MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?

Like most email marketing providers these days, You’ll Need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the software.
When you first register, you’ll be asked to finish your profile.
This includes information like your company name, website, Business, address, business size, record size and also the kind of content you plan to send.
Then, you need to confirm your Website (or domain name).
This remains part of the acceptance process, and MailerLite will Simply inquire which email is associated to that domain in order that they can email you a verification link.
Once you’ve completed these Measures, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite team will review your application, assess your Website, and determine whether you’re a good fit for their service.
(In other words, they’re making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)
As revealed above, you’ll still be Able to use the software to make campaigns and play with the attributes, but you won’t have the ability to send anything before accepted.
I was”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limitation of 500 subscribers.
Here Is What the email said:
However, while these steps aren’t perfect for getting started, it Does help stop malicious users from hurting everyone else’s deliverability.
If you are anything like me, you’ll rely on automations to handle The majority of your email marketing.
(We’ll get to automations shortly, do not worry.)
But if it is a new blog article, podcast, or timely Announcement, there’s always a reason to send a more immediate email.
That is where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the brand new’Produce Campaign’ will provide you several options.
– Regular campaign: A traditional broadcast email.
– A/B split campaign: Multiple email Variations, such as subject line, from title and, yes, even content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to subscribers who Do not open your broadcast email, with the option of altering the subject line and email content.
– RSS effort: Create a recurring campaign That sends fresh content to subscribers using your site’s RSS feed.
Aside from a few added options, most of these will follow The same step-by-step process of a normal campaign.
So let’s walk you through it.
Once you click on to create your effort, you’ll be asked to Select a preferred editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
You can switch to the Templates tab and select from one of their pre-designed email templates — which will move you into the dragn’ drop editor by default.
At the time of writing, there are 21 email templates to select From which is a little on the low side, but the layouts are super modern.
And, of course, if you would just Prefer to reuse a previous email, you can click the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this example, I will choose the first template from the library.
The editor is easy to work with, Which makes customizing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the cubes in the sidebar to include distinct Kinds of articles to your email, including videos, merchandise columns, and societal connections.
After making your changes, just click’Done Editing’ and you will Be carried to the recipients’ options where you can select your classes or sections.
The advanced tab also allows one To develop segment-like rules on-the-fly, in the event your targeting isn’t quite right.
Finally, before sending, you’ll get into the’Schedule’ screen.
This is where you control if your broadcast email should go Out, if that’s instantly, at a set time/date, or in accordance with your readers time zones.
Impressive, right? Newsletter2Go
Handling Your Subscribers
Possessing granular control over your readers is arguably among The most important aspects of any email advertising program today.
Because highly personalized efforts Are Essential if You are looking to increase clicks, opens, and, above all, your conversions.
And while most providers Permit You to”tag” readers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite uses a slightly different approach.
When you open up your subscriber dashboard, you’ll see two Choices; Segments and Groups.
Segments are essentially principles.
Your readers belong to a segment only when they fulfill the Specified rules, and will be automatically inserted or eliminated so.
Here is what establishing a rule looks like:
Notice how you can even blend Principles, as well as an alternate rule if the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The following tab is for groups, and despite the difference in name, These act much like your normal”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the title to’Tags’, but finally decided against it)
Unlike Segments, Groups are upgraded manually or through an Automation rule — which we will get into in a minute — and they have no value aside from what you actually call them.
As you start to use this platform, you’ll begin to understand At which Segments and Groups are typically used, but MailerLite delivers a hand in the event you’re uncertain:
Fundamentally, groups are much more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments permit you to bulge multiple subscribers collectively according to a common denominator.
A tad confusing, I’ll admit… but I believe it’s a fair trade-off For the additional flexibility. Besides, they’re optional.
Finally, the’Fields’ tab is used to customize your email copy.
You will notice that MailerLite has Already populated this area with their own areas, such as title, company, and nation.
If You Would like to create your own custom fields, you can do so by Clicking on the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV file of your subscribers along with Your custom field information in separate columns… or can easily add these fields to your forms which will only apply to future subscribers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test field I made and added to a form:
I won’t go too much into the shape Stuff here because I have a whole section on this below, but this is the approach I’d recommend if you wished to use this feature.
Again, once you’ve gathered your custom field data from fresh Subscribers, you are able to pull them into your email content and subject line.
Just click on the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Customized field.
I’m barely scraping the surface Of what’s possible with custom fields, but it’s important that you know this is a feature you can use.
Overall, it’s reasonable to state MailerLite has their subscriber Direction and personalization features on point. Newsletter2Go
If you’re not impressed by what you have seen so far, then perhaps The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ from the forms page, then you will be Able to pick from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template choice Is not winning any awards, but it does offer a great base to work from if, for example most of us, you do not have that pure eye for layout.
I went ahead and selected the’Lead Generation’ template, though They all finally do the identical job; accumulate an email address.
This time, the editor will give you 17 building blocks to Further construct or alter your landing page.
Now, I have used my fair share of Visual site builders, and this is already better than some dedicated alternatives *Infection * WPBakery.
Along with the basic building blocks, you can use elements like Hero segments, popup buttons, reviews and countdown timers.
No, it will not be replacing landing Page builders such as Thrive Architect or LeadPagesanytime soon, but credit where credit due, this item over-delivers on all 3 kind types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email advertising tools, MailerLite really offers a Adequate set of form building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this exact same interface, so there’s a lot to cover here.
