Like most online industries now, email advertising continues to be Dominated by the same large players for the previous decade. Which means they get promoted very heavily and achieve a lot of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the market, inducing long-time customers to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done exactly that.
So today, in this review, I will be tearing MailerLite from limb To limb to see whether it stands its own ground against the big boys…
…and, what’s more, whether youshould consider making the switch.

This remains part of this approval process, and MailerLite will Simply ask which email is associated to that domain so they could email you a confirmation link.

So let’s walk you through it.
Once you click on to create your campaign, you’ll be requested to Pick a preferred editor, whether that be the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
You can switch to the Templates tab and choose from one of the pre-designed email templates — that will move you to the dragn’ drop editor by default.
At the time of writing, you’ll find 21 email templates to choose From which is somewhat on the low side, however, the layouts are super contemporary.
And, of course, if you’d just Prefer to reuse a previous email, you can click the’Recent Emails’ tab.

Managing Your Clients

Your subscribers belong to a segment only when they fulfill the Specified rules, and will be automatically added or eliminated accordingly.

The next tab is for classes, and also the difference in name, These behave much like your normal”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the name to’Tags’, but finally decided against it.)
Unlike Segments, Groups are updated manually or via an Automation rule — that we will get to in a minute — and they have no value besides what you call them.
As you Begin to use this stage, you’ll begin to understand At which Segments and Groups are typically used, but MailerLite offers a hand in case you’re uncertain:
Fundamentally, groups are much more of a Deliberate action on a per-subscriber foundation, whereas Segments allow you to bulge multiple subscribers together based on a frequent denominator.
Somewhat confusing, I’ll admit… but I feel it is a fair trade-off For the additional flexibility. Besides, they’re discretionary.
Finally, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You will notice that MailerLite has Already populated this region with their particular areas, such as title, company, and nation.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do so by Clicking the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they actually work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your readers together with Your custom field data in distinct columns… or may easily add these fields to a types which will only apply to prospective readers.

I will not go too much into the shape Things here because I have an entire section on this below, but this is the approach I’d recommend if you wished to use this attribute.

If you’re not impressed by what you have seen so far, then maybe The page builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ in the forms page, then you’ll be Able to select from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template selection Isn’t winning any awards, but it will offer a fantastic foundation to work from if, like the majority of us, you do not have that natural eye for layout.
I went ahead and selected the’Lead Generation’ template, though They all finally do the identical task; accumulate an email address.
This time, the editor will give you 17 building blocks to Further build or alter your landing page.
Now, I’ve used my fair share of Visual site builders, and this is already better than a few dedicated alternatives *Infection * WPBakery.

Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email marketing tools, MailerLite actually offers a Adequate set of form building tools.

Let’s begin with your Bog-standard embedded type.

This is really where most email Marketing platforms will leave you, but MailerLite has one more trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your effort Statistics in the dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click data, Subscriber development, automation analytics, and form signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you special reporting for that campaign.
This is where you’ll find some statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, reading environment, email client and more.
This should be plenty of Information for the ordinary consumer…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into different areas of this report for a more detailed breakdown.
You can find some real gems under These reports.
For example, the’View Mail’ tab also shows a click map, so You can see your subscribers interacted with your mails compared to one another.
Reports for automations are also Available under the’Automations’ tab, though I found these to be less insightful than effort reports.

Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting port, and many will find the available data more than sufficient to meet their demands.
What’s email advertising without a dashboard of automation?
For many reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could simply make or break this review.
The great news? If you have used a visual workflow builder, You will instantly feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, The automations interface is easy, clean and simple to navigate — something that certainly can’t be said for every email advertising program.
After setting your trigger, you can begin adding steps to your workflow.
These steps could be anything from sending an email, including a Postpone, a conditional split, or an act, such as transferring a contributor or upgrading their records.
Here’s a straightforward workflow I put together, where subscribers Are unsubscribed when they do not open my email within 7 days.
There are countless Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite should have no trouble with the huge majority of use cases.
Granted, it is not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign since it lacks a number of the conditional components. (Split, Go To, Goal, etc.. )
For example, there’s now no automation for moving Subscribers directly into a different automation.
That being said, the Majority of these actions can Nevertheless Be achieved by moving Subscribers into different classes that trigger new automation workflows. It is just not as efficient…. yet.
Another matter of efficacy here is when generating new mails From the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email cube to The workflow, you’ll be asked to add your topic line which then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking on the’Design email’ button will fire up the Writer:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered earlier in the critique.
This time, however, as Soon as You’ve established your email, clicking the ‘Done editing’ button will direct you back to the automations workflow instead of the usual sending options.
Finally, your email address will probably be Loaded into your automation.
A Wonderful touch here is using a thumbnail preview of your Email within your automation cube, so you can find an idea about what it contains at a glimpse.
While this process may seem like A grind on paper, it is really much quicker than what I am used to with other email marketing tools — ActiveCampaign being a great example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something such as ConvertKit where The editor is loaded inside the automations builder, so you’ll probably find this a downgrade in performance.
It’s quick enough for me, Personally, but I guess it is all relative.
Before I wrap up this section, there is one type of automation You will not find in MailerLite, also I think that it’s important to highlight.
The ability to activate an automation (or measure ) based on how Subscribers interact with the pages on your site.
This kind of behavioral targeting only is not available in MailerLite right now, so if it’s something you use or plan to use, you might want to skip this one. Miller Lite Logo
The cost of MailerLite is among those tools largest Selling points, and let’s face it, we all love a fantastic bargain.
For starters, they offer an unlimited free plan that includes All attributes (including premium) to get up to 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding in your emails using this plan, it is still an wonderful option for those starting out.
And what about the premium programs?
It ends up, at approximately half of the Price of this competition on average, MailerLite is by far one of the least expensive options available on the market. Plus, if you are ready to pay yearly, you are also able to get an even better discount.
In fact, I haven’t been able to locate anything that does the Exact Same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is one of those email marketing tools The (very crowded) sector in recent years, which is no easy feat.
While it’s not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it works exceptionally well at virtually anything you can throw at it.
All in all, I find MailerLite strikes the best balance Between flexibility, speed and simplicity, and at a price point you’ll seriously struggle to conquer.
