Like many online industries today, email advertising has been Dominated by the same big players for the last decade. Which means they get promoted very heavily and achieve a great deal of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the marketplace, causing long-time customers to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done exactly that.
So now, in this review, I will be tearing MailerLite from limb To limb to find out if it really stands its ground against the big boys…
…and, more importantly, whether youshould consider making the change.

Like most email marketing providers Nowadays, You’ll Need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the program.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to finish your profile.
This includes information like your company name, site, Industry, address, company size, list size and even the kind of content you plan to send.
Then, you need to confirm your Website (or domain name).
This is still part of the acceptance process, and MailerLite will Simply ask which email is associated to that domain in order that they can email you a confirmation link.
Once you’ve completed those Steps, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite team will review your application, check your Website, and ascertain whether you’re a good match for their service.
(Quite simply, they’re making sure you’re not a spammer/scammer)
As shown above, you’ll still be Able to utilize the software to make campaigns and play with the attributes, but you will not have the ability to send anything before accepted.

Handling Your Subscribers
Having granular control over your readers is arguably among The most essential facets of any email advertising software today.
Because highly personalized campaigns are necessary if You’re searching to increase opens, clicks, and, above all, your own conversions.
And while most providers allow you to”label” readers in order To target them more effectively, MailerLite uses a slightly different approach.
When you start up your subscriber dashboard, you’ll notice two Choices; Segments and Groups.
Segments are basically principles.
Your subscribers belong to a section only when they meet the Specified principles, and will be automatically added or eliminated accordingly.
Here’s what setting up a rule looks like:
Notice how you can even blend Principles, in addition to an alternate rule if the first doesn’t exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The next tab is for groups, and despite the difference in title, These act much like your normal”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the name to’Tags’, but finally decided against it.)
Unlike Segments, Groups are upgraded manually or via an Automation principle — that we’ll get to in a moment — and they don’t have any value aside from what you actually call them.
As you Begin to use this stage, you’ll begin to understand At which Segments and Groups are typically used, however, MailerLite offers a hand in the event you’re unsure:
Fundamentally, groups are much more of a Deliberate action on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments allow you to bulge multiple subscribers collectively based on a frequent denominator.
A tad confusing, I’ll admit… but I feel it is a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. Besides, they’re discretionary.
Finally, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this region with their own areas, such as name, business, and nation.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do this by Clicking the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV file of your readers together with Your custom field information in separate columns… or may simply add these fields to your types which will only apply to future readers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test area I made and added to a form:
I won’t go too much to the form Things here since I have a whole section on this below, but this is the strategy I would recommend if you wished to use this feature.
Again, once you’ve gathered your custom field information from fresh Readers, you are able to pull them into your email content and subject line.
Just click on the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Customized field.
I’m barely scraping the surface Of what is possible with custom fields, but it is important that you understand this is a feature you may use.

If you’re not impressed with what you’ve seen so far, then perhaps The page builder will tickle your fancy.

Again, while the template selection Is not winning any awards, but it does offer a great foundation to work from if, like most people, you don’t have that natural eye for design.
I went ahead and selected the’Lead Generation’ template, however They finally do the same task; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will Provide you 17 building blocks to Further build or change your landing page.
Now, I have used my fair share of Visual site builders, and this is better than a few dedicated solutions *Infection * WPBakery.
Together with the fundamental building blocks, you can use elements like Hero segments, popup buttons, reviews and countdown timers.
No, it will not be replacing landing Page builders like Thrive Architect or LeadPagesanytime soon, but credit where credit due, this item over-delivers on all 3 kind types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email advertising tools, MailerLite actually Provides a Decent pair of form building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this exact same interface, so there’s a lot to cover here.
Let us start with your Bog-standard embedded form.
These forms are first created inside MailerLite so as to get An embed code, which you can then put on your site to show it on particular pages.
Despite beginning super fundamental, the form designer lets you To customize everything in the form style, fields, background, title, enter fields and, clearly, the button.

That is really where most email Marketing platforms will render you, but MailerLite has one more trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your effort Data in the dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from campaign open and click data, Subscriber growth, automation analytics, and kind signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you specific reporting for this effort.
This is where you’ll discover some statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, reading environment, email client and more.
This should be plenty of Information for the ordinary user…
…but if you really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into different areas of the report to get a more comprehensive breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.
By Way of Example, the’View Email’ tab also displays a click map, so It’s possible to see your readers interacted to one another.
Reports for automations are also Available under the’Automations’ tab, even though I found to be less enlightening than effort reports.

Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting port, and most will get the available statistics more than sufficient to fulfill their demands.
What’s email advertising with no dash of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could simply make or break this review.
The great news? If you have ever used a visual workflow builder, then You’ll immediately feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, The automations interface is simple, clean and easy to navigate — something that certainly can not be said for each and every email advertising program.
After establishing your trigger, you can begin adding steps to your workflow.
These measures could be anything from sending an email, adding a Delay, a conditional split, or an action, such as transferring a subscriber or updating their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I set together, where readers Are unsubscribed if they don’t open my email within seven days.
There are countless Possibilities in regards to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite should not have any trouble with the vast majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign because it lacks a number of the conditional components. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.. )
For example, there’s now no automation for moving Subscribers directly into another automation.
That being said, most of these activities can Nevertheless Be achieved by moving Subscribers into different groups that activate new automation workflows. It is just much less efficient…. yet.
Another matter of efficiency here is when creating new mails In the automation workflow builder.
After having an email cube to The workflow, you will be asked to add your subject line that appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking on the’Design email’ button will fire up the Writer:
Now, you’ll be temporarily Redirected to the standard campaign creation wizard, which I covered earlier in the review.
This time, however, as Soon as You’ve created your email, clicking on the ‘Done editing’ button will guide you straight back to the automations workflow rather than the usual sending alternatives.
Ultimately, your email will probably be Loaded into your own automation.
A nice touch here is having a thumbnail preview of your Email inside your automation cube, so you can find an idea about what it contains at a glimpse.
While this process may seem like A grind on paper, it is really much faster than what I am used to with other email advertising tools — ActiveCampaign being a fantastic example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something like ConvertKit where The editor is loaded inside the automations builder, so you will probably find this a downgrade in performance.
It is fast enough for me, Personally, however I guess it is all relative.
Before I wrap up this segment, there is 1 type of automation You will not find in MailerLite, and that I think it’s important to highlight.
The ability to activate an automation (or step) based on how Readers interact with all the webpages on your site.
This kind of behavioral targeting only isn’t available in MailerLite at this time, so if it’s something you use or intend to use, you may want to skip this one. Mailerlite Workflow
The Price of MailerLite is one of the tools biggest Selling points, and let us face it, most of us love a good bargain.
For starters, they offer an infinite free plan that includes All attributes (including premium) for as many as 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding on your mails using this program, it’s still an wonderful alternative for anyone starting out.
And what about the top plans?
It ends up, at around half of the Cost of the rivalry on average, MailerLite is undoubtedly among the least expensive options on the industry. Plus, if you are ready to pay yearly, you are also able to get a much greater discount.
In fact, I have not been able to locate anything that does exactly the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is one of the few advertising tools The (very crowded) sector in recent years, and that’s no simple feat.
While it’s not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it works exceptionally well at virtually anything you can throw at it.
I find MailerLite strikes the best balance Between flexibility, speed and simplicity, and at a price point you will seriously struggle to conquer.
