Background Nonprofit Email Marketing Statistics

MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like most online industries now, email advertising continues to be Dominated by the same big players for the previous decade. Which means they get promoted very heavily and achieve a great deal of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the marketplace, causing long-time users to question their loyalties.

Like most email advertising providers Nowadays, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to correctly use the program.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to complete your profile.
This includes information like your organization name, website, Industry, address, business size, record size and even the kind of content you intend to send.
Then, You Have to verify your Website (or domain ).
This remains part of the approval process, and MailerLite will Simply ask which email is associated to this domain in order that they could email you a confirmation link.
Once you’ve completed these Steps, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite staff will review your application, check your Website, and determine whether you are a good match for their service.
(In other words, they are making sure you’re not a spammer/scammer)
As shown above, you’ll still be Able to utilize the software to make campaigns and perform with the attributes, but you won’t have the ability to send anything before accepted.
I was”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limitation of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
However, while these steps are not perfect for getting started, it Does help prevent malicious users from hurting everybody’s deliverability.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll rely upon automations to handle The majority of your email marketing.
(We’ll get to automations soon, do not worry.)
But if it’s a new blog article, podcast, or timely Announcement, there is always a reason to send a more immediate email.
That is where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the brand new’Create Campaign’ will provide you several choices.
– Regular effort: A traditional broadcast email.
– A/B split campaign: Multiple email Variations, including subject line, from title and, yes, even content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to readers who Do not start your broadcast email, with the option of changing the subject line and email content.
– RSS effort: Create a recurring campaign That sends new content to readers using your website’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few added choices, most of these will follow Exactly the exact same step-by-step process of a normal campaign.
So let’s walk you through it.
Once you click on to create your effort, you’ll be asked to Pick a favorite editor, whether that be the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
Otherwise, you can change to the Templates tab and choose from among the pre-designed email templates — which will move you to the dragn’ drop editor by default.
In the time of writing, there are 21 email templates to select From which is a little on the low side, however, the designs are super modern.
And, of course, if you would just Like to reuse a previous email, you can click the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this example, I will choose the first template in the library.
The editor is easy to use, Making viewing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also utilize the blocks in the sidebar to add distinct Types of articles to your email, such as videos, merchandise columns, and societal links.
After making your adjustments, simply click’Done Editing’ and you will Be taken to the recipients’ choices where you are able to select your classes or sections.
The tab also allows you To develop segment-like rules , in the event your targeting isn’t quite right.
Finally, right before sending, you’ll get to the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control if your broadcast email should go Out, if that’s immediately, at a set time/date, or according to your subscribers time zones.
Impressive, right? Nonprofit Email Marketing Statistics
Managing Your Clients
Possessing granular control over your readers is arguably one of The most important aspects of any email marketing software now.
Because highly personalized campaigns Are Essential if You’re looking to increase opens, clicks, and, above all, your conversions.
And while many providers Permit You to”tag” readers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite uses a slightly different strategy.
When you open up your subscriber dashboard, you’ll see two Options; Segments and Groups.
Segments are essentially principles.
Your subscribers belong to a segment only when they meet the Specified rules, and will be automatically inserted or removed accordingly.
Here’s what establishing a rule looks like:
Notice the way you can also combine Rules, in addition to an alternate rule when the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The next tab is for classes, and despite the difference in name, These act much like your usual”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the name to’Tags’, but finally decided against it)
Contrary to Segments, Groups are upgraded manually or via an Automation rule — which we’ll get into in a minute — and they don’t have any value aside from what you actually call them.
As you start to use this stage, you’ll begin to understand Where Segments and Groups are typically used, however, MailerLite offers a hand in case you’re unsure:
Basically, groups are more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments allow you to lump multiple subscribers together based on a common denominator.
Somewhat confusing, I will admit… but I believe it is a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. Besides, they are optional.
Last, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this region with their particular areas, such as name, company, and country.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do so by Clicking the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they actually work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your subscribers together with Your custom field information in separate columns… or may easily add these fields to your forms which will only apply to future readers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test area I created and added to a form:
I will not go too much into the form Stuff here since I have an entire section on that below, but this is the approach I’d recommend if you wished to use this attribute.
Again, as Soon as You’ve collected your custom field information from new Subscribers, you are able to pull them in to your email content and subject line.
Just click on the’Personalization’ drop down and select your Custom field.
I’m barely scratching the surface Of what’s possible with custom fields, but it’s important to know this is a feature you can use.
Overall, it is reasonable to state MailerLite has their subscriber Management and personalization features on stage. Nonprofit Email Marketing Statistics
If you’re not impressed with what you’ve seen up to Now, then perhaps The page builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ from the forms page, you’ll be Able to pick from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template selection Isn’t winning any awards, but it does offer a fantastic foundation to work from if, for example the majority people, you don’t have that natural eye for design.
I went ahead and selected the’Lead Generation’ template, however They all ultimately do the same task; accumulate an email address.
This time, the editor will Provide you 17 building blocks to Further build or change your landing page.
Now, I have used my fair share of Visual site builders, and it is already better than some dedicated alternatives *cough* WPBakery.
Along with the fundamental building blocks, you can use components like Hero segments, popup buttons, reviews and countdown timers.
