Like many online businesses now, email advertising has been Dominated by the same big players for the last ten years. Which means that they get encouraged very deeply and achieve a lot of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the marketplace, causing long-time users to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done precisely that.
So now, in this review, I’ll be tearing MailerLite from limb To limb to find out if it stands its own ground against the big boys…
…and, more importantly, whether youshould consider making the switch.

Like most email advertising providers these days, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the software.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to finish your profile.
This includes information like your organization name, site, Business, address, business size, list size and even the type of material you plan to send.
Then, you need to confirm your Website (or domain name).
This is still part of the approval process, and MailerLite will Simply ask which email is related to this domain in order that they can email you a verification link.
Once you’ve completed those Steps, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite team will review your application, assess your Website, and determine whether you’re a good fit for their service.
(In other words, they’re making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)

The following tab is for classes, and despite the difference in name, These act much like your normal”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the title to’Tags’, but finally decided against it)
Contrary to Segments, Groups are updated manually or through an Automation rule — which we’ll get into in a moment — and they don’t have any value aside from what you call them.
As you start to use this stage, you’ll begin to understand Where Segments and Groups are typically used, but MailerLite offers a hand in the event you’re uncertain:
Basically, groups are more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber foundation, whereas Segments allow you to lump multiple contributors collectively based on a frequent denominator.
A tad confusing, I’ll admit… but I feel it’s a fair trade-off For the additional flexibility. In any case, they’re discretionary.
Last, the’Fields’ tab is used to customize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this area with their own fields, such as title, business, and country.
If You Would like to create your own custom fields, you can do this by Clicking the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV file of your subscribers together with Your custom field information in distinct columns… or may simply add these fields to a forms which will only apply to future subscribers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test area I made and added to a form:
I won’t go too much to the form Things here because I have a whole section on this below, but this is the strategy I’d recommend if you wished to use this attribute.
Again, once you’ve gathered your custom field information from fresh Readers, you can pull them into your email content and subject line.
Just click on the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Custom field.
I’m barely scratching the surface Of what is possible with custom fields, but it is important to know this is a feature you may use.

If you’re not impressed with what you’ve seen up to Now, then perhaps The page builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ from the forms page, you will be Able to pick from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template choice Is not winning any awards, it does offer a great foundation to work from if, like the majority of us, you do not have that natural eye for design.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, however They finally do the same job; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will give you 17 building blocks to Further build or change your landing page.
Now, I’ve used my fair share of Visual page builders, and it is already better than some dedicated alternatives *cough* WPBakery.
Together with the basic building blocks, you can use elements like Hero segments, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
It will not be replacing landing Page builders like Thrive Architect or LeadPagesanytime soon, but credit where credit due, this thing over-delivers on all three form types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email marketing tools, MailerLite really offers a Decent set of form building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this exact same interface, so there’s a whole lot to cover here.
Let’s begin with your Bog-standard embedded type.
These forms are created inside MailerLite in order to get An embed code, which you can then put on your site to show it on particular pages.
Despite beginning super fundamental, the form designer lets you To personalize everything in the kind style, subjects, background, title, enter fields and, of course, the button.

Unlike embedded forms, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most Comprehensive choice, they do provide a good base to work from and the editor is just as simple to use with this form kind.
Clicking the’E-commerce’ template requires me to a preview Before moving into the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are some new options under form types This time around:
Contemplating paid programs such as Thrive Leads exist for both ribbons and slide-in forms, it’s pretty impressive to observe this amount of control over popup forms.
And, like before, you can perform the styling options to get it Matched with your branding.
Last, you can Select the close Behaviour of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is the X icon, but you can swap this out for A”No thanks” text option, or have both.
That is where most email Marketing platforms will leave you, but MailerLite has one more trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your effort Statistics in the dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click data, Subscriber development, automation analytics, and kind signups.
Clicking into any effort will Give you specific reporting for that campaign.
This is where you’ll discover a few more advanced statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, reading environment, email client and much more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average consumer…
…but if you really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into different areas of the report for a more detailed breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.
For example, the’View Mail’ tab also shows a click map, so It’s possible to see your readers interacted with your mails compared to another.
Reports for automations are also Available under the’Automations’ tab, although I found to be less enlightening than effort reports.

Total, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting interface, and most will get the available data more than enough to meet their demands.
What’s email advertising with no dash of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could simply make or break this review.
The great news? If you have ever used a visual workflow builder, You’ll immediately feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, The automations interface is simple, clean and easy to navigate — something that certainly can’t be said for each and every email advertising program.
After establishing your trigger, you can begin adding measures to your workflow.
These measures can be anything from sending an email, adding a Delay, a conditional split, or an action, like moving a contributor or updating their records.
Here’s a straightforward workflow I set together, where subscribers Are unsubscribed if they don’t open my email within 7 days.
There are innumerable Possibilities in regards to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite should not have any trouble with the vast majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something such as ActiveCampaign because it lacks some of the conditional elements. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.. )
For Instance, there’s currently no automation for transferring Readers directly into a different automation.
That being said, most of these activities can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into various groups that trigger new automation workflows. It’s just much less effective…. yet.
Another matter of efficiency here is when generating new emails From the automation workflow builder.
After having an email cube to The workflow, you will be asked to put in your topic line that then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking on the’Design email’ button will automatically fire up the Editor:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered earlier in the review.
This time, but as Soon as You’ve established your email, clicking on the ‘Done editing’ button will direct you straight back into the automations workflow instead of the usual sending options.
Ultimately, your email will probably be Loaded into your own automation.
A nice touch here is using a thumbnail preview of your Email inside your automation cube, so you can get an idea of what it contains at a glimpse.
While this process may seem like A grind on newspaper, it is really much quicker than what I’m used to with other email marketing tools — ActiveCampaign being a great example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something like ConvertKit where The editor is loaded within the automations builder, you will likely find this a downgrade in functionality.
It is fast enough for me, Personally, but I guess it is all relative.
Before I wrap up this segment, there is 1 type of automation You won’t find in MailerLite, also that I think that it’s important to highlight.
The ability to activate an automation (or measure ) based on the way Readers interact with the pages on your website.
This Sort of behavioral targeting only isn’t accessible MailerLite right now, so if it’s something you use or intend to utilize, you might want to skip this one. Mailerlite Update

I find MailerLite strikes the perfect balance Between flexibility, simplicity and speed, and all at a price point you’ll seriously struggle to beat.
