When I asked you to name an email Marketing tool, what would you say? Miller Lite Taste Challenge
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like most online businesses today, email advertising has been Dominated by the same big players for the previous decade. Which means that they get promoted very heavily and achieve a lot of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the marketplace, causing long-time users to question their loyalties.

Like most email marketing providers these days, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the program.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to complete your profile.
This includes information such as your organization name, website, Industry, address, company size, record size and even the kind of material you intend to send.
Then, you need to verify your Site (or domain ).
This remains part of the approval process, and MailerLite will Simply ask which email is associated to this domain in order that they can email you a verification link.
Once you’ve completed these Measures, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite team will review your application, assess your Site, and ascertain whether you are a good fit for their service.
(Quite simply, they are making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)
As revealed above, you’ll still be Able to use the software to create campaigns and play with the attributes, but you won’t be able to send anything before approved.
I was”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limitation of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
However, while these steps are not ideal for getting started, it Does help stop malicious users from damaging everybody’s deliverability.
If you are anything like me, you’ll rely on automations to handle Nearly all your email advertising.
(We’ll get to automations soon, don’t worry.)
But if it is a new blog article, podcast, or timely Announcement, there is always a reason to send a more immediate email.
That’s where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the brand new’Produce Campaign’ will give you several choices.
– Regular campaign: A traditional broadcast email.
– A/B split effort: Multiple email Variations, including subject line, from name and, yes, even email content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to readers who Don’t start your broadcast email, with the option of altering the subject line and email articles.
– RSS effort: Produce a recurring campaign That sends fresh content to readers using your site’s RSS feed.
Aside from a few additional choices, the Majority of these will follow Exactly the exact same step-by-step process of a standard effort.
So let us walk you through it.
As Soon as You click to create your campaign, you’ll be asked to Select a preferred editor, whether that be the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
Otherwise, you can change to the Templates tab and choose from one of the pre-designed email templates — which will move you into the dragn’ drop editor by default.
In the time of writing, there are 21 email templates to choose From which is somewhat on the low side, but the designs are super modern.
And, of course, if you would just Prefer to reuse a previous email, you can click the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this example, I’ll choose the first template in the library.
The editor is easy to use, Which makes viewing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the blocks in the sidebar to add different Kinds of articles to your email, including videos, product columns, and societal connections.
After making your adjustments, simply click’Done Editing’ and you’ll Be taken to the recipients’ options where you are able to choose your groups or sections.
The advanced tab also allows one To build segment-like rules on-the-fly, in the event your targeting is not quite perfect.
Finally, before sending, then you’ll get into the’Schedule’ screen.
This is where you control when your broadcast email should go Out, whether that is immediately, at a set time/date, or in accordance with your readers time zones.
Impressive, right? Miller Lite Taste Challenge
Managing Your Clients
Possessing granular control over your readers is arguably among The most essential aspects of any email marketing software now.
Because highly personalized efforts are necessary if You’re searching to increase clicks, opens, and, above all, your own conversions.
And while most providers allow you to”label” readers in order To target them more effectively, MailerLite utilizes a slightly different strategy.
When you start up your subscriber dash, you’ll notice two Choices; Segments and Groups.
Segments are basically principles.
Your subscribers belong to a segment only when they fulfill the Specified rules, and will be automatically inserted or eliminated accordingly.
Here’s what establishing a rule looks like:
Notice the way you can even blend Principles, as well as another rule when the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The following tab is for classes, and despite the difference in title, These behave much like your usual”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the title to’Tags’, but finally decided against it.)
Unlike Segments, Groups are updated manually or via an Automation principle — which we will get into in a moment — and they have no value aside from what you actually call them.
As you Begin to use this stage, you’ll Start to understand Where Segments and Groups are typically used, however, MailerLite delivers a hand in the event you’re unsure:
Basically, groups are much more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber foundation, whereas Segments allow you to lump multiple contributors together according to a frequent denominator.
A tad confusing, I will admit… but I feel it is a fair trade-off For the additional flexibility. Besides, they are optional.
Last, the’Fields’ tab is used to customize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this area with their own areas, such as name, company, and nation.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do this by Clicking the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your subscribers along with Your custom field information in distinct columns… or may easily add these fields to your forms which will only apply to future readers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test area I created and added into a form:
I will not go too much to the form Stuff here since I have an entire section on that below, but this is the strategy I’d recommend if you wished to use this attribute.
Again, once you’ve gathered your custom field information from fresh Subscribers, you can pull them into your email content and subject line.
Just click the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Custom field.
I’m barely scraping the surface Of what’s possible with custom fields, but it is important that you understand this is a feature you may use.
Overall, it’s fair to say MailerLite has their subscriber Direction and personalization features on stage. Miller Lite Taste Challenge
If you are not impressed with what you have seen up to Now, then maybe The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After selecting’Landing Pages’ from the forms page, you will be Able to select from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template selection Is not winning any awards, it does offer a great base to work from if, like the majority people, you do not have that natural eye for layout.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, though They ultimately do the same job; accumulate an email address.
This time, the editor will give you 17 building blocks to Further construct or alter your landing page.
Now, I’ve used my fair share of Visual page builders, and it is better than a few dedicated alternatives *Infection * WPBakery.
Together with the basic building blocks, you can use elements like Hero sections, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
It will not be replacing landing Page builders such as Thrive Architect or LeadPagesanytime soon, but credit where credit due, this item over-delivers on all three form types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email marketing tools, MailerLite actually Provides a Adequate pair of type building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this exact same interface, so there’s a whole lot to cover .
