Background Email Marketing Panel
When I asked you to name an email Marketing tool, what would you say? Email Marketing Panel
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like many online industries today, email advertising has been Dominated by the identical large players for the previous ten years. Which means that they get encouraged very deeply and accomplish a great deal of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the market, inducing long-time customers to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done precisely that.
So now, in this short article, I’ll be ripping MailerLite from limb To limb to see whether it really stands its ground against the big boys…

Like most email advertising providers Nowadays, You’ll Need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the software.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to complete your profile.
This includes information like your company name, site, Business, address, company size, record size and even the type of material you plan to send.
Then, You Have to confirm your Website (or domain ).
This remains part of the acceptance process, and MailerLite will Simply ask which email is associated to this domain in order that they could email you a confirmation link.
As Soon as You’ve completed those Steps, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite staff will review your application, assess your Website, and ascertain whether you’re a good match for their service.
(In other words, they’re making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)
As revealed above, you’ll still be Able to use the software to create campaigns and perform with the attributes, but you won’t be able to send anything until accepted.
I was”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limit of 500 subscribers.
Here Is What the email said:
However, while these measures are not ideal for getting started, it Does help stop malicious users from hurting everybody’s deliverability.
If you are anything like me, you’ll rely on automations to handle Nearly all your email marketing.
(We’ll get to automations shortly, do not worry.)
But whether it’s a new blog post, podcast, or timely Announcement, there’s always a reason to send a more immediate email.
That’s where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the new’Produce Campaign’ will provide you several choices.
– Regular campaign: A Conventional broadcast email.
– A/B split campaign: Multiple email Versions, such as subject line, from name and, yes, even content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to subscribers who Don’t start your broadcast email, with the choice of changing the subject line and email articles.
– RSS campaign: Create a recurring campaign That sends fresh content to subscribers using your website’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few added choices, the Majority of these will follow Exactly the same step-by-step procedure of a standard campaign.
So let’s walk you through it.
As Soon as You click to create your effort, you’ll be requested to Select a favorite editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
Otherwise, you can switch to the Templates tab and select from among the pre-designed email templates — which will move you into the dragn’ drop editor by default.
At the time of writing, you’ll find 21 email templates to select From which is somewhat on the low side, but the designs are super modern.
And, of course, if you’d just Prefer to reuse a previous email, you can click the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this instance, I’ll select the first template from the library.
The editor is easy to work with, Which makes viewing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the cubes in the sidebar to add distinct Types of content to your email, such as videos, product columns, and societal connections.
After making your adjustments, simply click’Done Editing’ and you will Be carried to the recipients’ options where you are able to select your groups or sections.
The tab also allows you To develop segment-like rules on-the-fly, in case your targeting is not quite right.
Finally, right before sending, you’ll get into the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control if your broadcast email should go Out, if that is immediately, at a set time/date, or in accordance with your readers time zones.
Impressive, right? Email Marketing Panel
Handling Your Subscribers
Possessing granular control over your readers is arguably one of The most important aspects of any email advertising software today.
Because highly personalized campaigns Are Essential if You’re searching to increase clicks, opens, and, above all, your own conversions.
And while many providers allow you to”tag” readers in order To target them more effectively, MailerLite utilizes a slightly different approach.
When you open up your subscriber dash, you’ll notice two Options; Segments and Groups.
Segments are essentially rules.
Your subscribers belong to a segment only when they fulfill the Specified principles, and are automatically inserted or eliminated accordingly.
Here’s what establishing a rule looks like:
Notice how you can even combine Principles, in addition to another rule when the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The following tab is for groups, and also the difference in name, These act much like your usual”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the title to’Tags’, but finally decided against it)
Contrary to Segments, Groups are updated manually or via an Automation principle — that we will get into in a minute — and they don’t have any value besides what you actually call them.
As you start to use this stage, you’ll Start to understand Where Segments and Groups are typically used, however, MailerLite offers a hand in the event you’re unsure:
Basically, groups are more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments allow you to bulge multiple subscribers together based on a frequent denominator.
Somewhat confusing, I will admit… but I feel it’s a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. In any case, they are discretionary.
Last, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this region with their particular areas, such as name, business, and country.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do this by Clicking on the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they actually work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your subscribers along with Your custom field data in distinct columns… or can easily add these fields to a types which will only apply to prospective readers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test field I made and added into a form:
I won’t go too much to the form Stuff here since I have an entire section on this below, but this is the strategy I’d recommend if you wanted to use this attribute.
Again, once you’ve collected your custom field information from new Readers, you can pull them into your email content and subject line.
Just click the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Customized field.
I am barely scraping the surface Of what’s possible with custom fields, but it is important that you understand that this is a feature you can use.
Overall, it is reasonable to say MailerLite has their subscriber Management and personalization features on point. Email Marketing Panel
If you’re not impressed by what you have seen up to Now, then perhaps The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After selecting’Landing Pages’ in the forms page, you will be Able to pick from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template selection Is not winning any awards, but it does offer a great base to work from if, for example most of us, you do not have that pure eye for design.
I went ahead and selected the’Lead Generation’ template, however They all finally do the same task; accumulate an email address.
This time, the editor will give you 17 building blocks to Further build or change your landing page.
Now, I have used my fair share of Visual site builders, and it is already better than some dedicated solutions *cough* WPBakery.
Together with the fundamental building blocks, you can use elements like Hero sections, popup buttons, reviews and countdown timers.
