Like most email marketing providers these days, You’ll Need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the program.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to complete your profile.
This includes information like your company name, website, Industry, address, company size, list size and also the type of content you plan to send.
Then, You Have to confirm your Website (or domain ).
This remains part of this approval process, and MailerLite will Simply inquire which email is related to that domain in order that they could email you a confirmation link.
As Soon as You’ve completed those Steps, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite staff will review your application, assess your Site, and ascertain whether you’re a fantastic fit for their service.
(In other words, they are making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)
As shown above, you’ll nevertheless be Able to utilize the software to create campaigns and perform with the features, but you won’t be able to send anything until approved.
I had been”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limitation of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
But while these steps are not perfect for getting started, it Does help prevent malicious users from damaging everybody’s deliverability.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll rely on automations to Deal with The majority of your email marketing.
(We’ll get to automations soon, do not worry.)
But if it is a brand new blog post, podcast, or timely Announcement, there is always a reason to send a more immediate email.
That’s where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the brand new’Create Campaign’ will give you several options.
– Regular effort: A Conventional broadcast email.
– A/B split campaign: Multiple email Versions, such as subject line, from name and, yes, even email content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to subscribers who Do not start your broadcast email, together with the option of altering the subject line and email articles.
– RSS campaign: Create a recurring campaign That sends new content to subscribers using your website’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few additional choices, most of these will follow Exactly the exact same step-by-step procedure of a normal effort.
So let us walk you through it.
Once you click on to create your effort, you’ll be asked to Pick a preferred editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
You can switch to the Templates tab and choose from among their pre-designed email templates — that will move you to the dragn’ drop editor .
In the time of writing, there are 21 email templates to select From which is a little on the low side, but the layouts are super contemporary.
And, of course, if you’d just Prefer to reuse a previous email, you can click on the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this example, I will choose the first template from the library.
The editor is easy to work with, Making viewing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the blocks in the sidebar to add different Types of articles to your email, such as videos, product columns, and social connections.
After making your changes, simply click’Done Editing’ and you will Be taken to the recipients’ choices where you can select your classes or segments.
The tab also allows you To develop segment-like rules , in the event your targeting isn’t quite perfect.
Finally, before sending, then you’ll get into the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control if your broadcast email should go Out, if that’s immediately, at a set time/date, or according to your subscribers time zones.
Impressive, right? Email Marketing Opt In Rules
Handling Your Subscribers
Possessing granular control over your readers is arguably among The most essential facets of any email marketing program today.
Because highly personalized campaigns Are Essential if You’re looking to increase opens, clicks, and, above all, your conversions.
And while most providers allow you to”tag” readers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite uses a slightly different approach.
When you open up your subscriber dash, you’ll notice two Choices; Segments and Groups.
Segments are basically rules.
Your readers belong to a section only when they fulfill the Specified principles, and will be automatically added or eliminated so.
Here is what setting up a rule looks like:
Notice how you can even blend Rules, in addition to an alternate rule if the first doesn’t exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The next tab is for groups, and also the difference in name, These act much like your usual”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the title to’Tags’, but ultimately decided against it.)
Contrary to Segments, Groups are updated manually or through an Automation principle — which we’ll get into in a minute — and they don’t have any value aside from what you call them.
As you Begin to use this stage, you’ll begin to understand At which Segments and Groups are typically used, however, MailerLite offers a hand in case you’re unsure:
Basically, groups are more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments allow you to bulge multiple subscribers collectively based on a common denominator.
Somewhat confusing, I will admit… but I believe it’s a fair trade-off For the additional flexibility. Besides, they’re optional.
Finally, the’Fields’ tab is used to customize your email copy.
You will notice that MailerLite has Already populated this region with their own areas, such as name, company, and country.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do this by Clicking on the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they actually work?
You can either upload a CSV file of your readers together with Your custom field information in separate columns… or may simply add these fields to your types which will only apply to future readers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test area I created and added to a form:
I will not go too much into the shape Stuff here since I have an entire section on that below, but this is the strategy I would recommend if you wanted to use this attribute.
Again, as Soon as You’ve collected your custom field data from new Subscribers, you are able to pull them into your email content and subject line.
Just click on the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Customized field.
I am barely scratching the surface Of what is possible with custom fields, but it’s important to know that this is a feature you may use.
Overall, it’s fair to state MailerLite has their subscriber Management and personalization features on stage. Email Marketing Opt In Rules
If you’re not impressed by what you’ve seen up to Now, then perhaps The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ in the forms page, you will be Able to pick from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template selection Is not winning any awards, but it will offer a great base to work from if, like most of us, you don’t have that natural eye for design.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, however They all ultimately do the same job; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will Provide you 17 building blocks to Further build or alter your landing page.
Now, I’ve used my fair share of Visual site builders, and it is better than some dedicated solutions *cough* WPBakery.
Together with the fundamental building blocks, you can use elements like Hero segments, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
It won’t be replacing landing Page builders such as Thrive Architect or LeadPagesanytime soon, but credit where credit due, this item over-delivers on all three kind types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email advertising tools, MailerLite actually offers a Decent pair of form building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this same interface, so there’s a whole lot to cover here.
