Background Mike Dillard Email Marketing
When I asked you to name an email Marketing instrument, what would you say? Mike Dillard Email Marketing
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like many online businesses today, email marketing has been Dominated by the identical big players for the last ten years. Which means they get encouraged very deeply and accomplish a lot of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the market, causing long-time customers to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done precisely that.
So now, in this review, I’ll be ripping MailerLite from limb To limb to find out if it stands its own ground against the big boys…

Like most email advertising providers these days, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the program.
When you first register, you’ll be asked to finish your profile.
This includes information like your organization name, site, Business, address, company size, list size and also the type of material you plan to send.
Then, You Have to verify your Website (or domain name).
This remains part of the approval process, and MailerLite will Simply inquire which email is related to this domain in order that they can email you a verification link.
Once you’ve completed those Steps, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite staff will review your application, assess your Website, and determine whether you are a good fit for their services.
(Quite simply, they’re making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)
As revealed above, you’ll still be Able to use the software to create campaigns and perform with the features, but you will not have the ability to send anything before approved.
I was”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limit of 500 subscribers.
Here Is What the email said:
But while these measures aren’t ideal for getting started, it Does help stop malicious users from hurting everybody’s deliverability.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll rely upon automations to handle The majority of your email marketing.
(We’ll get to automations shortly, don’t worry.)
But whether it’s a brand new blog article, podcast, or timely Announcement, there’s always a reason to send a more immediate email.
That is where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the new’Produce Campaign’ will provide you several choices.
– Regular effort: A traditional broadcast email.
– A/B split campaign: Multiple email Variations, including subject line, from name and, yes, even content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to subscribers who Do not start your broadcast email, together with the choice of altering the subject line and email articles.
– RSS effort: Produce a recurring campaign That sends new content to readers using your website’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few added choices, the Majority of these will follow The same step-by-step procedure of a standard effort.
So let us walk you through it.
As Soon as You click on to create your effort, you’ll be requested to Pick a preferred editor, whether that be the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
Otherwise, you can switch to the Templates tab and select from among their pre-designed email templates — that will move you into the dragn’ drop editor by default.
At the time of writing, you’ll find 21 email templates to choose From which is somewhat on the low side, but the layouts are super modern.
And, of course, if you’d just Like to reuse a previous email, you can click on the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this example, I will select the first template in the library.
The editor is easy to work with, Which makes customizing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also utilize the blocks in the sidebar to include different Kinds of content to your email, such as videos, product columns, and social connections.
After making your adjustments, just click’Done Editing’ and you’ll Be taken to the recipients’ choices where you can select your classes or sections.
The tab also allows you To build segment-like rules , in case your targeting isn’t quite perfect.
Finally, before sending, then you’ll get to the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control when your broadcast email should go Out, whether that’s instantly, at a set time/date, or according to your subscribers time zones.
Impressive, right? Mike Dillard Email Marketing
Handling Your Clients
Possessing granular control over your readers is arguably among The most essential aspects of any email marketing program now.
Because highly personalized efforts are necessary if You’re looking to increase opens, clicks, and, most importantly, your own conversions.
And while many providers Permit You to”label” subscribers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite utilizes a slightly different strategy.
When you open up your subscriber dashboard, you’ll notice two Choices; Segments and Groups.
Segments are basically rules.
Your readers belong to a segment only when they meet the Specified principles, and are automatically inserted or eliminated so.
Here’s what establishing a rule looks like:
Notice the way you can even combine Rules, in addition to another rule when the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The following tab is for classes, and also the difference in title, These act much like your normal”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the name to’Tags’, but finally decided against it)
Contrary to Segments, Groups are updated manually or through an Automation principle — that we’ll get into in a moment — and they have no value besides what you actually call them.
As you Begin to use this stage, you’ll Start to understand At which Segments and Groups are typically used, however, MailerLite offers a hand in case you’re uncertain:
Fundamentally, groups are much more of a Deliberate action on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments allow you to lump multiple subscribers together according to a common denominator.
A tad confusing, I’ll admit… but I feel it’s a fair trade-off For the additional flexibility. In any case, they’re discretionary.
Last, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You will notice that MailerLite has Already populated this region with their particular areas, such as title, business, and country.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do so by Clicking on the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your subscribers together with Your custom field information in distinct columns… or may simply add these fields to a forms which will only apply to prospective readers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test area I created and added to a form:
I won’t go too much to the form Things here because I have a whole section on this below, but this is the strategy I would recommend if you wanted to use this attribute.
Again, once you’ve gathered your custom field information from fresh Readers, you can pull them into your email content and subject line.
Just click on the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Customized field.
I’m barely scraping the surface Of what’s possible with custom fields, but it is important to know this is a feature you can use.
Overall, it is reasonable to state MailerLite has their subscriber Management and personalization features on stage. Mike Dillard Email Marketing
If you’re not impressed with what you have seen up to Now, then perhaps The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After selecting’Landing Pages’ from the forms page, you will be Able to select from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template choice Is not winning any awards, but it will offer a fantastic base to work from if, like the majority of us, you don’t have that pure eye for design.
I went ahead and selected the’Lead Generation’ template, though They finally do the identical job; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will give you 17 building blocks to Further construct or change your landing page.
Now, I’ve used my fair share of Visual site builders, and it is already better than a few dedicated solutions *cough* WPBakery.
