Introduction Email Marketing App
When I asked you to name an email Marketing tool, what would you say? Email Marketing App
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like many online industries now, email marketing has been Dominated by the same big players for the previous ten years. Which means they get encouraged very deeply and achieve a great deal of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the market, inducing long-time customers to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done precisely that.
So today, in this review, I will be ripping MailerLite from limb To limb to see whether it stands its ground against the big boys…
…and, more importantly, whether youshould consider making the switch.

Like most email marketing providers these days, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the software.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to finish your profile.
This includes information such as your company name, site, Industry, address, company size, list size and even the kind of material you intend to send.
Then, You Have to verify your Site (or domain name).
This is still part of the approval process, and MailerLite will Simply inquire which email is associated to this domain so they can email you a confirmation link.
Once you’ve completed these Steps, you ought to wait it out.
The MailerLite staff will review your application, check your Website, and ascertain whether you are a good fit for their service.
(Quite simply, they’re making sure you’re not a spammer/scammer)
As shown above, you’ll still be Able to utilize the software to make campaigns and play with the features, but you will not be able to send anything before accepted.
I had been”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limitation of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
But while these steps are not perfect for getting started, it Does help prevent unscrupulous users from hurting everybody’s deliverability.
If you are anything like me, you’ll rely upon automations to handle The majority of your email advertising.
(We will get to automations soon, don’t worry.)
But if it’s a new blog post, podcast, or timely Announcement, there’s always a reason to send a more instant email.
That’s where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the new’Produce Campaign’ will give you several options.
– Regular effort: A traditional broadcast email.
– A/B split effort: Multiple email Variations, including subject line, from name and, yes, even email content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to subscribers who Do not open your broadcast email, together with the choice of altering the subject line and email content.
– RSS campaign: Produce a recurring campaign That sends fresh content to readers using your site’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few added options, the Majority of these will follow The exact same step-by-step process of a standard effort.
So let us walk you through it.
Once you click to create your effort, you’ll be asked to Pick a favorite editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
Otherwise, you can change to the Templates tab and choose from one of their pre-designed email templates — which will move you into the dragn’ drop editor .
In the time of writing, there are 21 email templates to select From which is somewhat on the low side, but the layouts are super modern.
And, of course, if you’d just Prefer to reuse a previous email, you can click on the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this example, I will select the first template from the library.
The editor is easy to use, Which makes customizing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the blocks in the sidebar to add different Kinds of content to your email, such as videos, merchandise columns, and societal connections.
After making your adjustments, simply click’Done Editing’ and you will Be carried to the recipients’ options where you are able to select your groups or sections.
The tab also allows you To develop segment-like rules , in case your targeting is not quite right.
Finally, before sending, you’ll get into the’Schedule’ screen.
This is where you control if your broadcast email should go Out, if that’s instantly, at a set time/date, or in accordance with your subscribers time zones.
Impressive, right? Email Marketing App
Managing Your Clients
Possessing granular control over your readers is arguably one of The most essential facets of any email advertising software today.
Because highly personalized campaigns Are Essential if You are searching to increase clicks, opens, and, above all, your own conversions.
And while most providers Permit You to”label” readers in order To target them more effectively, MailerLite utilizes a slightly different strategy.
When you start up your subscriber dashboard, you’ll notice two Options; Segments and Groups.
Segments are basically rules.
Your subscribers belong to a section only when they meet the Specified principles, and are automatically inserted or removed so.
Here is what establishing a rule looks like:
Notice how you can also combine Principles, in addition to another rule when the first doesn’t exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The next tab is for groups, and also the difference in title, These act much like your normal”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the name to’Tags’, but finally decided against it)
Contrary to Segments, Groups are upgraded manually or through an Automation principle — which we’ll get into in a minute — and they don’t have any value besides what you actually call them.
As you start to use this platform, you’ll Start to understand Where Segments and Groups are generally used, but MailerLite offers a hand in the event you’re uncertain:
Basically, groups are much more of a Deliberate action on a per-subscriber foundation, whereas Segments allow you to bulge multiple subscribers collectively based on a frequent denominator.
Somewhat confusing, I’ll admit… but I feel it’s a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. In any case, they’re discretionary.
Finally, the’Fields’ tab is used to customize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this region with their particular fields, such as title, business, and country.
If You Would like to create your own custom fields, you can do so by Clicking the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they actually work?
You can either upload a CSV file of your readers along with Your custom field data in distinct columns… or may easily add these fields to your forms which will only apply to future subscribers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test field I made and added to a form:
I will not go too much to the form Things here because I have a whole section on this below, but this is the approach I would recommend if you wished to use this feature.
Again, as Soon as You’ve gathered your custom field information from fresh Subscribers, you are able to pull them into your email content and subject line.
Just click on the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Customized field.
I’m barely scratching the surface Of what is possible with custom fields, but it is important that you understand that this is a feature you can use.
Overall, it is fair to say MailerLite has their contributor Management and personalization features on point. Email Marketing App
If you are not impressed with what you have seen so far, then maybe The page builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ from the forms page, then you will be Able to pick from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template choice Is not winning any awards, but it will offer a great foundation to work from if, like most people, you don’t have that pure eye for layout.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, though They ultimately do the same job; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will Provide you 17 building blocks to Further build or alter your landing page.
Now, I have used my fair share of Visual page builders, and this is better than a few dedicated alternatives *Infection * WPBakery.
Along with the fundamental building blocks, you can use components like Hero sections, popup buttons, reviews and countdown timers.
