MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like many online businesses today, email marketing has been Dominated by the identical big players for the previous decade. Which means they get promoted very heavily and accomplish a lot of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the marketplace, causing long-time customers to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done exactly that.

Like most email marketing providers these days, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the program.
When you first register, you’ll be asked to complete your profile.
This includes information such as your company name, website, Industry, address, company size, list size and even the type of material you intend to send.
Then, you need to confirm your Website (or domain ).
This is still part of this acceptance process, and MailerLite will Simply ask which email is related to this domain in order that they can email you a confirmation link.
Once you’ve completed those Measures, you ought to wait it out.
The MailerLite team will review your application, check your Site, and determine whether you are a good match for their service.
(In other words, they are making sure you’re not a spammer/scammer)
As revealed above, you’ll nevertheless be Able to use the software to make campaigns and play with the attributes, but you will not be able to send anything before accepted.
I was”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limitation of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
But while these steps are not perfect for getting started, it Does help prevent malicious users from hurting everyone else’s deliverability.
If you are anything like me, you’ll rely on automations to Deal with Nearly all your email advertising.
(We’ll get to automations shortly, don’t worry.)
But if it is a new blog article, podcast, or timely Announcement, there’s always a reason to send a more instant email.
That’s where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the brand new’Produce Campaign’ will give you several choices.
– Regular campaign: A Conventional broadcast email.
– A/B split campaign: Multiple email Variations, including subject line, from name and, yes, even content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to subscribers who Do not open your broadcast email, with the choice of altering the subject line and email articles.
– RSS campaign: Produce a recurring campaign That sends fresh content to subscribers using your website’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few additional options, most of these will follow The exact same step-by-step process of a normal effort.
So let’s walk you through it.
As Soon as You click on to create your effort, you’ll be requested to Pick a favorite editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
Otherwise, you can switch to the Templates tab and select from one of the pre-designed email templates — which will move you to the dragn’ drop editor by default.
In the time of writing, you’ll find 21 email templates to choose From which is a little on the low side, but the layouts are super contemporary.
And, of course, if you’d just Prefer to reuse a previous email, you can click on the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this example, I’ll choose the first template in the library.
The editor is easy to use, Making customizing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also utilize the cubes in the sidebar to include different Types of articles to your email, including videos, merchandise columns, and social connections.
After making your adjustments, simply click’Done Editing’ and you will Be carried to the recipients’ options where you can choose your groups or segments.
The advanced tab also allows you To develop segment-like rules , in the event your targeting isn’t quite perfect.
Finally, before sending, you’ll get into the’Schedule’ screen.
This is where you control when your broadcast email should go Out, whether that’s instantly, at a set time/date, or according to your subscribers time zones.
Impressive, right? Mailerlite Troubleshooting
Handling Your Subscribers
Possessing granular control over your readers is arguably among The most important facets of any email advertising software now.
Because highly personalized campaigns are necessary if You’re looking to increase opens, clicks, and, above all, your own conversions.
And while many providers allow you to”tag” readers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite uses a slightly different strategy.
When you open up your subscriber dashboard, you’ll see two Choices; Segments and Groups.
Segments are essentially rules.
Your subscribers belong to a section only when they fulfill the Specified principles, and are automatically added or removed so.
Here is what establishing a rule looks like:
Notice the way you can also combine Rules, as well as another rule if the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The next tab is for classes, and also the difference in name, These act much like your normal”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the title to’Tags’, but finally decided against it.)
Unlike Segments, Groups are updated manually or through an Automation rule — which we’ll get to in a moment — and they don’t have any value aside from what you call them.
As you start to use this platform, you’ll begin to understand Where Segments and Groups are typically used, however, MailerLite delivers a hand in case you’re uncertain:
Basically, groups are more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber foundation, whereas Segments permit you to lump multiple subscribers together according to a common denominator.
A tad confusing, I will admit… but I believe it is a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. Besides, they are optional.
Finally, the’Fields’ tab is used to customize your email copy.
You will notice that MailerLite has Already populated this region with their own fields, such as name, business, and country.
If You Would like to create your own custom fields, you can do this by Clicking the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your subscribers together with Your custom field data in separate columns… or can easily add these fields to your types which will only apply to future readers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test field I made and added into a form:
I will not go too much into the shape Stuff here because I have a whole section on that below, but this is the strategy I would recommend if you wished to use this feature.
Again, as Soon as You’ve collected your custom field information from fresh Subscribers, you can pull them into your email content and subject line.
Just click on the’Personalization’ drop down and select your Customized field.
I’m barely scratching the surface Of what is possible with custom fields, but it is important that you understand that this is a feature you may use.
Overall, it’s fair to say MailerLite has their subscriber Management and personalization features on stage. Mailerlite Troubleshooting
If you are not impressed by what you have seen so far, then maybe The page builder will tickle your fancy.
After selecting’Landing Pages’ in the forms page, you will be Able to select from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template selection Is not winning any awards, it will offer a fantastic base to work from if, for example the majority people, you do not have that natural eye for design.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, though They all finally do the same task; accumulate an email address.
This time, the editor will Provide you 17 building blocks to Further construct or alter your landing page.
Now, I’ve used my fair share of Visual page builders, and it is better than some dedicated alternatives *Infection * WPBakery.
