Background Professional Email Marketing Software
If I asked you to name an email Marketing tool, what would you say? Professional Email Marketing Software
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like most online industries today, email marketing has been Dominated by the identical large players for the last decade. Which means they get encouraged very deeply and achieve a great deal of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the marketplace, causing long-time users to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done exactly that.
So now, in this review, I will be ripping MailerLite from limb To limb to find out if it stands its own ground against the big boys…

Like most email marketing providers these days, You’ll Need to Go through a review process before being able to correctly use the software.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to complete your profile.
This includes information such as your organization name, site, Business, address, business size, list size and even the kind of content you intend to send.
Then, You Have to confirm your Site (or domain name).
This remains part of this acceptance process, and MailerLite will Simply ask which email is associated to that domain in order that they could email you a confirmation link.
As Soon as You’ve completed these Measures, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite staff will review your application, check your Site, and determine whether you’re a fantastic match for their service.
(In other words, they are making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)
As shown above, you’ll still be Able to use the software to create campaigns and perform with the attributes, but you won’t be able to send anything before approved.
I was”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limitation of 500 subscribers.
Here Is What the email said:
But while these steps aren’t perfect for getting started, it Does help prevent malicious users from hurting everybody’s deliverability.
If you are anything like me, you’ll rely on automations to handle The majority of your email advertising.
(We’ll get to automations shortly, don’t worry.)
But if it is a new blog article, podcast, or timely Announcement, there’s always some excuse to send a more instant email.
That is where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the new’Produce Campaign’ will give you several options.
– Regular campaign: A Conventional broadcast email.
– A/B split effort: Multiple email Versions, such as subject line, from name and, yes, even email content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to readers who Do not open your broadcast email, with the option of altering the subject line and email articles.
– RSS effort: Produce a recurring campaign That sends fresh content to readers using your website’s RSS feed.
Aside from a few added choices, the Majority of these will follow The same step-by-step procedure of a standard effort.
So let us walk you through it.
Once you click to create your campaign, you’ll be requested to Pick a preferred editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
Otherwise, you can change to the Templates tab and select from among the pre-designed email templates — which will move you into the dragn’ drop editor .
In the time of writing, there are 21 email templates to choose From which is somewhat on the low side, but the designs are super contemporary.
And, of course, if you would just Prefer to reuse a previous email, you can click on the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this instance, I’ll choose the first template in the library.
The editor is easy to work with, Which makes viewing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the blocks in the sidebar to add distinct Kinds of content to your email, such as videos, merchandise columns, and social links.
After making your adjustments, just click’Done Editing’ and you will Be taken to the recipients’ choices where you can choose your classes or sections.
The advanced tab also allows one To develop segment-like rules , in case your targeting isn’t quite perfect.
Finally, before sending, then you’ll get to the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control when your broadcast email should go Out, if that’s instantly, at a set time/date, or in accordance with your subscribers time zones.
Impressive, right? Professional Email Marketing Software
Managing Your Subscribers
Possessing granular control over your subscribers is arguably one of The most important facets of any email marketing software today.
Because highly personalized efforts Are Essential if You’re looking to increase clicks, opens, and, most importantly, your own conversions.
And while most providers allow you to”tag” subscribers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite utilizes a slightly different approach.
When you start up your subscriber dash, you’ll notice two Choices; Segments and Groups.
Segments are basically principles.
Your readers belong to a segment only when they meet the Specified principles, and are automatically added or removed so.
Here’s what setting up a rule looks like:
Notice the way you can even combine Principles, as well as another rule when the first doesn’t exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The next tab is for classes, and despite the difference in title, These behave much like your usual”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the name to’Tags’, but ultimately decided against it)
Contrary to Segments, Groups are updated manually or through an Automation principle — that we will get to in a minute — and they don’t have any value besides what you actually call them.
As you start to use this stage, you’ll begin to understand At which Segments and Groups are generally used, however, MailerLite offers a hand in the event you’re unsure:
Basically, groups are much more of a Deliberate action on a per-subscriber foundation, whereas Segments permit you to bulge multiple subscribers together according to a frequent denominator.
Somewhat confusing, I will admit… but I believe it is a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. In any case, they’re optional.
Last, the’Fields’ tab is used to customize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this area with their own areas, such as name, company, and nation.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do so by Clicking on the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your subscribers along with Your custom field data in separate columns… or may simply add these fields to your types which will only apply to prospective readers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test area I created and added into a form:
I will not go too much to the form Things here because I have a whole section on that below, but this is the approach I’d recommend if you wished to use this attribute.
Again, as Soon as You’ve gathered your custom field data from fresh Readers, you can pull them into your email content and subject line.
Just click the’Personalization’ drop down and select your Customized field.
I’m barely scraping the surface Of what’s possible with custom fields, but it is important that you understand that this is a feature you may use.
Overall, it is fair to say MailerLite has their subscriber Management and personalization features on stage. Professional Email Marketing Software
If you are not impressed by what you have seen up to Now, then perhaps The page builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ in the forms page, then you will be Able to pick from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template selection Is not winning any awards, but it will offer a great base to work from if, for example most people, you don’t have that natural eye for layout.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, though They ultimately do the same task; accumulate an email address.
This time, the editor will give you 17 building blocks to Further build or alter your landing page.
Now, I have used my fair share of Visual page builders, and it is already better than a few dedicated solutions *Infection * WPBakery.
Along with the fundamental building blocks, you can use elements like Hero segments, popup buttons, reviews and countdown timers.