No, it will not be replacing landing Page builders such as Thrive Architect or LeadPagesanytime shortly, but credit where credit due, this thing over-delivers on all 3 kind types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email advertising tools, MailerLite actually Provides a Decent pair of form building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this same interface, so there is a lot to cover .
Let’s start with your Bog-standard embedded form.
These forms are first created inside MailerLite so as to get An embed code, which you can then put on your website to show it on particular pages.
Despite starting off super fundamental, the form designer lets you To personalize everything in the kind style, fields, background, name, input fields and, clearly, the button.
Form text may also be edited directly, which gives you a Opportunity To envision your own backup in real-time.
It would’ve been nice to have Some templates here, but as you know, there’s more to a form than simply its physical appearance.
Clicking on the’Settings’ tab will allow you to configure the way the Form functions, such as adding extra fields and setting a custom success page.
(There’s even a GDPR compliance alternative. Sweet.)
And speaking of the success page…
…MailerLite also enables you to customize the default message, Which will replace the embedded kind also prevents users from redirecting.
Last but surely not least, you Can check the way your form displays on mobile by shifting the toggle to responsive mode.
You won’t Have the Ability to make any design changes , but it makes Sense to test, nevertheless.
So that is an overview of this Embedded form but like I said before, you can also create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the Vast Majority of the setup process is identical, there are Still a few differences I’d love to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most In depth selection, they do provide a good foundation to work from and the editor is just as easy to use with this form type.
Clicking on the’E-commerce’ template requires me to a preview Before moving to the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are some new options under form types Now around:
Considering paid tools such as Thrive Leads exist for ribbons and slide-in forms, it is pretty impressive to see this level of control over popup forms.
And, as before, you can perform the styling options to get it Matched up with your own branding.
Finally, you can choose the near Behavior of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is the X icon, but you can swap out this for A”No thanks” text choice, or have both.
That is where most email Marketing platforms would leave you, but MailerLite has one more trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like most tools, you’ll find a summary of your effort Statistics in the dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click info, Subscriber growth, automation stats, and kind signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you special coverage for that effort.
This is where you’ll find a few statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, reading surroundings, email client and more.
This should be plenty of Information for the ordinary user…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, it is possible to click into different areas of this report for a more detailed breakdown.
You can find some real gems under These reports.
By Way of Example, the’View Email’ tab also displays a click map, so It’s possible to see how your subscribers interacted to one another.
Reports for automations will also be Accessible under the’Automations’ tab, although I found these to be less insightful than campaign reports.
Here’s a quick example:
Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting interface, and most will get the available statistics more than sufficient to meet their demands.
What is email advertising without a dashboard of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could simply make or break this particular review.
The good news? If you’ve ever used a visual workflow builder, then You will instantly feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, That the automations interface is easy, clean and simple to navigate — something that certainly can not be said for every email advertising program.
After establishing your trigger, you can begin adding steps to your workflow.
These steps can be anything from sending an email, including a Postpone, a conditional split, or an action, like moving a subscriber or updating their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I put together, where subscribers Are unsubscribed when they do not open my email within 7 days.
There are innumerable Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations similar to this, and MailerLite should have no trouble with the vast majority of use cases.
Granted, it is not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign because it lacks a number of the conditional elements. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.. )
For Instance, there’s now no automation for moving Subscribers directly into a different automation.
That being said, the Majority of these actions can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into various groups that trigger new automation workflows. It is just not as effective…. yet.
Another matter of efficacy here is when generating new mails From the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email cube to The workflow, you will be asked to put in your subject line that then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking the’Design email’ button will automatically fire up the Editor:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the standard campaign creation wizard, which I covered earlier in the critique.
This time, but as Soon as You’ve established your email, clicking the ‘Done editing’ button will direct you back to the automations workflow rather than the usual sending alternatives.
Finally, your email will probably be Loaded into your own automation.
A nice touch here is using a thumbnail preview of your Email inside your automation cube, so it’s possible to get an idea about what it contains at a glance.
While this procedure may seem like A grind on newspaper, it is actually much faster than what I am utilized to with other email advertising tools — ActiveCampaign being a fantastic example.
On the other hand, if you’ve come over from something like ConvertKit where The editor is loaded inside the automations builder, you’ll probably find that this downgrade in performance.
It’s fast enough for me, Personally, but I guess it’s all relative.
Before I wrap up this section, there’s 1 type of automation You won’t find in MailerLite, and I think that it’s important to highlight.
The ability to trigger an automation (or step) based on how Subscribers interact with all the webpages on your site.
This kind of behavioral targeting just isn’t available in MailerLite at this time, so if it’s something you use or plan to utilize, you might want to skip this one. Email Marketing Panel
The cost of MailerLite is undoubtedly among those tools largest Selling points, and let us face it, we all love a good bargain.
For starters, they offer an unlimited free plan that includes All features (including premium) to get as many as 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding on your mails using this plan, it’s still an amazing alternative for anyone starting out.
And what about the premium programs?
It ends up, at around half the Price of this competition on average, MailerLite is undoubtedly among the cheapest options available on the market. Additionally, if you’re willing to pay yearly, you can also get a much greater discount.
In Reality, I have not been able to find anything that does the Exact Same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is one of those email marketing tools The (very crowded) sector in the last couple of decades, which is no simple feat.
While it is not as quickly as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it performs exceptionally well at virtually anything you can throw at it.
All in all, I find MailerLite strikes the best balance Between flexibility, speed and simplicity, and all at a price point you’ll seriously struggle to conquer.
