Introduction Mailerlite Segmentation
If I asked you to name an email Marketing tool, what could you say? Mailerlite Segmentation
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like most online industries today, email advertising has been Dominated by the same big players for the previous decade. Which means that they get encouraged very deeply and achieve a lot of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the market, causing long-time customers to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done precisely that.
So today, in this review, I’ll be tearing MailerLite from limb To limb to find out if it really stands its ground against the big boys…

Like most email advertising providers Nowadays, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to correctly use the program.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to finish your profile.
This includes information like your company name, site, Industry, address, company size, list size and even the kind of material you plan to send.
Then, you need to verify your Website (or domain ).
This remains part of this approval process, and MailerLite will Simply ask which email is associated to that domain in order that they could email you a verification link.
As Soon as You’ve completed those Measures, you ought to wait it out.
The MailerLite staff will review your application, assess your Site, and ascertain whether you are a fantastic fit for their services.
(In other words, they are making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)
As shown above, you’ll nevertheless be Able to use the software to make campaigns and play with the attributes, but you won’t be able to send anything before approved.
I had been”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limit of 500 subscribers.
Here Is What the email said:
But while these steps aren’t ideal for getting started, it Does help stop malicious users from hurting everybody’s deliverability.
If you are anything like me, you’ll rely on automations to handle The majority of your email advertising.
(We will get to automations shortly, do not worry.)
But if it’s a new blog post, podcast, or timely Announcement, there’s always a reason to send a more immediate email.
That is where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the new’Produce Campaign’ will provide you several choices.
– Regular campaign: A traditional broadcast email.
– A/B split campaign: Multiple email Variations, such as subject line, from title and, yes, even email content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to readers who Do not open your broadcast email, with the option of changing the subject line and email articles.
– RSS effort: Create a recurring campaign That sends fresh content to subscribers using your site’s RSS feed.
Aside from a few additional options, the Majority of these will follow The exact same step-by-step procedure of a normal effort.
So let us walk you through it.
As Soon as You click on to create your effort, you’ll be asked to Select a favorite editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
Otherwise, you can change to the Templates tab and select from one of their pre-designed email templates — which will move you into the dragn’ drop editor by default.
In the time of writing, there are 21 email templates to select From which is somewhat on the low side, but the designs are super contemporary.
And, of course, if you would just Prefer to reuse a previous email, you can click the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this example, I will select the first template in the library.
The editor is easy to use, Which makes customizing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also utilize the cubes in the sidebar to add distinct Kinds of content to your email, such as videos, merchandise columns, and societal connections.
After making your adjustments, simply click’Done Editing’ and you’ll Be taken to the recipients’ choices where you are able to choose your groups or sections.
The tab also allows you To build segment-like rules on-the-fly, in the event your targeting isn’t quite right.
Finally, before sending, then you’ll get into the’Schedule’ screen.
This is where you control if your broadcast email should go Out, whether that’s instantly, at a set time/date, or according to your subscribers time zones.
Impressive, right? Mailerlite Segmentation
Managing Your Clients
Possessing granular control over your readers is arguably one of The most essential facets of any email marketing program today.
Because highly personalized campaigns are necessary if You’re looking to increase opens, clicks, and, above all, your conversions.
And while most providers allow you to”tag” readers in order To target them more effectively, MailerLite uses a slightly different approach.
When you open up your subscriber dashboard, you’ll notice two Choices; Segments and Groups.
Segments are basically rules.
Your readers belong to a segment only when they meet the Specified rules, and will be automatically inserted or eliminated accordingly.
Here’s what establishing a rule looks like:
Notice the way you can also combine Principles, as well as an alternate rule if the first doesn’t exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The next tab is for groups, and also the difference in title, These behave much like your usual”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the title to’Tags’, but ultimately decided against it)
Unlike Segments, Groups are upgraded manually or through an Automation principle — that we’ll get into in a minute — and they don’t have any value besides what you call them.
As you Begin to use this stage, you’ll Start to understand Where Segments and Groups are generally used, but MailerLite delivers a hand in the event you’re uncertain:
Fundamentally, groups are more of a Deliberate action on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments permit you to bulge multiple contributors collectively according to a common denominator.
Somewhat confusing, I will admit… but I feel it’s a fair trade-off For the additional flexibility. In any case, they’re optional.
Last, the’Fields’ tab is used to customize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this region with their own fields, such as name, business, and nation.
If You Would like to create your own custom fields, you can do so by Clicking on the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they actually work?
You can either upload a CSV file of your readers together with Your custom field information in distinct columns… or may easily add these fields to your forms which will only apply to prospective subscribers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test field I made and added into a form:
I won’t go too much into the form Things here because I have a whole section on this below, but this is the approach I would recommend if you wanted to use this feature.
Again, as Soon as You’ve collected your custom field data from fresh Subscribers, you are able to pull them in to your email content and subject line.
Just click on the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Custom field.
I am barely scraping the surface Of what is possible with custom fields, but it is important to understand this is a feature you can use.
Overall, it’s fair to say MailerLite has their contributor Direction and personalization features on point. Mailerlite Segmentation
If you’re not impressed by what you have seen up to Now, then perhaps The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ in the forms page, then you will be Able to pick from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template selection Is not winning any awards, but it will offer a fantastic base to work from if, like the majority people, you don’t have that natural eye for design.
I went ahead and selected the’Lead Generation’ template, though They ultimately do the same job; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will give you 17 building blocks to Further construct or alter your landing page.
Now, I have used my fair share of Visual page builders, and this is better than some dedicated solutions *cough* WPBakery.