It won’t be replacing landing Page builders like Thrive Architect or LeadPagesanytime shortly, but credit where credit due, this thing over-delivers on all 3 kind types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email advertising tools, MailerLite really offers a Decent pair of form building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this exact same interface, so there’s a whole lot to cover .
Let us start with your Bog-standard embedded type.
These forms are first created inside MailerLite in order to get An embed code, which you can then place on your website to display it on specific pages.
Despite beginning super basic, the form designer lets you To customize everything from the form style, fields, background, title, input fields and, of course, the button.
Form text can also be edited directly, which gives you a Opportunity To envision your own copy in real time.
It would have been nice to have Some templates, but as you know, there’s more to a form than simply its physical appearance.
Clicking the’Settings’ tab will Make It Possible for you to configure how the Form works, such as adding additional fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There is a GDPR compliance alternative. Sweet.)
And talking of the success page…
…MailerLite also enables you to customize the default message, That can replace the embedded form also prevents users .
Last but certainly not least, you Can assess how your form displays on cellular by shifting the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t be able to make any layout changes , but it makes Sense to test, nevertheless.
So that is an overview of this Embedded form but like I said before, you may even create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the Vast Majority of the installation Procedure is identical, there are A few differences I’d love to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most In depth choice, they do provide a fantastic foundation to work from and the editor is just as simple to use for this form kind.
Clicking the’E-commerce’ template takes me to a preview Before moving into the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are a few new choices under form types Now around:
Considering paid tools such as Thrive Leads exist for both ribbons and slide-in forms, it’s pretty impressive to see this level of control over popup forms.
And, like before, you can perform with the styling options to get it Matched up with your own branding.
Finally, you can choose the near Behavior of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is the X icon, but you can swap this out for A”No thanks” text choice, or have both.
That is really where most email Marketing platforms will render you, but MailerLite has yet another trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your effort Statistics in the main dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click info, Subscriber growth, automation stats, and kind signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you specific coverage for this campaign.
This is where you’ll discover some statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, reading environment, email client and much more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average consumer…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into different areas of the report to get a more detailed breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.
For example, the’View Email’ tab also shows a click map, so You can see your subscribers interacted with your emails compared to one another.
Reports for automations are also Available under the’Automations’ tab, although I found these to be less enlightening than effort reports.
Here’s a Fast example:
Total, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting interface, and many will find the available statistics more than enough to fulfill their demands.
What is email advertising without a dash of automation?
For many reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could simply make or break this review.
The great news? If you’ve used a visual workflow builder, You will instantly feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, That the automations interface is simple, clean and easy to navigate — something which certainly can not be said for every email marketing program.
After setting your trigger, you can begin adding measures to your workflow.
These steps could be anything from sending an email, including a Delay, a conditional split, or an act, like transferring a subscriber or updating their records.
Here’s a straightforward workflow I set together, where subscribers Are unsubscribed if they don’t open my email within 7 days.
There are countless Possibilities in regards to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite ought to have no trouble with the vast majority of use cases.
Granted, it is not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign since it lacks some of the conditional components. (Split, Go To, Goal, etc.. )
For example, there’s now no automation for moving Readers directly into a different automation.
That being said, most of these actions can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into different classes that activate new automation workflows. It’s simply not as efficient…. yet.
Another question of efficiency here is when creating new mails In the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email block to The workflow, you’ll be asked to add your subject line which then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking on the’Design email’ button will automatically fire up the Writer:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered earlier in the critique.
This time, however, once you’ve established your email, clicking the ‘Done editing’ button will direct you straight back into the automations workflow instead of the usual sending options.
Finally, your email will be Loaded into your own automation.
A nice touch here is using a thumbnail preview of your Email within your automation block, so it’s possible to get an idea of what it contains at a glance.
While this process may seem like A grind on paper, it is really much faster than what I’m utilized to with other email marketing tools — ActiveCampaign being a fantastic example.
On the other hand, if you’ve come over from something like ConvertKit where The editor is loaded within the automations builder, so you’ll probably find that this downgrade in functionality.
It is fast enough for me, Personally, but I guess it’s all relative.
Before I wrap up this section, there is 1 Kind of automation You will not find in MailerLite, also that I think that it’s important to highlight.
The ability to trigger an automation (or measure ) based on how Subscribers interact with the pages on your website.
This kind of behavioral targeting just isn’t available in MailerLite at this time, so if it’s something you use or intend to utilize, you might want to skip this one. Nonprofit Email Marketing Statistics
The Price of MailerLite is undoubtedly one of those tools biggest Selling points, and let us face it, most of us love a good deal.
For starters, they offer an infinite free plan that includes All attributes (including premium) for up to 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding on your emails using this program, it’s still an wonderful alternative for those starting out.
And what about the top plans?
It turns out, at around half the Price of the competition generally, MailerLite is undoubtedly one of the cheapest options available on the industry. Additionally, if you’re willing to pay yearly, you can also get an even greater discount.
In Reality, I haven’t been able to locate anything that does exactly the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is among the few marketing tools The (very crowded) sector in recent years, and that’s no easy feat.
While it is not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it performs exceptionally well at just about anything you can throw at it.
I find MailerLite strikes the best balance Between flexibility, simplicity and speed, and all at a price point you’ll seriously struggle to conquer.
