Background Mailerlite Personalization
When I asked you to name an email Marketing tool, what could you say? Mailerlite Personalization
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like many online industries today, email advertising continues to be Dominated by the same big players for the previous decade. Which means they get promoted very heavily and accomplish a lot of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the market, inducing long-time customers to question their loyalties.

So today, in this short article, I’ll be ripping MailerLite from limb To limb to find out whether it stands its own ground against the big boys…

Like most email marketing providers Nowadays, You’ll Need to Go through a review process before being able to correctly use the software.
When you first register, you’ll be asked to complete your profile.
This includes information such as your organization name, site, Business, address, business size, record size and even the kind of content you plan to send.
Then, You Have to verify your Site (or domain ).
This is still part of the acceptance process, and MailerLite will Simply inquire which email is related to that domain so they can email you a verification link.
Once you’ve completed those Steps, you ought to wait it out.
The MailerLite staff will review your application, assess your Website, and determine whether you are a fantastic fit for their services.
(Quite simply, they’re making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)
As shown above, you’ll still be Able to utilize the software to make campaigns and play with the attributes, but you will not have the ability to send anything until accepted.
I was”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limit of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
However, while these steps aren’t ideal for getting started, it Does help stop unscrupulous users from damaging everybody’s deliverability.
If you are anything like me, you’ll rely upon automations to handle The majority of your email advertising.
(We’ll get to automations soon, don’t worry.)
But if it’s a brand new blog post, podcast, or timely Announcement, there’s always a reason to send a more immediate email.
That is where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the new’Create Campaign’ will provide you several choices.
– Regular effort: A Conventional broadcast email.
– A/B split campaign: Multiple email Variations, including subject line, from name and, yes, even email content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to subscribers who Do not start your broadcast email, together with the choice of altering the subject line and email content.
– RSS effort: Create a recurring campaign That sends fresh content to readers using your site’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few additional choices, most of these will follow Exactly the same step-by-step process of a normal effort.
So let’s walk you through it.
As Soon as You click on to create your campaign, you’ll be asked to Pick a favorite editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
You can switch to the Templates tab and select from one of the pre-designed email templates — that will move you to the dragn’ drop editor .
At the time of writing, you’ll find 21 email templates to choose From which is a little on the low side, however, the layouts are super contemporary.
And, of course, if you’d just Like to reuse a previous email, you can click on the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this instance, I’ll select the first template from the library.
The editor is easy to work with, Making customizing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the cubes in the sidebar to include distinct Types of articles to your email, such as videos, product columns, and social links.
After making your adjustments, simply click’Done Editing’ and you will Be carried to the recipients’ options where you can choose your classes or segments.
The advanced tab also allows one To build segment-like rules , in case your targeting isn’t quite perfect.
Finally, before sending, you’ll get to the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control if your broadcast email should go Out, if that’s immediately, at a set time/date, or according to your readers time zones.
Impressive, right? Mailerlite Personalization
Handling Your Clients
Possessing granular control over your readers is arguably one of The most essential facets of any email marketing program today.
Because highly personalized efforts Are Essential if You are looking to increase opens, clicks, and, above all, your own conversions.
And while most providers Permit You to”tag” subscribers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite utilizes a slightly different strategy.
When you open up your subscriber dash, you’ll see two Options; Segments and Groups.
Segments are essentially rules.
Your readers belong to a segment only when they fulfill the Specified rules, and will be automatically inserted or eliminated so.
Here is what establishing a rule looks like:
Notice how you can even blend Principles, as well as another rule when the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The next tab is for groups, and also the difference in name, These act much like your usual”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the title to’Tags’, but finally decided against it)
Unlike Segments, Groups are upgraded manually or through an Automation principle — that we will get into in a minute — and they have no value besides what you actually call them.
As you start to use this platform, you’ll begin to understand Where Segments and Groups are generally used, however, MailerLite offers a hand in case you’re unsure:
Basically, groups are more of a Deliberate action on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments allow you to bulge multiple subscribers collectively based on a common denominator.
Somewhat confusing, I will admit… but I believe it’s a fair trade-off For the additional flexibility. Besides, they’re optional.
Finally, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this region with their own areas, such as name, business, and nation.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do so by Clicking on the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your subscribers along with Your custom field data in separate columns… or may simply add these fields to a types which will only apply to prospective readers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test field I created and added into a form:
I won’t go too much into the form Things here since I have an entire section on that below, but this is the strategy I would recommend if you wanted to use this attribute.
Again, as Soon as You’ve gathered your custom field information from new Subscribers, you can pull them in to your email content and subject line.
Just click on the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Custom field.
I’m barely scraping the surface Of what’s possible with custom fields, but it’s important that you understand that this is a feature you can use.
Overall, it’s fair to say MailerLite has their subscriber Direction and personalization features on stage. Mailerlite Personalization
If you’re not impressed with what you have seen so far, then maybe The page builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ in the forms page, then you’ll be Able to select from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template choice Isn’t winning any awards, it does offer a fantastic base to work from if, like the majority of us, you do not have that natural eye for layout.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, though They all finally do the same task; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will Provide you 17 building blocks to Further build or alter your landing page.
Now, I’ve used my fair share of Visual page builders, and this is already better than some dedicated alternatives *cough* WPBakery.
Along with the basic building blocks, you can use components like Hero sections, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
No, it will not be replacing landing Page builders such as Thrive Architect or even LeadPagesanytime shortly, but credit where credit due, this thing over-delivers on all three kind types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email marketing tools, MailerLite really Provides a Adequate set of form building tools.