No, it will not be replacing landing Page builders like Thrive Architect or LeadPagesanytime soon, but credit where credit due, this thing over-delivers on all three kind types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email marketing tools, MailerLite actually offers a Adequate pair of form building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this same interface, so there is a whole lot to cover .
Let’s begin with your Bog-standard embedded type.
These forms are first created inside MailerLite so as to get An embed code, which you can then place on your site to display it on particular pages.
Despite starting off super basic, the form designer allows you To personalize everything in the form style, fields, background, title, enter fields and, clearly, the button.
Form text may also be edited directly, which gives you a Opportunity To envision your own backup in real time.
It would have been nice to have Some templates, but as you know, there is more to some form than just its physical appearance.
Clicking the’Settings’ tab will allow you to configure the way the Form functions, including adding extra fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There’s a GDPR compliance option. Sweet.)
And speaking of the success webpage…
…MailerLite also lets you customize the default message, Which will replace the embedded kind also prevents users .
Last but certainly not least, you Can assess the way your form screens on cellular by switching the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t Have the Ability to make any layout changes , but it makes Sense to check, nevertheless.
So that’s an Summary of the Embedded form but like I said before, you can even create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the majority of the installation process is identical, there are A few differences I’d like to point out.
Unlike embedded forms, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most Comprehensive selection, they do provide a good base to work from and the editor is at least as easy to use with this form kind.
Clicking the’E-commerce’ template takes me into a preview Before moving into the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are some new options under form types Now around:
Contemplating paid tools like Thrive Leads exist for ribbons and slide-in forms, it is pretty impressive to see this amount of control over popup types.
And, as before, you can play the styling options to get it Matched up with your branding.
Finally, you can choose the close Behavior of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is that the X icon, but you can swap this out for A”No thanks” text option, or have .
That is where most email Marketing platforms will leave you, but MailerLite has one more trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like most tools, you’ll find a summary of your effort Statistics in the main dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from campaign open and click data, Subscriber growth, automation stats, and form signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you specific coverage for that campaign.
This is where you’ll discover some statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, reading environment, email client and much more.
This should be plenty of Information for the ordinary consumer…
…but if you really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into individual areas of this report for a more comprehensive breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.
By Way of Example, the’View Mail’ tab also displays a click map, so You can see your subscribers interacted with your mails in relation to one another.
Reports for automations are Available under the’Automations’ tab, even though I found these to be less insightful than campaign reports.
Here’s a quick example:
Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting port, and many will find the available data more than enough to meet their needs.
What’s email advertising without a dashboard of automation?
For many reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could simply make or break this particular review.
The good news? If you’ve used a visual workflow builder, You will instantly feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, The automations interface is simple, clean and easy to navigate — something that certainly can not be said for every email advertising program.
After setting your trigger, you can Start adding steps to your workflow.
These measures can be anything from sending an email, including a Delay, a bubble break, or an act, such as transferring a subscriber or updating their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I set together, where readers Are unsubscribed if they don’t open my email within seven days.
There are countless Possibilities in regards to workflow automations similar to this, and MailerLite ought to have no trouble with the vast majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign since it lacks some of the conditional elements. (Split, Go To, Goal, etc.)
For Instance, there’s currently no automation for moving Subscribers directly into another automation.
That being said, the Majority of these activities can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into various groups that activate new automation workflows. It’s just much less effective…. yet.
Another question of efficiency here is when creating new emails From the automation workflow builder.
After having an email block to The workflow, you will be asked to add your subject line which appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking the’Design email’ button will fire up the Editor:
Now, you’ll be temporarily Redirected to the standard campaign creation wizard, which I covered previously in the critique.
This time, however, once you’ve established your email, clicking the ‘Done editing’ button will direct you straight back to the automations workflow rather than the usual sending options.
Finally, your email will be Loaded into your automation.
A nice touch here is having a thumbnail preview of your Email inside your automation block, which means you can find an concept about what it contains at a glance.
While this process may seem like A grind on newspaper, it is really much faster than what I am utilized to with other email marketing tools — ActiveCampaign being a fantastic example.
On the other hand, if you’ve come over from something such as ConvertKit where The editor is loaded within the automations builder, so you will probably find this a downgrade in performance.
It’s quick enough for me, Personally, but I guess it is all relative.
Before I wrap up this segment, there’s 1 Kind of automation You will not find in MailerLite, and that I think that it’s important to highlight.
The ability to trigger an automation (or step) based on how Subscribers interact with the webpages on your site.
This kind of behavioral targeting only is not available in MailerLite at this time, so if it’s something you use or plan to use, you may want to skip this one. Email Marketing App
The cost of MailerLite is one of those tools largest Selling things, and let’s face it, we all love a fantastic deal.
For starters, they offer an unlimited free plan that includes All attributes (including premium) for as many as 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding in your emails using this program, it’s still an wonderful alternative for those starting out.
And what about the top plans?
It turns out, at approximately half the Price of this rivalry generally, MailerLite is undoubtedly among the least expensive options available on the industry. Plus, if you’re willing to pay yearly, you can also get a much greater discount.
In fact, I haven’t been able to locate anything that does exactly the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is among the email advertising tools The (very crowded) industry in the last couple of decades, which is no easy feat.
While it is not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it works exceptionally well at virtually anything you can throw at it.
Overall, I find MailerLite strikes the perfect balance Between flexibility, simplicity and speed, and all at a price point you will seriously struggle to conquer.