Let’s begin with your Bog-standard embedded form.
These forms are created inside MailerLite so as to get An embed code, which you can then place on your website to display it on specific pages.
Despite beginning super basic, the form designer allows you To customize everything from the kind style, fields, background, name, enter fields and, of course, the button.
Form text may also be edited directly, which gives you a chance To visualize your copy in real-time.
It would have been nice to have Some templates here, but as you know, there’s more to a form than just its physical appearance.
Clicking the’Settings’ tab will Make It Possible for you to configure how the Form works, such as adding extra fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There’s a GDPR compliance alternative. Sweet.)
And speaking of the success page…
…MailerLite also lets you customize the default message, Which will replace the embedded form and prevents users from redirecting.
Last but surely not least, you Can check how your form screens on cellular by switching the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t Have the Ability to make any layout changes here, but it makes Sense to test, nevertheless.
So that’s an Summary of this Embedded form but like I said before, you may also create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the Vast Majority of the setup Procedure is identical, you will find Still a few differences I’d like to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most In depth choice, they do provide a good base to work from and the editor is at least as simple to use with this form type.
Clicking on the’E-commerce’ template requires me into a preview Before moving to the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are a few new choices under form types Now around:
Considering paid tools like Thrive Leads exist for both ribbons and slide-in forms, it’s pretty impressive to see this level of control over popup forms.
And, as before, you can play with the styling options to get it Matched with your branding.
Finally, you can choose the near Behaviour of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is that the X icon, but you can swap this out for A”No thanks” text choice, or have both.
That is where most email Marketing platforms will leave you, but MailerLite has one more trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like most tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Statistics in the dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from campaign open and click data, Subscriber growth, automation analytics, and form signups.
Clicking into any effort will Give you specific coverage for that campaign.
This is where you’ll find a few more advanced statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying surroundings, email client and more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average consumer…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into different areas of the report for a more detailed breakdown.
You can find some real gems under These reports.
For example, the’View Mail’ tab also displays a click map, so It’s possible to see your subscribers interacted to another.
Reports for automations will also be Available under the’Automations’ tab, though I found to be less insightful than effort reports.
Here’s a Fast example:
Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting port, and many will find the available statistics more than sufficient to fulfill their demands.
What’s email advertising without a dashboard of automation?
For many reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could simply make or break this review.
The good news? If you have ever used a visual workflow builder, then You’ll immediately feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, That the automations interface is simple, clean and easy to navigate — something that certainly can not be said for every email advertising software.
After establishing your trigger, you can begin adding measures to your workflow.
These steps could be anything from sending an email, including a Postpone, a conditional split, or an act, such as moving a contributor or updating their records.
Here’s a straightforward workflow I set together, where readers Are unsubscribed when they don’t open my email within seven days.
There are countless Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations similar to this, and MailerLite should not have any trouble with the huge majority of use cases.
Granted, it is not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign because it lacks some of the conditional elements. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.. )
For example, there’s currently no automation for moving Readers directly into a different automation.
That being said, most of these activities can Nevertheless Be achieved by moving Subscribers into various classes that activate new automation workflows. It’s just not as efficient…. yet.
Another question of efficiency here is when generating new emails In the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email cube to The workflow, you will be asked to put in your subject line which appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking on the’Design email’ button will fire up the Writer:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the standard campaign creation wizard, which I covered earlier in the critique.
This time, but as Soon as You’ve created your email, clicking the ‘Done editing’ button will direct you back into the automations workflow instead of the usual sending options.
Finally, your email will probably be Loaded into your own automation.
A nice touch here is using a thumbnail preview of your Email within your automation cube, so it’s possible to get an idea about what it contains at a glance.
While this process may seem like A grind on paper, it’s really much quicker than what I’m used to with other email advertising tools — ActiveCampaign being a fantastic example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something such as ConvertKit where The editor is loaded within the automations builder, so you’ll probably find that this downgrade in performance.
It’s quick enough for me, Personally, however I guess it’s all relative.
Before I wrap up this segment, there is 1 Kind of automation You will not find in MailerLite, and I think that it’s important to highlight.
The ability to trigger an automation (or measure ) based on how Readers interact with all the webpages on your site.
This Sort of behavioral targeting just isn’t accessible MailerLite at this time, so if it’s something you use or intend to utilize, you might want to skip this one. Miller Lite Taste Challenge
The Price of MailerLite is no doubt one of the tools biggest Selling things, and let us face it, we all love a fantastic deal.
For starters, they offer an unlimited free plan that includes All attributes (including premium) to get up to 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding in your emails using this plan, it’s still an wonderful alternative for those starting out.
And what about the top plans?
It turns out, at approximately half the Cost of this competition generally, MailerLite is undoubtedly among the least expensive options available on the industry. Additionally, if you are ready to pay annually, you can also get a much greater discount.
In Reality, I haven’t been able to locate anything that does exactly the Exact Same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is among the email marketing tools to disrupt The (very crowded) industry in recent years, which is no simple feat.
While it’s not as quickly as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it performs exceptionally well at virtually anything you can throw at it.
All in all, I find MailerLite strikes the perfect balance Between flexibility, simplicity and speed, and all at a price point you’ll seriously struggle to beat.
Thinking about giving it a twist? Let us know how it works for you In the remarks. Miller Lite Taste Challenge