Let’s begin with your Bog-standard embedded form.
These forms are first created inside MailerLite in order to get An embed code, which you can then put on your website to show it on particular pages.
Despite beginning super basic, the form designer allows you To personalize everything in the kind style, subjects, background, title, input fields and, clearly, the button.
Form text may also be edited directly, which gives you a chance To envision your own backup in real-time.
It would have been nice to have Some templates here, but as you know, there’s more to some form than just its physical appearance.
Clicking on the’Settings’ tab will Make It Possible for you to configure how the Form works, including adding extra fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There is a GDPR compliance option. Sweet.)
And speaking of the success page…
…MailerLite also lets you customize the default message, That will replace the embedded form also prevents users .
Last but certainly not least, you Can assess the way your form displays on cellular by shifting the toggle to responsive mode.
You won’t be able to make any layout changes , but it makes Sense to test, nevertheless.
So that’s an overview of this Embedded form but like I said before, you can even create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the Vast Majority of this installation process is identical, there are A few differences I’d love to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most In depth selection, they do offer a good foundation to work from and the editor is at least as simple to use with this form kind.
Clicking the’E-commerce’ template takes me into a preview Before moving into the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are some new choices under form types This time around:
Considering paid tools like Thrive Leads exist for ribbons and slide-in forms, it is pretty impressive to observe this level of control over popup forms.
And, like before, you can play with the styling options to get it Matched with your branding.
Last, you can Select the close Behaviour of your form under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is that the X icon, but you can swap this out for A”No thanks” text option, or have both.
That is really where most email Marketing platforms would leave you, but MailerLite has one more trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like most tools, you’ll find a summary of your effort Data in the main dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from campaign open and click info, Subscriber development, automation analytics, and form signups.
Clicking into any effort will Give you special reporting for that effort.
This is where you’ll find some more advanced statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, reading surroundings, email client and more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average consumer…
…but if you really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into different areas of this report for a more detailed breakdown.
You can find some real gems under These reports.
By Way of Example, the’View Email’ tab also shows a click map, so You can see your readers interacted to another.
Reports for automations will also be Available under the’Automations’ tab, although I found to be less insightful than campaign reports.
Here’s a Fast example:
Total, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting port, and many will get the available data more than sufficient to meet their needs.
What’s email advertising with no dash of automation?
For many reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could simply make or break this particular review.
The great news? If you’ve ever used a visual workflow builder, You will instantly feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, That the automations interface is simple, clean and simple to navigate — something which certainly can not be said for every email advertising program.
After setting your trigger, you can Start adding measures to your workflow.
These measures could be anything from sending an email, including a Postpone, a bubble break, or an action, like transferring a contributor or upgrading their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I set together, where subscribers Are unsubscribed if they do not open my email within 7 days.
There are innumerable Possibilities in regards to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite should have no trouble with the huge majority of use cases.
Granted, it is not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign since it lacks some of the conditional components. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.. )
For Instance, there’s now no automation for moving Readers directly into a different automation.
That being said, the Majority of these activities can Nevertheless Be achieved by moving Subscribers into different classes that activate new automation workflows. It’s simply not as efficient…. yet.
Another question of efficiency here is when generating new emails From the automation workflow builder.
After having an email block to The workflow, you will be asked to add your subject line that appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking the’Design email’ button will automatically fire up the Writer:
Now, you’ll be temporarily Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered previously in the critique.
This time, however, once you’ve established your email, clicking on the ‘Done editing’ button will guide you straight back to the automations workflow instead of the usual sending alternatives.
Finally, your email will probably be Loaded into your automation.
A Wonderful touch here is having a thumbnail preview of your Email inside your automation cube, which means you can find an idea of what it contains at a glance.
While this procedure may seem like A grind on paper, it is really much quicker than what I’m utilized to with other email advertising tools — ActiveCampaign being a great example.
On the other hand, if you’ve come over from something such as ConvertKit where The editor is loaded inside the automations builder, so you’ll probably find this a downgrade in performance.
It’s quick enough for me, Personally, however I guess it is all relative.
Before I wrap up this segment, there is one type of automation You won’t find in MailerLite, and I think it’s very important to highlight.
The ability to trigger an automation (or step) based on the way Readers interact with all the pages on your website.
This Sort of behavioral targeting just isn’t accessible MailerLite right now, so if it’s something you use or plan to use, you might want to skip this one. Newsletter2Go
The cost of MailerLite is undoubtedly one of the tools biggest Selling points, and let’s face it, most of us love a fantastic bargain.
For starters, they offer an unlimited free plan that includes All attributes (including premium) to get up to 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding in your mails using this plan, it is still an wonderful alternative for anyone starting out.
And what about the top programs?
It ends up, at approximately half of the Price of this rivalry on average, MailerLite is undoubtedly among the least expensive options available on the industry. Additionally, if you are ready to pay yearly, you can also get a much greater discount.
In fact, I haven’t been able to find anything that does exactly the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is among the email advertising tools to interrupt The (very crowded) sector in recent years, which is no simple feat.
While it is not as quickly as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it works exceptionally well at just about anything you can throw at it.
I find MailerLite strikes the perfect balance Between flexibility, simplicity and speed, and all at a price point you’ll seriously struggle to beat.
Thinking about giving it a twist? Let us know how it works for you In the comments. Newsletter2Go
