MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like many online industries today, email marketing has been Dominated by the same large players for the previous decade. Which means that they get encouraged very deeply and achieve a lot of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the marketplace, inducing long-time customers to question their loyalties.

Like most email marketing providers Nowadays, You’ll Need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the program.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to finish your profile.
This includes information like your organization name, site, Business, address, company size, record size and even the kind of content you plan to send.
Then, you need to confirm your Site (or domain ).
This remains part of the acceptance process, and MailerLite will Simply ask which email is associated to this domain so they can email you a confirmation link.
As Soon as You’ve completed these Measures, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite team will review your application, check your Website, and determine whether you are a fantastic match for their services.
(In other words, they are making sure you’re not a spammer/scammer)
As shown above, you’ll still be Able to utilize the software to create campaigns and perform with the features, but you won’t be able to send anything until accepted.
I was”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limitation of 500 subscribers.
Here Is What the email said:
However, while these steps aren’t ideal for getting started, it Does help stop unscrupulous users from hurting everybody’s deliverability.
If you are anything like me, you’ll rely upon automations to Deal with The majority of your email marketing.
(We’ll get to automations shortly, don’t worry.)
But if it’s a brand new blog post, podcast, or timely Announcement, there is always a reason to send a more instant email.
That is where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the new’Create Campaign’ will give you several options.
– Regular effort: A traditional broadcast email.
– A/B split campaign: Multiple email Versions, including subject line, from name and, yes, even content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to readers who Do not start your broadcast email, together with the option of altering the subject line and email articles.
– RSS effort: Produce a recurring campaign That sends fresh content to readers using your website’s RSS feed.
Aside from a few additional options, most of these will follow The same step-by-step process of a normal effort.
So let’s walk you through it.
As Soon as You click on to create your effort, you’ll be asked to Pick a preferred editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
Otherwise, you can switch to the Templates tab and choose from among their pre-designed email templates — which will move you to the dragn’ drop editor by default.
At the time of writing, there are 21 email templates to select From which is a little on the low side, however, the layouts are super modern.
And, of course, if you would just Prefer to reuse a previous email, you can click on the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this example, I’ll choose the first template in the library.
The editor is easy to use, Making viewing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also utilize the cubes in the sidebar to include different Kinds of articles to your email, including videos, product columns, and societal connections.
After making your adjustments, just click’Done Editing’ and you will Be taken to the recipients’ options where you can choose your classes or sections.
The tab also allows you To build segment-like rules on-the-fly, in case your targeting is not quite right.
Finally, before sending, you’ll get into the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control if your broadcast email should go Out, if that is immediately, at a set time/date, or according to your subscribers time zones.
Impressive, right? Email Marketing Software Reviews
Managing Your Subscribers
Possessing granular control over your subscribers is arguably one of The most essential aspects of any email marketing program now.
Because highly personalized campaigns Are Essential if You are looking to increase clicks, opens, and, above all, your conversions.
And while many providers Permit You to”tag” readers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite uses a slightly different approach.
When you open up your subscriber dash, you’ll notice two Choices; Segments and Groups.
Segments are basically rules.
Your subscribers belong to a section only when they fulfill the Specified rules, and will be automatically added or removed accordingly.
Here is what establishing a rule looks like:
Notice the way you can even combine Principles, in addition to an alternate rule when the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The following tab is for classes, and despite the difference in title, These behave much like your normal”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the name to’Tags’, but finally decided against it)
Unlike Segments, Groups are updated manually or via an Automation principle — which we’ll get into in a moment — and they don’t have any value besides what you actually call them.
As you start to use this stage, you’ll Start to understand At which Segments and Groups are typically used, however, MailerLite delivers a hand in case you’re uncertain:
Fundamentally, groups are more of a Deliberate action on a per-subscriber foundation, whereas Segments permit you to lump multiple contributors together according to a frequent denominator.
Somewhat confusing, I will admit… but I feel it’s a fair trade-off For the additional flexibility. In any case, they are optional.
Last, the’Fields’ tab is used to customize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this region with their particular areas, such as title, business, and nation.
If You Would like to create your own custom fields, you can do this by Clicking on the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your subscribers together with Your custom field data in separate columns… or may simply add these fields to a forms which will only apply to future readers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test area I made and added into a form:
I will not go too much into the shape Things here because I have a whole section on this below, but this is the strategy I’d recommend if you wished to use this feature.
Again, as Soon as You’ve collected your custom field information from fresh Readers, you can pull them in to your email content and subject line.
Just click on the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Custom field.
I am barely scraping the surface Of what is possible with custom fields, but it is important that you know that this is a feature you can use.
Overall, it’s reasonable to state MailerLite has their subscriber Direction and personalization features on point. Email Marketing Software Reviews
If you are not impressed by what you have seen up to Now, then perhaps The page builder will tickle your fancy.
After selecting’Landing Pages’ from the forms page, you will be Able to pick from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template choice Isn’t winning any awards, it does offer a great base to work from if, like most people, you don’t have that pure eye for design.
I went ahead and selected the’Lead Generation’ template, though They ultimately do the identical job; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will give you 17 building blocks to Further build or alter your landing page.
Now, I have used my fair share of Visual site builders, and it is better than some dedicated alternatives *cough* WPBakery.
Along with the fundamental building blocks, you can use components like Hero sections, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
No, it will not be replacing landing Page builders like Thrive Architect or LeadPagesanytime shortly, but credit where credit due, this thing over-delivers on all 3 kind types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email advertising tools, MailerLite really Provides a Decent set of type building tools.
