite actually offers a Adequate set of form building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this same interface, so there is a whole lot to cover here.
Let’s begin with your Bog-standard embedded type.
These forms are created inside MailerLite in order to get An embed code, which you can then place on your site to display it on particular pages.
Despite beginning super fundamental, the form designer allows you To personalize everything in the form style, subjects, background, title, input fields and, clearly, the button.
Form text may also be edited directly, which Provides you a chance To envision your own backup in real-time.
It would have been nice to have Some templates here, but as you know, there is more to some form than just its physical appearance.
Clicking the’Settings’ tab will allow you to configure how the Form works, including adding additional fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There is even a GDPR compliance alternative. Sweet.)
And talking of the success webpage…
…MailerLite also enables you to customize the default message, That can replace the embedded form also prevents users .
Last but surely not least, you Can check how your form displays on cellular by shifting the toggle to responsive mode.
You won’t Have the Ability to make any design changes here, but it makes Sense to test, nevertheless.
So that is an Summary of the Embedded form but like I said before, you can also create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the majority of the setup Procedure is identical, there are Still a few differences I’d like to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most Comprehensive selection, they do provide a fantastic base to work from and the editor is just as simple to use for this form type.
Clicking the’E-commerce’ template requires me into a preview Before moving into the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are a few new options under form types This time around:
Considering paid tools such as Thrive Leads exist for ribbons and slide-in forms, it is pretty impressive to see this level of control over popup types.
And, as before, you can play with the styling options to get it Matched with your branding.
Finally, you can choose the near Behaviour of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is the X icon, but you can swap this out for A”No thanks” text option, or have both.
That is where most email Marketing platforms would render you, but MailerLite has one more trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your effort Data in the main dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click data, Subscriber development, automation stats, and form signups.
Clicking into any effort will Give you special coverage for that campaign.
This is where you’ll discover some statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying surroundings, email client and more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average user…
…but if you really want To dig into the numbers, it is possible to click into different areas of this report to get a more detailed breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.
By Way of Example, the’View Email’ tab also shows a click map, so You can see precisely how your subscribers interacted to one another.
Reports for automations will also be Available under the’Automations’ tab, even although I found these to be less enlightening than campaign reports.
Here’s a quick example:
Total, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting port, and many will find the available data more than sufficient to meet their needs.
What’s email advertising without a dash of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could simply make or break this particular review.
The great news? If you’ve ever used a visual workflow builder, You will immediately feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, That the automations interface is simple, clean and easy to navigate — something that certainly can not be said for every email advertising program.
After setting your trigger, you can begin adding measures to your workflow.
These steps can be anything from sending an email, including a Delay, a conditional split, or an act, such as moving a subscriber or updating their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I set together, where subscribers Are unsubscribed if they don’t open my email within seven days.
There are countless Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite ought to not have any trouble with the huge majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign since it lacks some of the conditional components. (Split, Go To, Goal, etc.. )
For example, there’s now no automation for moving Subscribers directly into a different automation.
That being said, the Majority of these actions can Nevertheless Be achieved by moving Subscribers into different classes that trigger new automation workflows. It is simply much less efficient…. yet.
Another matter of efficiency here is when generating new mails From the automation workflow builder.
After having an email cube to The workflow, you will be asked to put in your topic line which appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking the’Design email’ button will fire up the Editor:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the standard campaign creation wizard, which I covered previously in the review.
This time, but as Soon as You’ve created your email, clicking the ‘Done editing’ button will guide you straight back to the automations workflow rather than the usual sending alternatives.
Ultimately, your email address will be Loaded into your automation.
A Wonderful touch here is using a thumbnail preview of your Email inside your automation block, so you can get an concept about what it contains at a glimpse.
While this procedure may seem like A grind on newspaper, it is really much quicker than what I’m used to with other email advertising tools — ActiveCampaign being a fantastic example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something such as ConvertKit where The editor is loaded inside the automations builder, you’ll likely find that this downgrade in functionality.
It’s fast enough for me, Personally, however I guess it is all relative.
Before I wrap up this segment, there’s one type of automation You will not find in MailerLite, and that I think that it’s important to highlight.
The ability to trigger an automation (or step) based on how Readers interact with all the webpages on your website.
This kind of behavioral targeting just isn’t accessible MailerLite at this time, so if it’s something you use or plan to utilize, you might want to skip this one. Email Lite
The Price of MailerLite is one of those tools biggest Selling things, and let us face it, we all love a fantastic bargain.
For starters, they offer an unlimited free plan that includes All features (including premium) to get as many as 1,000 subscribers.
While There’s some subtle Branding in your emails using this program, it’s still an amazing option for those starting out.
And what about the top plans?
It ends up, at around half of the Cost of the rivalry generally, MailerLite is undoubtedly among the least expensive options available on the market. Additionally, if you’re ready to pay annually, you are also able to get an even better discount.
In fact, I have not been able to locate anything that does exactly the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is among the very few advertising tools to interrupt The (very crowded) sector in recent decades, which is no easy feat.
While it’s not as quickly as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it performs exceptionally well at virtually anything you can throw at it.
I find MailerLite strikes the perfect balance Between flexibility, speed and simplicity, and at a price point you’ll seriously struggle to beat.
Thinking of giving it a twist? Let us know how it works for you In the remarks. Email Lite