Along with the basic building blocks, you can use components like Hero sections, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
No, it won’t be replacing landing Page builders such as Thrive Architect or LeadPagesanytime soon, but credit where credit due, this thing over-delivers on all three kind types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email advertising tools, MailerLite actually Provides a Adequate set of type building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this exact same interface, so there is a lot to cover .
Let us start with your Bog-standard embedded type.
These forms are created inside MailerLite in order to get An embed code, which you can then place on your website to display it on specific pages.
Despite starting off super fundamental, the form designer allows you To customize everything from the form style, fields, background, title, enter fields and, clearly, the button.
Form text may also be edited directly, which Provides you a chance To envision your own backup in real time.
It would’ve been nice to have Some templates, but as you know, there’s more to some form than just its appearance.
Clicking the’Settings’ tab will Make It Possible for you to configure how the Form functions, such as adding additional fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There’s even a GDPR compliance alternative. Sweet.)
And speaking of the success page…
…MailerLite also enables you to customize the default message, Which will replace the embedded kind and prevents users from redirecting.
Last but certainly not least, you Can assess the way your form displays on cellular by switching the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t be able to make any layout changes here, but it makes Sense to check, nevertheless.
So that’s an Summary of this Embedded form but like I said before, you can also create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the majority of this installation process is identical, you will find A few differences I’d like to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most In depth selection, they do offer a fantastic base to work from and the editor is at least as easy to use for this form type.
Clicking on the’E-commerce’ template requires me into a preview Before moving to the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are a few new options under form types Now around:
Considering paid tools such as Thrive Leads exist for ribbons and slide-in forms, it is pretty impressive to observe this level of control over popup forms.
And, like before, you can perform with the styling options to get it Matched with your branding.
Last, you can choose the near Behavior of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is the X icon, but you can swap out this for A”No thanks” text option, or have both.
This is where most email Marketing platforms will render you, but MailerLite has one more trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like most tools, you’ll find a summary of your effort Statistics in the main dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from campaign open and click data, Subscriber growth, automation analytics, and form signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you special coverage for that effort.
This is where you’ll find some statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, reading surroundings, email client and more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average consumer…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, it is possible to click into different areas of this report to get a more detailed breakdown.
You can find some real gems under These reports.
For example, the’View Mail’ tab also shows a click map, so It’s possible to see your readers interacted to another.
Reports for automations will also be Available under the’Automations’ tab, though I found these to be less enlightening than effort reports.
Here’s a quick example:
Total, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting interface, and many will find the available statistics more than enough to fulfill their demands.
What’s email advertising with no dashboard of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could simply make or break this review.
The great news? If you’ve used a visual workflow builder, then You will immediately feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, That the automations interface is easy, clean and simple to navigate — something which certainly can’t be said for every email marketing software.
After setting your trigger, you can begin adding steps to your workflow.
These measures can be anything from sending an email, including a Delay, a conditional split, or an act, such as transferring a subscriber or updating their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I set together, where subscribers Are unsubscribed when they don’t open my email within 7 days.
There are innumerable Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations similar to this, and MailerLite should have no trouble with the vast majority of use cases.
Granted, it is not quite as Feature-rich as something such as ActiveCampaign because it lacks a number of the conditional components. (Split, Go To, Goal, etc.)
For Instance, there’s now no automation for moving Readers directly into another automation.
That being said, the Majority of these activities can Nevertheless Be achieved by moving Subscribers into different groups that trigger new automation workflows. It is just much less effective…. yet.
Another question of efficiency here is when generating new emails In the automation workflow builder.
After having an email block to The workflow, you will be asked to put in your topic line that then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking the’Design email’ button will fire up the Writer:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered previously in the review.
This time, but once you’ve established your email, clicking the ‘Done editing’ button will guide you straight back into the automations workflow rather than the usual sending alternatives.
Finally, your email will be Loaded into your automation.
A nice touch here is having a thumbnail preview of your Email within your automation cube, so it’s possible to find an concept about what it contains at a glimpse.
While this procedure may seem like A grind on paper, it’s really much faster than what I am used to with other email advertising tools — ActiveCampaign being a fantastic example.
On the other hand, if you’ve come over from something such as ConvertKit where The editor is loaded inside the automations builder, you will probably find that this downgrade in performance.
It is quick enough for me, Personally, however I guess it’s all relative.
Before I wrap up this section, there’s one type of automation You will not find in MailerLite, also that I think it’s important to highlight.
The ability to activate an automation (or step) based on the way Subscribers interact with all the pages on your site.
This Sort of behavioral targeting just isn’t accessible MailerLite right now, so if it’s something you use or plan to use, you might want to skip this one. Mike Dillard Email Marketing
The cost of MailerLite is undoubtedly among the tools largest Selling points, and let us face it, most of us love a fantastic bargain.
For starters, they offer an unlimited free plan that includes All features (including premium) to get up to 1,000 subscribers.
While There’s some subtle Branding in your emails using this plan, it is still an amazing alternative for anyone starting out.
And what about the top plans?
It turns out, at approximately half the Price of this rivalry generally, MailerLite is undoubtedly one of the least expensive options on the industry. Additionally, if you’re ready to pay annually, you are also able to get a much better discount.
In fact, I have not been able to locate anything that does exactly the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is one of those few advertising tools The (very crowded) industry in recent years, which is no simple feat.
While it’s not as quickly as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it works exceptionally well at virtually anything you can throw at it.
Overall, I find MailerLite strikes the best balance Between flexibility, speed and simplicity, and at a price point you will seriously struggle to beat.
Thinking about giving it a spin? Let us know how it works for you In the remarks. Mike Dillard Email Marketing