Along with the fundamental building blocks, you can use components like Hero sections, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
No, it won’t be replacing landing Page builders like Thrive Architect or LeadPagesanytime soon, but credit where credit due, this item over-delivers on all three form types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email marketing tools, MailerLite actually offers a Adequate pair of type building tools.
Also, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this exact same interface, so there’s a whole lot to cover .
Let’s begin with your Bog-standard embedded form.
These forms are created inside MailerLite so as to get An embed code, which you can then put on your site to display it on specific pages.
Despite starting off super basic, the form designer allows you To personalize everything from the form style, subjects, background, title, input fields and, of course, the button.
Form text can also be edited directly, which gives you a Opportunity To envision your own copy in real-time.
It would have been nice to have Some templates here, but as you know, there is more to some form than simply its physical appearance.
Clicking the’Settings’ tab will allow you to configure the way the Form works, such as adding extra fields and setting a custom success page.
(There’s even a GDPR compliance option. Sweet.)
And speaking of the success webpage…
…MailerLite also enables you to customize the default message, Which will replace the embedded kind and prevents users from redirecting.
Last but surely not least, you Can check the way your form displays on cellular by shifting the toggle to responsive mode.
You won’t Have the Ability to make any layout changes , but it makes Sense to test, nevertheless.
So that’s an Summary of this Embedded form but as I said before, you can also create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the majority of the setup process is identical, you will find Still a few differences I’d like to point out.
Unlike embedded forms, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most Comprehensive choice, they do provide a good base to work from and the editor is just as simple to use for this form type.
Clicking on the’E-commerce’ template requires me into a preview Before moving into the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are some new choices under form types This time around:
Contemplating paid programs such as Thrive Leads exist for both ribbons and slide-in forms, it is pretty impressive to see this amount of control over popup forms.
And, as before, you can perform with the styling options to get it Matched up with your branding.
Finally, you can choose the close Behavior of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is that the X icon, but you can swap this out for A”No thanks” text choice, or have .
That is really where most email Marketing platforms will leave you, but MailerLite has yet another trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your effort Statistics in the dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click info, Subscriber growth, automation analytics, and kind signups.
Clicking into any effort will Give you specific reporting for this effort.
This is where you’ll discover some more advanced statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, reading environment, email client and much more.
This should be plenty of Information for the ordinary user…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, it is possible to click into individual areas of this report to get a more comprehensive breakdown.
You can find some real gems under These reports.
By Way of Example, the’View Email’ tab also shows a click map, so It’s possible to see your readers interacted to one another.
Reports for automations will also be Available under the’Automations’ tab, even although I found these to be less insightful than effort reports.
Here’s a Fast example:
Total, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting interface, and most will get the available statistics more than enough to meet their needs.
What is email marketing without a dash of automation?
For many reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could simply make or break this review.
The great news? If you’ve ever used a visual workflow builder, You will instantly feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, The automations interface is easy, clean and easy to navigate — something that certainly can not be said for every email advertising software.
After setting your trigger, you can begin adding steps to your workflow.
These measures could be anything from sending an email, including a Delay, a conditional split, or an act, such as transferring a subscriber or updating their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I set together, where subscribers Are unsubscribed if they do not open my email within 7 days.
There are innumerable Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite should have no trouble with the huge majority of use cases.
Granted, it is not quite as Feature-rich as something such as ActiveCampaign since it lacks some of the conditional components. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.. )
For Instance, there’s currently no automation for transferring Readers directly into another automation.
That being said, the Majority of these actions can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into different groups that activate new automation workflows. It is simply much less efficient…. yet.
Another question of efficiency here is when creating new mails From the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email block to The workflow, you’ll be asked to add your subject line that then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking on the’Design email’ button will fire up the Editor:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the standard campaign creation wizard, which I covered previously in the review.
This time, but as Soon as You’ve created your email, clicking on the ‘Done editing’ button will direct you back to the automations workflow instead of the usual sending options.
Finally, your email will be Loaded into your own automation.
A Wonderful touch here is having a thumbnail preview of your Email within your automation block, so it’s possible to find an idea of what it contains at a glimpse.
While this procedure may seem like A grind on paper, it is actually much quicker than what I am used to with other email marketing tools — ActiveCampaign being a fantastic example.
On the other hand, if you’ve come over from something such as ConvertKit where The editor is loaded within the automations builder, so you will probably find that this downgrade in functionality.
It’s quick enough for me, Personally, but I guess it’s all relative.
Before I wrap up this section, there’s one type of automation You won’t find in MailerLite, also I think it’s important to highlight.
The ability to activate an automation (or measure ) based on the way Subscribers interact with all the webpages on your website.
This Sort of behavioral targeting only is not accessible MailerLite at this time, so if it’s something you use or intend to utilize, you might want to skip this one. Mailerlite Segmentation
The Price of MailerLite is undoubtedly one of the tools largest Selling points, and let’s face it, most of us love a fantastic bargain.
For starters, they offer an unlimited free plan that includes All features (including premium) to get up to 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding in your emails using this program, it is still an amazing option for anyone starting out.
And what about the premium plans?
It turns out, at around half of the Price of the rivalry generally, MailerLite is undoubtedly among the cheapest options available on the industry. Additionally, if you’re willing to pay yearly, you are also able to get a much better discount.
In fact, I haven’t been able to locate anything that does the Exact Same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is among those few email marketing tools The (very crowded) sector in the last couple of decades, which is no easy feat.
While it’s not as quickly as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it works exceptionally well at virtually anything you can throw at it.
All in all, I find MailerLite strikes the best balance Between flexibility, simplicity and speed, and all at a price point you will seriously struggle to beat.