It won’t be replacing landing Page builders like Thrive Architect or even LeadPagesanytime soon, but credit where credit due, this item over-delivers on all three kind types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email marketing tools, MailerLite really offers a Adequate set of form building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this exact same interface, so there is a lot to cover here.
Let’s begin with your Bog-standard embedded form.
These forms are first created inside MailerLite so as to get An embed code, which you can then place on your website to display it on particular pages.
Despite starting off super basic, the form designer allows you To customize everything from the form style, subjects, background, title, enter fields and, of course, the button.
Form text may also be edited directly, which gives you a Opportunity To envision your own backup in real-time.
It would’ve been nice to have Some templates here, but as you know, there is more to some form than just its appearance.
Clicking the’Settings’ tab will allow you to configure how the Form functions, such as adding extra fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There is even a GDPR compliance option. Sweet.)
And talking of the success page…
…MailerLite also enables you to customize the default message, Which will replace the embedded form also prevents users from redirecting.
Last but certainly not least, you Can check the way your form screens on cellular by switching the toggle to responsive mode.
You won’t be able to make any design changes here, but it makes Sense to test, nevertheless.
So that’s an Summary of the Embedded form but as I said before, you may also create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the majority of the installation process is identical, there are A few differences I’d like to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most Comprehensive selection, they do provide a good base to work from and the editor is at least as simple to use for this form kind.
Clicking the’E-commerce’ template requires me into a preview Before moving into the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are some new options under form types This time around:
Considering paid programs such as Thrive Leads exist for both ribbons and slide-in forms, it’s pretty impressive to observe this amount of control over popup forms.
And, as before, you can perform the styling options to get it Matched with your branding.
Finally, you can choose the close Behavior of your form under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is that the X icon, but you can swap this out for A”No thanks” text option, or have .
That is where most email Marketing platforms will leave you, but MailerLite has one more trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your effort Statistics in the main dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from campaign open and click data, Subscriber growth, automation stats, and form signups.
Clicking into any effort will Give you specific coverage for this campaign.
This is where you’ll discover a few statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying surroundings, email client and more.
This should be plenty of Information for the ordinary user…
…but if you really want To dig into the numbers, it is possible to click into individual areas of the report to get a more comprehensive breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.
For example, the’View Mail’ tab also displays a click map, so You can see how your readers interacted to another.
Reports for automations are Available under the’Automations’ tab, even although I found these to be less insightful than effort reports.
Here’s a quick example:
Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting port, and most will find the available statistics more than sufficient to fulfill their needs.
What is email marketing with no dashboard of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could easily make or break this review.
The great news? If you have used a visual workflow builder, You’ll instantly feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, The automations interface is easy, clean and easy to navigate — something that certainly can not be said for each and every email advertising program.
After setting your trigger, you can Start adding steps to your workflow.
These steps can be anything from sending an email, adding a Delay, a bubble break, or an act, such as transferring a contributor or updating their records.
Here’s a straightforward workflow I set together, where readers Are unsubscribed if they don’t open my email within 7 days.
There are innumerable Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations similar to this, and MailerLite ought to have no trouble with the vast majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something such as ActiveCampaign because it lacks some of the conditional elements. (Split, Go To, Goal, etc.)
For example, there’s currently no automation for transferring Subscribers directly into a different automation.
That being said, most of these actions can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into various groups that activate new automation workflows. It is just much less effective…. yet.
Another matter of efficiency here is when generating new mails In the automation workflow builder.
After having an email block to The workflow, you will be asked to put in your subject line which then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking on the’Design email’ button will automatically fire up the Writer:
Now, you’ll be temporarily Redirected to the standard campaign creation wizard, which I covered previously in the critique.
This time, but as Soon as You’ve created your email, clicking the ‘Done editing’ button will guide you back to the automations workflow rather than the usual sending alternatives.
Finally, your email will probably be Loaded into your automation.
A nice touch here is having a thumbnail preview of your Email within your automation cube, which means you can find an concept of what it contains at a glimpse.
While this process may seem like A grind on newspaper, it is really much quicker than what I’m utilized to with other email marketing tools — ActiveCampaign being a fantastic example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something like ConvertKit where The editor is loaded within the automations builder, you will probably find that this downgrade in performance.
It is fast enough for me, Personally, but I guess it is all relative.
Before I wrap up this section, there’s 1 type of automation You will not find in MailerLite, and that I think that it’s very important to highlight.
The ability to trigger an automation (or step) based on the way Readers interact with the pages on your website.
This kind of behavioral targeting only is not accessible MailerLite right now, so if it’s something you use or plan to utilize, you might want to skip this one. Professional Email Marketing Software
The cost of MailerLite is undoubtedly one of those tools biggest Selling points, and let’s face it, we all love a good deal.
For starters, they offer an infinite free plan that includes All attributes (including premium) for as many as 1,000 subscribers.
While There’s some subtle Branding on your emails using this program, it is still an wonderful alternative for those starting out.
And what about the top plans?
It turns out, at approximately half the Cost of this rivalry generally, MailerLite is by far among the cheapest options available on the market. Additionally, if you’re ready to pay yearly, you can also get a much better discount.
In fact, I have not been able to locate anything that does exactly the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is among the few marketing tools to disrupt The (very crowded) industry in recent decades, which is no simple feat.
While it is not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it works exceptionally well at just about anything you can throw at it.
All in all, I find MailerLite strikes the best balance Between flexibility, simplicity and speed, and at a price point you will seriously struggle to conquer.