Along with the basic building blocks, you can use components like Hero segments, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
It will not be replacing landing Page builders such as Thrive Architect or even LeadPagesanytime shortly, but credit where credit due, this item over-delivers on all 3 form types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email advertising tools, MailerLite really Provides a Adequate pair of form building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this exact same interface, so there is a lot to cover here.
Let us begin with your Bog-standard embedded type.
These forms are created inside MailerLite so as to get An embed code, which you can then place on your site to show it on particular pages.
Despite beginning super basic, the form designer lets you To personalize everything in the form style, subjects, background, name, input fields and, of course, the button.
Form text can also be edited directly, which Provides you a Opportunity To visualize your copy in real time.
It would have been nice to have Some templates here, but as you know, there is more to a form than simply its physical appearance.
Clicking the’Settings’ tab will allow you to configure how the Form functions, such as adding additional fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There’s a GDPR compliance alternative. Sweet.)
And speaking of the success page…
…MailerLite also enables you to customize the default message, Which can replace the embedded form and prevents users from redirecting.
Last but surely not least, you Can assess how your form screens on cellular by shifting the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t be able to make any layout changes here, but it makes Sense to check, nevertheless.
So that’s an Summary of this Embedded form but as I said before, you can also create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the majority of the setup process is identical, there are A few differences I’d like to point out.
Unlike embedded forms, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most Comprehensive selection, they do offer a fantastic base to work from and the editor is at least as simple to use with this form type.
Clicking on the’E-commerce’ template takes me into a preview Before moving into the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are a few new choices under form types Now around:
Considering paid tools such as Thrive Leads exist for ribbons and slide-in forms, it is pretty impressive to see this amount of control over popup types.
And, as before, you can perform with the styling options to get it Matched with your branding.
Finally, you can Select the close Behaviour of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is the X icon, but you can swap this out for A”No thanks” text choice, or have both.
This is really where most email Marketing platforms will render you, but MailerLite has yet another trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like most tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Statistics in the dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click data, Subscriber growth, automation analytics, and kind signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you specific coverage for that effort.
This is where you’ll discover some more advanced statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying environment, email client and much more.
This should be plenty of Information for the ordinary consumer…
…but if you really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into individual areas of this report for a more detailed breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.
By Way of Example, the’View Mail’ tab also shows a click map, so It’s possible to see precisely how your readers interacted to another.
Reports for automations will also be Accessible under the’Automations’ tab, although I found to be less insightful than effort reports.
Here’s a quick example:
Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting interface, and most will find the available data more than enough to meet their demands.
What’s email marketing with no dashboard of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could easily make or break this review.
The good news? If you’ve ever used a visual workflow builder, You will immediately feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, That the automations interface is easy, clean and easy to navigate — something which certainly can not be said for every email advertising program.
After establishing your trigger, you can begin adding steps to your workflow.
These steps can be anything from sending an email, adding a Delay, a conditional split, or an act, such as moving a contributor or updating their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I set together, where subscribers Are unsubscribed if they do not open my email within 7 days.
There are innumerable Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite ought to have no trouble with the vast majority of use cases.
Granted, it is not quite as Feature-rich as something such as ActiveCampaign since it lacks a number of the conditional components. (Split, Go To, Goal, etc.. )
For Instance, there’s currently no automation for moving Subscribers directly into another automation.
That being said, most of these actions can Nevertheless Be achieved by moving Subscribers into various classes that trigger new automation workflows. It is just not as efficient…. yet.
Another matter of efficiency here is when generating new emails In the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email block to The workflow, you will be asked to put in your topic line that appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking the’Design email’ button will fire up the Writer:
Now, you’ll be temporarily Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered previously in the critique.
This time, but once you’ve established your email, clicking the ‘Done editing’ button will guide you back into the automations workflow rather than the usual sending options.
Finally, your email address will probably be Loaded into your own automation.
A nice touch here is having a thumbnail preview of your Email inside your automation cube, so it’s possible to find an idea of what it contains at a glimpse.
While this process may seem like A grind on paper, it is really much faster than what I’m utilized to with other email advertising tools — ActiveCampaign being a great example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something such as ConvertKit where The editor is loaded inside the automations builder, so you will probably find that this downgrade in functionality.
It’s fast enough for me, Personally, but I guess it is all relative.
Before I wrap up this section, there is one Kind of automation You will not find in MailerLite, and that I think it’s important to highlight.
The ability to activate an automation (or measure ) based on how Subscribers interact with the webpages on your website.
This kind of behavioral targeting just isn’t available in MailerLite at this time, so if it’s something you use or plan to utilize, you might want to skip this one. Mailerlite Troubleshooting
The cost of MailerLite is no doubt among those tools largest Selling things, and let us face it, we all love a fantastic bargain.
For starters, they offer an infinite free plan that includes All features (including premium) to get as many as 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding in your mails using this plan, it’s still an wonderful alternative for those starting out.
And what about the premium plans?
It ends up, at around half of the Cost of the rivalry on average, MailerLite is by far one of the cheapest options available on the market. Plus, if you’re willing to pay annually, you are also able to get a much greater discount.
In Reality, I have not been able to find anything that does the Exact Same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is among the few advertising tools to disrupt The (very crowded) sector in recent years, and that’s no simple feat.
While it is not as quickly as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it works exceptionally well at virtually anything you can throw at it.
I find MailerLite strikes the best balance Between flexibility, speed and simplicity, and at a price point you will seriously struggle to conquer.
Thinking of giving it a spin? Let us know how it works for you From the remarks. Mailerlite Troubleshooting
