MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like many online businesses now, email marketing has been Dominated by the same big players for the previous ten years. Which means that they get promoted very heavily and achieve a great deal of mindshare.

Like most email advertising providers these days, You’ll Need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the program.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to finish your profile.
This includes information such as your organization name, site, Industry, address, company size, list size and also the type of material you intend to send.
Then, you need to verify your Website (or domain name).
This is still part of the acceptance process, and MailerLite will Simply inquire which email is associated to that domain in order that they could email you a verification link.
As Soon as You’ve completed these Measures, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite staff will review your application, check your Site, and determine whether you’re a fantastic match for their service.
(Quite simply, they’re making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)
As shown above, you’ll still be Able to utilize the software to make campaigns and play with the attributes, but you will not be able to send anything until accepted.
I had been”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limit of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
However, while these steps aren’t ideal for getting started, it Does help prevent unscrupulous users from damaging everyone else’s deliverability.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll rely upon automations to handle Nearly all your email marketing.
(We will get to automations shortly, don’t worry.)
But whether it is a brand new blog article, podcast, or timely Announcement, there is always a reason to send a more immediate email.
That is where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the brand new’Create Campaign’ will provide you several options.
– Regular effort: A traditional broadcast email.
– A/B split campaign: Multiple email Versions, such as subject line, from name and, yes, even content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to readers who Don’t start your broadcast email, together with the choice of changing the subject line and email articles.
– RSS effort: Produce a recurring campaign That sends fresh content to readers using your website’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few additional options, the Majority of these will follow The exact same step-by-step procedure of a standard campaign.
So let’s walk you through it.
Once you click to create your effort, you’ll be asked to Pick a favorite editor, whether that be the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
You can change to the Templates tab and select from one of the pre-designed email templates — which will move you to the dragn’ drop editor .
At the time of writing, there are 21 email templates to select From which is a little on the low side, but the layouts are super contemporary.
And, of course, if you’d just Like to reuse a previous email, you can click on the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this instance, I will choose the first template from the library.
The editor is easy to use, Which makes customizing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also utilize the blocks in the sidebar to include distinct Kinds of content to your email, including videos, merchandise columns, and social links.
After making your adjustments, just click’Done Editing’ and you’ll Be taken to the recipients’ choices where you can choose your groups or segments.
The tab also allows one To develop segment-like rules , in case your targeting is not quite right.
Finally, before sending, then you’ll get into the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control if your broadcast email should go Out, whether that’s instantly, at a set time/date, or according to your subscribers time zones.
Impressive, right? Mailerlite Free
Handling Your Subscribers
Possessing granular control over your subscribers is arguably among The most important facets of any email advertising program today.
Because highly personalized campaigns Are Essential if You are searching to increase clicks, opens, and, most importantly, your conversions.
And while many providers Permit You to”label” readers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite utilizes a slightly different strategy.
When you open up your subscriber dash, you’ll see two Choices; Segments and Groups.
Segments are basically rules.
Your subscribers belong to a segment only when they meet the Specified principles, and are automatically inserted or removed so.
Here is what setting up a rule looks like:
Notice the way you can also combine Rules, in addition to another rule if the first doesn’t exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The following tab is for groups, and despite the difference in name, These act much like your usual”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the name to’Tags’, but ultimately decided against it)
Contrary to Segments, Groups are updated manually or through an Automation rule — which we’ll get to in a moment — and they have no value aside from what you actually call them.
As you Begin to use this stage, you’ll begin to understand At which Segments and Groups are generally used, but MailerLite offers a hand in case you’re unsure:
Fundamentally, groups are more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber foundation, whereas Segments allow you to bulge multiple contributors collectively according to a common denominator.
Somewhat confusing, I will admit… but I feel it is a fair trade-off For the additional flexibility. Besides, they are discretionary.
Finally, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You will notice that MailerLite has Already populated this region with their own areas, such as name, company, and nation.
If You Would like to create your own custom fields, you can do this by Clicking the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your readers together with Your custom field data in distinct columns… or can easily add these fields to your types which will only apply to future readers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test area I created and added to a form:
I won’t go too much into the shape Stuff here because I have an entire section on this below, but this is the strategy I’d recommend if you wanted to use this attribute.
Again, once you’ve gathered your custom field information from fresh Subscribers, you can pull them in to your email content and subject line.
Just click on the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Customized field.
I’m barely scratching the surface Of what is possible with custom fields, but it’s important to know this is a feature you can use.
Overall, it’s reasonable to say MailerLite has their subscriber Direction and personalization features on point. Mailerlite Free
If you’re not impressed with what you have seen so far, then maybe The page builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ from the forms page, you will be Able to select from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template choice Is not winning any awards, it does offer a great base to work from if, like most people, you don’t have that pure eye for layout.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, though They all finally do the identical task; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will Provide you 17 building blocks to Further construct or change your landing page.
Now, I’ve used my fair share of Visual page builders, and this is already better than a few dedicated solutions *cough* WPBakery.
Together with the fundamental building blocks, you can use components like Hero segments, popup buttons, reviews and countdown timers.
It won’t be replacing landing Page builders like Thrive Architect or LeadPagesanytime shortly, but credit where credit due, this item over-delivers on all 3 kind types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email advertising tools, MailerLite really Provides a Adequate set of type building tools.
