Introduction Email Marketing List Management
When I asked you to name an email Marketing instrument, what could you say? Email Marketing List Management
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like most online industries today, email advertising has been Dominated by the identical large players for the last decade. Which means they get promoted very heavily and accomplish a great deal of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the marketplace, inducing long-time customers to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done precisely that.
So today, in this short article, I will be tearing MailerLite from limb To limb to see whether it stands its ground against the big boys…
…and, what’s more, whether youshould consider making the change.

Like most email marketing providers these days, You’ll Need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the program.
When you first register, you’ll be asked to finish your profile.
This includes information like your organization name, site, Business, address, company size, record size and also the type of material you intend to send.
Then, You Have to verify your Site (or domain ).
This is still part of this approval process, and MailerLite will Simply inquire which email is related to this domain in order that they can email you a confirmation link.
As Soon as You’ve completed those Measures, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite team will review your application, check your Website, and ascertain whether you’re a fantastic match for their service.
(In other words, they’re making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)
As shown above, you’ll still be Able to utilize the software to create campaigns and play with the attributes, but you will not have the ability to send anything before approved.
I was”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limitation of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
But while these steps aren’t ideal for getting started, it Does help prevent unscrupulous users from hurting everyone else’s deliverability.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll rely upon automations to Deal with The majority of your email advertising.
(We’ll get to automations shortly, do not worry.)
But whether it’s a brand new blog post, podcast, or timely Announcement, there is always some excuse to send a more instant email.
That is where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the brand new’Produce Campaign’ will give you several options.
– Regular effort: A traditional broadcast email.
– A/B split campaign: Multiple email Versions, such as subject line, from name and, yes, even content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to readers who Do not start your broadcast email, with the option of changing the subject line and email content.
– RSS effort: Create a recurring campaign That sends fresh content to subscribers using your website’s RSS feed.
Aside from a few added options, most of these will follow Exactly the exact same step-by-step process of a standard effort.
So let us walk you through it.
Once you click on to create your effort, you’ll be asked to Select a favorite editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
You can switch to the Templates tab and select from among the pre-designed email templates — which will move you into the dragn’ drop editor .
In the time of writing, you’ll find 21 email templates to choose From which is somewhat on the low side, but the designs are super modern.
And, of course, if you’d just Like to reuse a previous email, you can click on the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this example, I’ll choose the first template in the library.
The editor is easy to work with, Making viewing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the blocks in the sidebar to add distinct Kinds of content to your email, such as videos, merchandise columns, and social links.
After making your adjustments, simply click’Done Editing’ and you will Be carried to the recipients’ options where you can select your groups or sections.
The advanced tab also allows one To develop segment-like rules , in the event your targeting isn’t quite perfect.
Finally, before sending, then you’ll get into the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control when your broadcast email should go Out, whether that’s immediately, at a set time/date, or according to your subscribers time zones.
Impressive, right? Email Marketing List Management
Managing Your Subscribers
Having granular control over your subscribers is arguably among The most important aspects of any email marketing program now.
Because highly personalized efforts are necessary if You are searching to increase clicks, opens, and, most importantly, your conversions.
And while many providers Permit You to”label” readers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite utilizes a slightly different strategy.
When you open up your subscriber dashboard, you’ll see two Choices; Segments and Groups.
Segments are essentially rules.
Your readers belong to a segment only when they fulfill the Specified principles, and will be automatically inserted or removed accordingly.
Here’s what establishing a rule looks like:
Notice the way you can even combine Principles, as well as an alternate rule when the first doesn’t exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The following tab is for classes, and also the difference in name, These act much like your usual”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the name to’Tags’, but ultimately decided against it)
Contrary to Segments, Groups are updated manually or via an Automation rule — which we’ll get into in a minute — and they have no value aside from what you call them.
As you start to use this stage, you’ll Start to understand At which Segments and Groups are typically used, but MailerLite delivers a hand in case you’re uncertain:
Basically, groups are much more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments permit you to bulge multiple contributors together based on a common denominator.
Somewhat confusing, I’ll admit… but I feel it is a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. Besides, they are discretionary.
Last, the’Fields’ tab is used to customize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this area with their own fields, such as title, business, and country.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do this by Clicking the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV file of your subscribers together with Your custom field information in separate columns… or can simply add these fields to a forms which will only apply to prospective readers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test area I made and added to a form:
I won’t go too much to the form Stuff here since I have a whole section on this below, but this is the strategy I’d recommend if you wished to use this feature.
Again, once you’ve collected your custom field information from fresh Subscribers, you can pull them in to your email content and subject line.
Just click on the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Customized field.
I am barely scraping the surface Of what is possible with custom fields, but it’s important to understand this is a feature you can use.
Overall, it is reasonable to state MailerLite has their subscriber Direction and personalization features on stage. Email Marketing List Management
If you are not impressed with what you’ve seen up to Now, then maybe The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ from the forms page, then you will be Able to pick from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template choice Isn’t winning any awards, but it will offer a great base to work from if, for example the majority of us, you don’t have that natural eye for layout.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, however They finally do the identical task; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will give you 17 building blocks to Further build or change your landing page.
Now, I have used my fair share of Visual page builders, and it is better than some dedicated alternatives *cough* WPBakery.
Along with the basic building blocks, you can use components like Hero sections, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
No, it will not be replacing landing Page builders like Thrive Architect or LeadPagesanytime shortly, but credit where credit due, this item over-delivers on all three form types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email advertising tools, MailerLite really offers a Adequate set of type building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this exact same interface, so there is a whole lot to cover .