Let us begin with your Bog-standard embedded form.
These forms are first created inside MailerLite so as to get An embed code, which you can then place on your website to display it on particular pages.
Despite beginning super fundamental, the form designer lets you To customize everything in the kind style, subjects, background, name, input fields and, clearly, the button.
Form text may also be edited directly, which gives you a Opportunity To envision your own backup in real time.
It would have been nice to have Some templates here, but as you know, there’s more to some form than simply its appearance.
Clicking the’Settings’ tab will Make It Possible for you to configure how the Form functions, such as adding additional fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There is even a GDPR compliance alternative. Sweet.)
And speaking of the success page…
…MailerLite also enables you to customize the default message, Which can replace the embedded kind and prevents users from redirecting.
Last but surely not least, you Can check how your form displays on cellular by shifting the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t Have the Ability to make any layout changes here, but it makes Sense to test, nevertheless.
So that’s an Summary of this Embedded form but like I said before, you may even create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the Vast Majority of this installation process is identical, you will find Still a few differences I’d love to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most Comprehensive choice, they do provide a fantastic foundation to work from and the editor is at least as easy to use with this form type.
Clicking on the’E-commerce’ template takes me into a preview Before moving to the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are some new choices under form types Now around:
Considering paid programs such as Thrive Leads exist for both ribbons and slide-in forms, it is pretty impressive to observe this amount of control over popup types.
And, as before, you can play with the styling options to get it Matched with your own branding.
Last, you can Select the near Behavior of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is the X icon, but you can swap out this for A”No thanks” text choice, or have both.
That is really where most email Marketing platforms would render you, but MailerLite has one more trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like most tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Statistics in the dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from campaign open and click info, Subscriber development, automation stats, and form signups.
Clicking into any effort will Give you specific reporting for that effort.
This is where you’ll discover some statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying surroundings, email client and more.
This should be plenty of Information for the ordinary user…
…but if you really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into different areas of the report to get a more detailed breakdown.
You can find some real gems under These reports.
By Way of Example, the’View Mail’ tab also shows a click map, so It’s possible to see precisely how your subscribers interacted to one another.
Reports for automations will also be Available under the’Automations’ tab, even although I found these to be less insightful than effort reports.
Here’s a quick example:
Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting interface, and most will find the available data more than sufficient to meet their needs.
What is email advertising without a dash of automation?
For many reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could simply make or break this review.
The good news? If you have used a visual workflow builder, You’ll immediately feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, The automations interface is simple, clean and simple to navigate — something that certainly can not be said for every email advertising software.
After establishing your trigger, you can begin adding steps to your workflow.
These measures can be anything from sending an email, adding a Postpone, a bubble break, or an action, like moving a subscriber or upgrading their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I set together, where subscribers Are unsubscribed if they do not open my email within seven days.
There are innumerable Possibilities in regards to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite should not have any trouble with the huge majority of use cases.
Granted, it is not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign because it lacks a number of the conditional elements. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.. )
For example, there’s now no automation for transferring Readers directly into another automation.
That being said, most of these activities can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into different groups that trigger new automation workflows. It is simply much less effective…. yet.
Another question of efficiency here is when generating new mails In the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email block to The workflow, you will be asked to add your topic line that appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking on the’Design email’ button will fire up the Writer:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered earlier in the review.
This time, however, as Soon as You’ve created your email, clicking on the ‘Done editing’ button will guide you straight back to the automations workflow rather than the usual sending options.
Finally, your email will probably be Loaded into your own automation.
A nice touch here is using a thumbnail preview of your Email within your automation block, which means you can get an concept of what it contains at a glance.
While this process may seem like A grind on newspaper, it’s really much quicker than what I am utilized to with other email marketing tools — ActiveCampaign being a great example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something such as ConvertKit where The editor is loaded within the automations builder, you will probably find that this downgrade in functionality.
It is fast enough for me, Personally, but I guess it’s all relative.
Before I wrap up this segment, there’s one Kind of automation You will not find in MailerLite, and that I think that it’s important to highlight.
The ability to trigger an automation (or measure ) based on the way Readers interact with all the pages on your site.
This Sort of behavioral targeting only is not accessible MailerLite right now, so if it’s something you use or intend to use, you might want to skip this one. Email Marketing Opt In Rules
The cost of MailerLite is undoubtedly one of those tools biggest Selling points, and let’s face it, most of us love a good deal.
For starters, they offer an infinite free plan that includes All attributes (including premium) to get as many as 1,000 subscribers.
While There’s some subtle Branding on your emails using this plan, it is still an amazing alternative for anyone starting out.
And what about the top plans?
It turns out, at around half of the Price of this rivalry on average, MailerLite is undoubtedly one of the least expensive options available on the industry. Additionally, if you are willing to pay yearly, you can also get a much better discount.
In fact, I haven’t been able to find anything that does exactly the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is among those very few email advertising tools The (very crowded) sector in the last couple of decades, which is no simple feat.
While it’s not as quickly as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it works exceptionally well at just about anything you can throw at it.
I find MailerLite strikes the perfect balance Between flexibility, simplicity and speed, and at a price point you will seriously struggle to beat.