Also, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this exact same interface, so there’s a whole lot to cover here.
Let us start with your Bog-standard embedded type.
These forms are created inside MailerLite in order to get An embed code, which you can then put on your site to show it on specific pages.
Despite beginning super basic, the form designer lets you To customize everything from the form style, subjects, background, title, enter fields and, of course, the button.
Form text may also be edited directly, which Provides you a Opportunity To envision your own backup in real-time.
It would have been nice to have Some templates here, but as you know, there’s more to a form than simply its physical appearance.
Clicking on the’Settings’ tab will allow you to configure the way the Form works, including adding extra fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There is a GDPR compliance option. Sweet.)
And talking of the success webpage…
…MailerLite also lets you customize the default message, Which will replace the embedded kind also prevents users .
Last but certainly not least, you Can assess the way your form screens on mobile by switching the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t Have the Ability to make any design changes , but it makes Sense to test, nevertheless.
So that is an Summary of the Embedded form but as I said before, you may even create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the majority of this installation Procedure is identical, there are Still a few differences I’d like to point out.
Unlike embedded forms, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most In depth choice, they do offer a fantastic foundation to work from and the editor is at least as easy to use with this form kind.
Clicking on the’E-commerce’ template requires me into a preview Before moving into the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are a few new options under form types This time around:
Contemplating paid tools such as Thrive Leads exist for ribbons and slide-in forms, it is pretty impressive to see this level of control over popup types.
And, as before, you can play the styling options to get it Matched up with your own branding.
Last, you can choose the near Behavior of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is the X icon, but you can swap this out for A”No thanks” text choice, or have .
This is really where most email Marketing platforms will render you, but MailerLite has one more trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like most tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Statistics in the main dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from campaign open and click info, Subscriber development, automation stats, and kind signups.
Clicking into any effort will Give you specific coverage for this effort.
This is where you’ll find a few statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying environment, email client and much more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average consumer…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into individual areas of the report for a more detailed breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.
By Way of Example, the’View Mail’ tab also displays a click map, so You can see your readers interacted to one another.
Reports for automations are also Accessible under the’Automations’ tab, although I found to be less enlightening than effort reports.
Here’s a Fast example:
Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting port, and most will find the available data more than sufficient to meet their demands.
What is email advertising without a dash of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could easily make or break this particular review.
The great news? If you have ever used a visual workflow builder, You will immediately feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, That the automations interface is easy, clean and easy to navigate — something which certainly can’t be said for every email marketing software.
After establishing your trigger, you can begin adding steps to your workflow.
These steps could be anything from sending an email, adding a Postpone, a conditional split, or an act, such as moving a subscriber or upgrading their records.
Here’s a straightforward workflow I put together, where readers Are unsubscribed when they don’t open my email within 7 days.
There are innumerable Possibilities in regards to workflow automations similar to this, and MailerLite should have no trouble with the vast majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something such as ActiveCampaign because it lacks some of the conditional components. (Split, Go To, Goal, etc.)
For Instance, there’s currently no automation for moving Readers directly into a different automation.
That being said, most of these activities can Nevertheless Be achieved by moving Subscribers into various classes that activate new automation workflows. It is just much less efficient…. yet.
Another question of efficiency here is when generating new emails From the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email cube to The workflow, you’ll be asked to put in your subject line that then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking the’Design email’ button will automatically fire up the Writer:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the standard campaign creation wizard, which I covered previously in the review.
This time, however, once you’ve established your email, clicking the ‘Done editing’ button will guide you straight back to the automations workflow rather than the usual sending options.
Ultimately, your email will probably be Loaded into your own automation.
A nice touch here is having a thumbnail preview of your Email within your automation cube, so it’s possible to get an concept about what it contains at a glimpse.
While this process may seem like A grind on paper, it is really much faster than what I am utilized to with other email marketing tools — ActiveCampaign being a fantastic example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something such as ConvertKit where The editor is loaded within the automations builder, so you’ll probably find that this downgrade in performance.
It’s quick enough for me, Personally, however I guess it’s all relative.
Before I wrap up this section, there is one Kind of automation You won’t find in MailerLite, also that I think that it’s important to highlight.
The ability to activate an automation (or measure ) based on the way Readers interact with the pages on your site.
This kind of behavioral targeting only isn’t available in MailerLite at this time, so if it’s something you use or intend to utilize, you may want to skip this one. Mailerlite Personalization
The Price of MailerLite is one of the tools largest Selling things, and let us face it, we all love a good bargain.
For starters, they offer an unlimited free plan that includes All features (including premium) to get as many as 1,000 subscribers.
While There’s some subtle Branding in your mails using this plan, it’s still an amazing option for those starting out.
And what about the top programs?
It ends up, at around half the Price of this rivalry on average, MailerLite is undoubtedly among the cheapest options available on the industry. Plus, if you’re willing to pay annually, you can also get a much greater discount.
In fact, I have not been able to find anything that does the Exact Same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is among the email advertising tools The (very crowded) industry in recent decades, and that’s no easy feat.
While it’s not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it performs exceptionally well at just about anything you can throw at it.
I find MailerLite strikes the best balance Between flexibility, simplicity and speed, and at a price point you’ll seriously struggle to conquer.
Thinking of giving it a twist? Let us know how it works for you In the comments. Mailerlite Personalization
