Introduction Newsletter Sender
When I asked you to name an email Marketing tool, what would you say? Newsletter Sender
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like most online industries today, email marketing continues to be Dominated by the identical big players for the previous ten years. Which means that they get encouraged very deeply and achieve a great deal of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the market, causing long-time users to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done precisely that.
So today, in this review, I will be tearing MailerLite from limb To limb to find out if it stands its ground against the big boys…

Like most email marketing providers these days, You’ll Need to Go through a review process before being able to correctly use the software.
When you first register, you’ll be asked to finish your profile.
This includes information such as your organization name, website, Industry, address, company size, record size and also the type of content you plan to send.
Then, You Have to confirm your Website (or domain ).
This remains part of the approval process, and MailerLite will Simply inquire which email is related to that domain in order that they could email you a verification link.
As Soon as You’ve completed these Steps, you ought to wait it out.
The MailerLite staff will review your application, assess your Site, and ascertain whether you’re a fantastic match for their services.
(Quite simply, they are making sure you’re not a spammer/scammer)
As revealed above, you’ll nevertheless be Able to use the software to create campaigns and play with the attributes, but you won’t have the ability to send anything until accepted.
I was”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limit of 500 subscribers.
Here Is What the email said:
However, while these measures aren’t perfect for getting started, it Does help stop unscrupulous users from hurting everybody’s deliverability.
If you are anything like me, you’ll rely on automations to Deal with Nearly all your email marketing.
(We’ll get to automations shortly, don’t worry.)
But whether it is a new blog post, podcast, or timely Announcement, there is always a reason to send a more immediate email.
That’s where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the brand new’Produce Campaign’ will provide you several options.
– Regular effort: A traditional broadcast email.
– A/B split campaign: Multiple email Variations, including subject line, from name and, yes, even email content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to subscribers who Don’t start your broadcast email, with the option of changing the subject line and email articles.
– RSS campaign: Create a recurring campaign That sends fresh content to readers using your website’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few added choices, most of these will follow Exactly the same step-by-step process of a normal campaign.
So let’s walk you through it.
Once you click to create your campaign, you’ll be asked to Pick a favorite editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
You can change to the Templates tab and choose from one of their pre-designed email templates — that will move you into the dragn’ drop editor .
In the time of writing, there are 21 email templates to choose From which is a little on the low side, however, the designs are super contemporary.
And, of course, if you would just Prefer to reuse a previous email, you can click on the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this instance, I’ll choose the first template in the library.
The editor is easy to work with, Which makes viewing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also utilize the cubes in the sidebar to include different Kinds of content to your email, such as videos, product columns, and societal connections.
After making your changes, simply click’Done Editing’ and you’ll Be taken to the recipients’ choices where you are able to choose your groups or sections.
The tab also allows you To build segment-like rules on-the-fly, in the event your targeting isn’t quite perfect.
Finally, before sending, you’ll get to the’Schedule’ screen.
This is where you control if your broadcast email should go Out, whether that’s instantly, at a set time/date, or in accordance with your readers time zones.
Impressive, right? Newsletter Sender
Handling Your Clients
Having granular control over your subscribers is arguably one of The most important aspects of any email advertising program now.
Because highly personalized efforts Are Essential if You are looking to increase clicks, opens, and, most importantly, your conversions.
And while most providers allow you to”tag” readers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite utilizes a slightly different approach.
When you start up your subscriber dashboard, you’ll notice two Choices; Segments and Groups.
Segments are basically principles.
Your subscribers belong to a section only when they meet the Specified principles, and will be automatically added or removed accordingly.
Here’s what setting up a rule looks like:
Notice the way you can even combine Principles, in addition to another rule if the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The next tab is for groups, and despite the difference in title, These act much like your usual”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the name to’Tags’, but finally decided against it)
Contrary to Segments, Groups are upgraded manually or through an Automation principle — which we’ll get to in a moment — and they have no value besides what you call them.
As you Begin to use this platform, you’ll begin to understand At which Segments and Groups are generally used, but MailerLite offers a hand in case you’re unsure:
Basically, groups are much more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments allow you to bulge multiple subscribers together according to a common denominator.
A tad confusing, I will admit… but I believe it’s a fair trade-off For the additional flexibility. In any case, they’re discretionary.
Finally, the’Fields’ tab is used to customize your email copy.
You will notice that MailerLite has Already populated this area with their own areas, such as name, company, and nation.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do this by Clicking on the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they actually work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your readers along with Your custom field data in separate columns… or can simply add these fields to a types which will only apply to prospective readers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test area I created and added to a form:
I will not go too much to the shape Stuff here because I have a whole section on this below, but this is the approach I would recommend if you wanted to use this feature.
Again, as Soon as You’ve gathered your custom field information from new Readers, you are able to pull them into your email content and subject line.
Just click on the’Personalization’ drop down and select your Custom field.
I am barely scraping the surface Of what’s possible with custom fields, but it’s important that you know that this is a feature you can use.
Overall, it’s fair to state MailerLite has their subscriber Management and personalization features on point. Newsletter Sender
If you are not impressed by what you have seen up to Now, then maybe The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ from the forms page, you’ll be Able to pick from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template selection Isn’t winning any awards, but it will offer a great foundation to work from if, like most people, you don’t have that natural eye for layout.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, though They all ultimately do the same task; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will give you 17 building blocks to Further construct or change your landing page.
Now, I have used my fair share of Visual page builders, and this is already better than some dedicated solutions *cough* WPBakery.