Let’s begin with your Bog-standard embedded type.
These forms are first created inside MailerLite so as to get An embed code, which you can then place on your site to display it on specific pages.
Despite starting off super basic, the form designer lets you To customize everything from the kind style, fields, background, title, enter fields and, clearly, the button.
Form text can also be edited directly, which gives you a Opportunity To visualize your backup in real time.
It would’ve been nice to have Some templates here, but as you know, there is more to a form than simply its appearance.
Clicking on the’Settings’ tab will allow you to configure how the Form functions, such as adding additional fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There is even a GDPR compliance option. Sweet.)
And speaking of the success webpage…
…MailerLite also lets you customize the default message, That can replace the embedded form and prevents users .
Last but certainly not least, you Can check the way your form screens on mobile by switching the toggle to responsive mode.
You won’t Have the Ability to make any design changes here, but it makes Sense to check, nevertheless.
So that’s an Summary of this Embedded form but like I said before, you may even create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the Vast Majority of this installation process is identical, you will find A few differences I’d love to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most Comprehensive selection, they do provide a good foundation to work from and the editor is at least as easy to use with this form kind.
Clicking the’E-commerce’ template takes me to a preview Before moving to the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are a few new choices under form types Now around:
Contemplating paid tools such as Thrive Leads exist for both ribbons and slide-in forms, it is pretty impressive to observe this level of control over popup forms.
And, as before, you can play the styling options to get it Matched with your own branding.
Last, you can choose the near Behaviour of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is that the X icon, but you can swap out this for A”No thanks” text choice, or have .
That is really where most email Marketing platforms would render you, but MailerLite has yet another trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like most tools, you’ll find a summary of your effort Statistics in the main dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from campaign open and click info, Subscriber growth, automation stats, and kind signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you special reporting for this campaign.
This is where you’ll discover a few statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, reading environment, email client and more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average user…
…but if you really want To dig into the numbers, it is possible to click into individual areas of the report to get a more comprehensive breakdown.
You can find some real gems under These reports.
For example, the’View Mail’ tab also displays a click map, so You can see exactly how your subscribers interacted to another.
Reports for automations are also Accessible under the’Automations’ tab, even although I found to be less enlightening than effort reports.
Here’s a Fast example:
Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting port, and most will get the available statistics more than enough to fulfill their needs.
What is email marketing with no dash of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could easily make or break this particular review.
The good news? If you have ever used a visual workflow builder, You’ll instantly feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, The automations interface is easy, clean and easy to navigate — something that certainly can’t be said for each and every email advertising software.
After setting your trigger, you can begin adding steps to your workflow.
These steps could be anything from sending an email, including a Delay, a bubble break, or an action, such as transferring a subscriber or upgrading their records.
Here’s a straightforward workflow I put together, where subscribers Are unsubscribed when they do not open my email within 7 days.
There are innumerable Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations similar to this, and MailerLite should have no trouble with the vast majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign because it lacks some of the conditional components. (Split, Go To, Goal, etc.. )
For Instance, there’s currently no automation for moving Subscribers directly into a different automation.
That being said, most of these actions can Nevertheless Be achieved by moving Subscribers into various groups that trigger new automation workflows. It is simply not as effective…. yet.
Another question of efficiency here is when generating new emails From the automation workflow builder.
After having an email block to The workflow, you will be asked to put in your topic line that appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking on the’Design email’ button will fire up the Writer:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered earlier in the review.
This time, but as Soon as You’ve created your email, clicking the ‘Done editing’ button will direct you straight back to the automations workflow instead of the usual sending alternatives.
Finally, your email address will probably be Loaded into your own automation.
A Wonderful touch here is having a thumbnail preview of your Email within your automation block, which means you can get an idea about what it contains at a glance.
While this procedure may seem like A grind on paper, it is really much faster than what I’m used to with other email advertising tools — ActiveCampaign being a fantastic example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something such as ConvertKit where The editor is loaded inside the automations builder, you will likely find this a downgrade in functionality.
It is fast enough for me, Personally, but I guess it is all relative.
Before I wrap up this segment, there’s one type of automation You will not find in MailerLite, also that I think it’s important to highlight.
The ability to activate an automation (or measure ) based on the way Readers interact with all the webpages on your site.
This Sort of behavioral targeting only isn’t available in MailerLite at this time, so if it’s something you use or intend to use, you might want to skip this one. Email Marketing List Management
The Price of MailerLite is one of those tools biggest Selling things, and let us face it, most of us love a fantastic deal.
For starters, they offer an infinite free plan that includes All features (including premium) for as many as 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding on your mails using this plan, it’s still an amazing alternative for anyone starting out.
And what about the top plans?
It turns out, at around half the Cost of this competition generally, MailerLite is by far among the least expensive options on the market. Plus, if you are willing to pay annually, you are also able to get a much greater discount.
In fact, I haven’t been able to find anything that does the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is one of those few email advertising tools The (very crowded) industry in recent decades, and that’s no easy feat.
While it is not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it performs exceptionally well at virtually anything you can throw at it.
I find MailerLite strikes the perfect balance Between flexibility, simplicity and speed, and at a price point you’ll seriously struggle to conquer.
Thinking about giving it a twist? Let us know how it works for you In the comments. Email Marketing List Management