Also, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this exact same interface, so there is a lot to cover .
Let’s start with your Bog-standard embedded form.
These forms are first created inside MailerLite in order to get An embed code, which you can then put on your site to display it on specific pages.
Despite starting off super basic, the form designer allows you To personalize everything in the form style, subjects, background, title, enter fields and, of course, the button.
Form text may also be edited directly, which gives you a Opportunity To envision your own copy in real-time.
It would’ve been nice to have Some templates here, but as you know, there’s more to a form than simply its physical appearance.
Clicking on the’Settings’ tab will allow you to configure how the Form works, including adding additional fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There’s a GDPR compliance option. Sweet.)
And speaking of the success webpage…
…MailerLite also lets you customize the default message, Which will replace the embedded kind and prevents users from redirecting.
Last but surely not least, you Can assess the way your form screens on mobile by switching the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t be able to make any layout changes here, but it makes Sense to test, nevertheless.
So that is an Summary of this Embedded form but as I said before, you can even create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the majority of the setup process is identical, you will find A few differences I’d love to point out.
Unlike embedded forms, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most Comprehensive choice, they do provide a fantastic foundation to work from and the editor is at least as simple to use with this form type.
Clicking on the’E-commerce’ template takes me into a preview Before moving to the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are some new choices under form types Now around:
Considering paid programs such as Thrive Leads exist for both ribbons and slide-in forms, it’s pretty impressive to see this amount of control over popup forms.
And, like before, you can perform the styling options to get it Matched up with your branding.
Last, you can choose the near Behaviour of your form under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is that the X icon, but you can swap out this for A”No thanks” text option, or have both.
This is really where most email Marketing platforms would leave you, but MailerLite has one more trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your effort Statistics in the dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from campaign open and click data, Subscriber development, automation analytics, and kind signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you special coverage for this effort.
This is where you’ll find some more advanced statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying environment, email client and more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average user…
…but if you really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into different areas of the report for a more detailed breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.
By Way of Example, the’View Mail’ tab also displays a click map, so You can see your readers interacted to one another.
Reports for automations are Accessible under the’Automations’ tab, although I found these to be less insightful than effort reports.
Here’s a Fast example:
Total, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting port, and many will get the available statistics more than sufficient to fulfill their needs.
What is email marketing without a dashboard of automation?
For many reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could easily make or break this review.
The good news? If you’ve used a visual workflow builder, You’ll immediately feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, That the automations interface is simple, clean and easy to navigate — something that certainly can not be said for every email marketing software.
After setting your trigger, you can Start adding steps to your workflow.
These measures could be anything from sending an email, including a Postpone, a bubble break, or an act, such as moving a contributor or updating their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I set together, where readers Are unsubscribed when they don’t open my email within 7 days.
There are countless Possibilities in regards to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite ought to not have any trouble with the huge majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign because it lacks some of the conditional components. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.. )
For Instance, there’s currently no automation for transferring Subscribers directly into another automation.
That being said, most of these actions can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into various groups that trigger new automation workflows. It’s simply not as effective…. yet.
Another question of efficacy here is when generating new mails In the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email cube to The workflow, you will be asked to put in your topic line which appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking the’Design email’ button will automatically fire up the Writer:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered previously in the review.
This time, but as Soon as You’ve established your email, clicking on the ‘Done editing’ button will guide you straight back into the automations workflow instead of the usual sending options.
Ultimately, your email address will probably be Loaded into your automation.
A Wonderful touch here is having a thumbnail preview of your Email inside your automation cube, which means it’s possible to find an idea of what it contains at a glance.
While this process may seem like A grind on paper, it’s really much quicker than what I am utilized to with other email advertising tools — ActiveCampaign being a fantastic example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something such as ConvertKit where The editor is loaded inside the automations builder, so you will probably find that this downgrade in functionality.
It’s fast enough for me, Personally, but I guess it is all relative.
Before I wrap up this section, there is 1 type of automation You will not find in MailerLite, and I think it’s important to highlight.
The ability to trigger an automation (or measure ) based on the way Readers interact with the pages on your site.
This kind of behavioral targeting only isn’t available in MailerLite at this time, so if it’s something you use or intend to utilize, you may want to skip this one. Mailerlite Free
The cost of MailerLite is no doubt among those tools largest Selling things, and let’s face it, we all love a fantastic bargain.
For starters, they offer an infinite free plan that includes All features (including premium) for as many as 1,000 subscribers.
While There’s some subtle Branding on your emails using this plan, it is still an wonderful alternative for anyone starting out.
And what about the premium programs?
It ends up, at approximately half the Price of this rivalry on average, MailerLite is undoubtedly one of the cheapest options available on the market. Additionally, if you’re ready to pay annually, you can also get an even greater discount.
In fact, I haven’t been able to find anything that does the Exact Same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is among those few email advertising tools to interrupt The (very crowded) industry in the last couple of decades, and that’s no simple feat.
While it is not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it performs exceptionally well at just about anything you can throw at it.
Overall, I find MailerLite strikes the best balance Between flexibility, speed and simplicity, and all at a price point you’ll seriously struggle to conquer.
Thinking of giving it a spin? Let us know how it works for you In the remarks. Mailerlite Free