Together with the fundamental building blocks, you can use elements like Hero sections, popup buttons, reviews and countdown timers.
It won’t be replacing landing Page builders such as Thrive Architect or LeadPagesanytime shortly, but credit where credit due, this thing over-delivers on all 3 kind types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email marketing tools, MailerLite actually Provides a Decent pair of type building tools.
Also, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this exact same interface, so there’s a lot to cover here.
Let’s start with your Bog-standard embedded form.
These forms are created inside MailerLite so as to get An embed code, which you can then put on your website to display it on specific pages.
Despite beginning super fundamental, the form designer lets you To personalize everything in the kind style, fields, background, name, input fields and, clearly, the button.
Form text can also be edited directly, which gives you a chance To envision your own backup in real-time.
It would have been nice to have Some templates here, but as you know, there’s more to a form than simply its physical appearance.
Clicking on the’Settings’ tab will allow you to configure how the Form works, including adding extra fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There is even a GDPR compliance alternative. Sweet.)
And talking of the success page…
…MailerLite also lets you customize the default message, Which will replace the embedded kind and prevents users from redirecting.
Last but surely not least, you Can check the way your form displays on mobile by shifting the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t be able to make any layout changes , but it makes Sense to check, nevertheless.
So that’s an Summary of the Embedded form but like I said before, you can also create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the Vast Majority of the installation process is identical, there are A few differences I’d like to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most Comprehensive choice, they do offer a good foundation to work from and the editor is just as easy to use for this form kind.
Clicking the’E-commerce’ template takes me into a preview Before moving into the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are a few new options under form types This time around:
Considering paid tools like Thrive Leads exist for both ribbons and slide-in forms, it’s pretty impressive to observe this amount of control over popup types.
And, as before, you can play the styling options to get it Matched up with your own branding.
Finally, you can Select the close Behavior of your form under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is that the X icon, but you can swap out this for A”No thanks” text option, or have both.
That is really where most email Marketing platforms will leave you, but MailerLite has yet another trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your effort Statistics in the dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click data, Subscriber growth, automation stats, and form signups.
Clicking into any effort will Give you special reporting for this effort.
This is where you’ll discover some statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying environment, email client and much more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average consumer…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into individual areas of this report for a more detailed breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.
For example, the’View Mail’ tab also displays a click map, so It’s possible to see how your subscribers interacted to another.
Reports for automations are also Available under the’Automations’ tab, although I found these to be less enlightening than effort reports.
Here’s a quick example:
Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting port, and many will get the available data more than sufficient to meet their demands.
What’s email marketing without a dash of automation?
For many reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could easily make or break this particular review.
The great news? If you’ve ever used a visual workflow builder, You’ll immediately feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, The automations interface is easy, clean and simple to navigate — something that certainly can’t be said for every email advertising software.
After setting your trigger, you can Start adding steps to your workflow.
These measures could be anything from sending an email, adding a Postpone, a bubble break, or an act, such as transferring a contributor or upgrading their records.
Here’s a straightforward workflow I set together, where readers Are unsubscribed when they do not open my email within seven days.
There are countless Possibilities in regards to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite should not have any trouble with the huge majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign because it lacks a number of the conditional components. (Split, Go To, Goal, etc.. )
For Instance, there’s currently no automation for transferring Subscribers directly into another automation.
That being said, most of these actions can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into various groups that activate new automation workflows. It is just much less effective…. yet.
Another matter of efficacy here is when creating new emails In the automation workflow builder.
After having an email cube to The workflow, you’ll be asked to add your subject line that appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking on the’Design email’ button will fire up the Writer:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the standard campaign creation wizard, which I covered earlier in the review.
This time, however, as Soon as You’ve established your email, clicking on the ‘Done editing’ button will guide you straight back to the automations workflow rather than the usual sending alternatives.
Finally, your email address will probably be Loaded into your automation.
A Wonderful touch here is having a thumbnail preview of your Email within your automation cube, so it’s possible to get an concept about what it contains at a glance.
While this procedure may seem like A grind on paper, it is actually much quicker than what I’m used to with other email advertising tools — ActiveCampaign being a fantastic example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something like ConvertKit where The editor is loaded inside the automations builder, you will likely find this a downgrade in functionality.
It is fast enough for me, Personally, but I guess it’s all relative.
Before I wrap up this section, there is 1 Kind of automation You won’t find in MailerLite, and I think it’s important to highlight.
The ability to activate an automation (or step) based on how Subscribers interact with all the webpages on your site.
This kind of behavioral targeting just is not accessible MailerLite right now, so if it’s something you use or plan to use, you might want to skip this one. Newsletter Sender
The cost of MailerLite is one of the tools biggest Selling things, and let us face it, we all love a good bargain.
For starters, they offer an infinite free plan that includes All features (including premium) to get up to 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding in your mails using this program, it’s still an amazing option for those starting out.
And what about the top plans?
It turns out, at around half the Cost of the rivalry generally, MailerLite is by far among the cheapest options available on the industry. Additionally, if you are willing to pay yearly, you can also get a much better discount.
In Reality, I haven’t been able to find anything that does the Exact Same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is one of those very few advertising tools to disrupt The (very crowded) sector in the last couple of decades, and that’s no simple feat.
While it is not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it works exceptionally well at virtually anything you can throw at it.
I find MailerLite strikes the perfect balance Between flexibility, simplicity and speed, and all at a price point you’ll seriously struggle to beat.