Also, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this same interface, so there is a whole lot to cover here.
Let’s begin with your Bog-standard embedded type.
These forms are created inside MailerLite in order to get An embed code, which you can then put on your website to display it on specific pages.
Despite beginning super fundamental, the form designer lets you To customize everything from the form style, subjects, background, title, enter fields and, of course, the button.
Form text may also be edited directly, which gives you a Opportunity To visualize your backup in real-time.
It would have been nice to have Some templates, but as you know, there’s more to some form than just its physical appearance.
Clicking on the’Settings’ tab will Make It Possible for you to configure how the Form works, such as adding additional fields and setting a custom success page.
(There’s even a GDPR compliance alternative. Sweet.)
And speaking of the success page…
…MailerLite also enables you to customize the default message, That can replace the embedded form also prevents users .
Last but certainly not least, you Can check how your form displays on cellular by shifting the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t be able to make any layout changes here, but it makes Sense to test, nevertheless.
So that is an overview of this Embedded form but as I said before, you can also create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the Vast Majority of this setup Procedure is identical, there are Still a few differences I’d like to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most Comprehensive selection, they do offer a fantastic foundation to work from and the editor is at least as easy to use with this form type.
Clicking the’E-commerce’ template requires me to a preview Before moving into the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are a few new options under form types Now around:
Contemplating paid tools like Thrive Leads exist for both ribbons and slide-in forms, it’s pretty impressive to see this amount of control over popup types.
And, as before, you can play with the styling options to get it Matched with your own branding.
Finally, you can Select the close Behaviour of your form under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is the X icon, but you can swap this out for A”No thanks” text option, or have .
This is where most email Marketing platforms would leave you, but MailerLite has one more trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your effort Statistics in the main dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from campaign open and click info, Subscriber growth, automation stats, and form signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you specific reporting for that effort.
This is where you’ll find some statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying environment, email client and more.
This should be plenty of Information for the ordinary user…
…but if you really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into different areas of the report to get a more detailed breakdown.
You can find some real gems under These reports.
By Way of Example, the’View Email’ tab also shows a click map, so It’s possible to see your readers interacted to one another.
Reports for automations are Accessible under the’Automations’ tab, even though I found to be less insightful than campaign reports.
Here’s a quick example:
Total, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting interface, and most will find the available statistics more than enough to fulfill their demands.
What is email advertising with no dash of automation?
For many reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could easily make or break this review.
The good news? If you have ever used a visual workflow builder, You will immediately feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, The automations interface is simple, clean and simple to navigate — something which certainly can not be said for every email advertising software.
After establishing your trigger, you can begin adding measures to your workflow.
These measures could be anything from sending an email, including a Delay, a bubble break, or an action, like moving a subscriber or upgrading their records.
Here’s a straightforward workflow I set together, where subscribers Are unsubscribed if they don’t open my email within seven days.
There are innumerable Possibilities in regards to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite should have no trouble with the huge majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something such as ActiveCampaign because it lacks some of the conditional components. (Split, Go To, Goal, etc.. )
For Instance, there’s currently no automation for transferring Readers directly into a different automation.
That being said, most of these actions can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into various classes that trigger new automation workflows. It’s simply much less effective…. yet.
Another matter of efficacy here is when generating new mails In the automation workflow builder.
After having an email cube to The workflow, you will be asked to put in your topic line which then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking the’Design email’ button will automatically fire up the Writer:
Now, you’ll be temporarily Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered earlier in the review.
This time, however, once you’ve established your email, clicking the ‘Done editing’ button will direct you straight back into the automations workflow rather than the usual sending alternatives.
Finally, your email will be Loaded into your own automation.
A nice touch here is using a thumbnail preview of your Email within your automation cube, so you can find an concept about what it contains at a glance.
While this process may seem like A grind on paper, it’s actually much quicker than what I am used to with other email marketing tools — ActiveCampaign being a great example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something such as ConvertKit where The editor is loaded inside the automations builder, so you will likely find that this downgrade in functionality.
It is quick enough for me, Personally, however I guess it is all relative.
Before I wrap up this section, there’s one Kind of automation You won’t find in MailerLite, and that I think that it’s very important to highlight.
The ability to activate an automation (or step) based on the way Subscribers interact with the pages on your website.
This kind of behavioral targeting only is not accessible MailerLite at this time, so if it’s something you use or plan to utilize, you may want to skip this one. Email Marketing Software Reviews
The Price of MailerLite is undoubtedly one of the tools biggest Selling things, and let us face it, most of us love a fantastic deal.
For starters, they offer an infinite free plan that includes All attributes (including premium) to get up to 1,000 subscribers.
While There’s some subtle Branding on your emails using this plan, it is still an amazing alternative for anyone starting out.
And what about the top plans?
It turns out, at approximately half the Price of the rivalry on average, MailerLite is by far among the cheapest options available on the market. Plus, if you’re willing to pay annually, you can also get an even greater discount.
In fact, I haven’t been able to locate anything that does exactly the Exact Same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is among those very few marketing tools to interrupt The (very crowded) industry in recent years, and that’s no simple feat.
While it’s not as quickly as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it performs exceptionally well at virtually anything you can throw at it.
I find MailerLite strikes the perfect balance Between flexibility, simplicity and speed, and at a price point you will seriously struggle to beat.
