Like most email marketing providers these days, You’ll Need to Go through a review process before being able to correctly use the program.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to complete your profile.
This includes information like your organization name, website, Industry, address, company size, record size and even the type of material you intend to send.
Then, you need to confirm your Site (or domain name).
This remains part of the acceptance process, and MailerLite will Simply inquire which email is related to this domain in order that they can email you a verification link.
Once you’ve completed those Steps, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite team will review your application, check your Website, and ascertain whether you are a fantastic fit for their service.
(In other words, they are making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)
As shown above, you’ll still be Able to utilize the software to create campaigns and play with the attributes, but you won’t have the ability to send anything until approved.
I was”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limit of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
But while these steps aren’t perfect for getting started, it Does help stop unscrupulous users from hurting everyone else’s deliverability.
If you are anything like me, you’ll rely upon automations to handle The majority of your email advertising.
(We’ll get to automations shortly, don’t worry.)
But if it is a new blog article, podcast, or timely Announcement, there’s always some excuse to send a more immediate email.
That is where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the brand new’Create Campaign’ will give you several options.
– Regular effort: A traditional broadcast email.
– A/B split campaign: Multiple email Versions, such as subject line, from name and, yes, even content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to subscribers who Do not open your broadcast email, together with the option of altering the subject line and email articles.
– RSS campaign: Create a recurring campaign That sends new content to readers using your site’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few added options, the Majority of these will follow The same step-by-step process of a normal campaign.
So let us walk you through it.
Once you click on to create your campaign, you’ll be requested to Select a preferred editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
Otherwise, you can switch to the Templates tab and select from one of the pre-designed email templates — that will move you to the dragn’ drop editor by default.
At the time of writing, there are 21 email templates to choose From which is a little on the low side, but the designs are super modern.
And, of course, if you would just Prefer to reuse a previous email, you can click the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this instance, I’ll choose the first template from the library.
The editor is easy to work with, Which makes customizing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the cubes in the sidebar to add distinct Types of content to your email, such as videos, merchandise columns, and societal links.
After making your changes, just click’Done Editing’ and you will Be taken to the recipients’ options where you are able to select your groups or segments.
The tab also allows you To build segment-like rules on-the-fly, in case your targeting is not quite perfect.
Finally, right before sending, then you’ll get to the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control when your broadcast email should go Out, if that’s instantly, at a set time/date, or in accordance with your readers time zones.
Impressive, right? Progressive Profiling Email Marketing
Handling Your Subscribers
Having granular control over your readers is arguably among The most essential aspects of any email marketing program today.
Because highly personalized efforts are necessary if You’re looking to increase clicks, opens, and, most importantly, your own conversions.
And while many providers Permit You to”tag” subscribers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite utilizes a slightly different approach.
When you start up your subscriber dash, you’ll notice two Options; Segments and Groups.
Segments are basically rules.
Your subscribers belong to a section only when they meet the Specified principles, and are automatically added or eliminated so.
Here’s what setting up a rule looks like:
Notice how you can even blend Rules, as well as an alternate rule when the first doesn’t exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The next tab is for groups, and also the difference in title, These behave much like your usual”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the name to’Tags’, but ultimately decided against it.)
Unlike Segments, Groups are upgraded manually or through an Automation rule — that we will get into in a minute — and they don’t have any value besides what you call them.
As you start to use this platform, you’ll Start to understand Where Segments and Groups are typically used, but MailerLite delivers a hand in the event you’re uncertain:
Fundamentally, groups are much more of a Deliberate action on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments allow you to lump multiple contributors together based on a frequent denominator.
A tad confusing, I’ll admit… but I feel it is a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. Besides, they are optional.
Finally, the’Fields’ tab is used to customize your email copy.
You will notice that MailerLite has Already populated this area with their own areas, such as title, company, and country.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do so by Clicking the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV file of your readers along with Your custom field data in distinct columns… or can easily add these fields to a types which will only apply to prospective readers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test field I made and added to a form:
I will not go too much into the shape Stuff here since I have a whole section on this below, but this is the strategy I would recommend if you wished to use this attribute.
Again, as Soon as You’ve gathered your custom field data from fresh Readers, you are able to pull them in to your email content and subject line.
Just click the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Customized field.
I’m barely scratching the surface Of what is possible with custom fields, but it’s important to know that this is a feature you may use.
Overall, it is fair to say MailerLite has their contributor Direction and personalization features on point. Progressive Profiling Email Marketing
If you are not impressed with what you’ve seen so far, then maybe The page builder will tickle your fancy.
After selecting’Landing Pages’ in the forms page, then you will be Able to pick from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template choice Is not winning any awards, but it will offer a fantastic base to work from if, for example the majority people, you do not have that pure eye for design.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, however They all ultimately do the identical job; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will Provide you 17 building blocks to Further construct or alter your landing page.
Now, I’ve used my fair share of Visual page builders, and this is better than some dedicated solutions *cough* WPBakery.
Along with the fundamental building blocks, you can use components like Hero segments, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
No, it won’t be replacing landing Page builders such as Thrive Architect or LeadPagesanytime shortly, but credit where credit due, this item over-delivers on all 3 kind types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email marketing tools, MailerLite actually offers a Decent set of form building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this exact same interface, so there is a whole lot to cover .
Let us start with your Bog-standard embedded form.
These forms are first created inside MailerLite so as to get An embed code, which you can then place on your website to show it on particular pages.
Despite starting off super basic, the form designer lets you To customize everything from the kind style, fields, background, title, enter fields and, clearly, the button.
Form text can also be edited directly, which gives you a Opportunity To visualize your backup in real-time.
It would’ve been nice to have Some templates here, but as you know, there is more to a form than simply its physical appearance.
Clicking on the’Settings’ tab will allow you to configure the way the Form works, such as adding extra fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There’s even a GDPR compliance alternative. Sweet.)
And talking of the success page…
…MailerLite also lets you customize the default message, That will replace the embedded form and prevents users .
Last but certainly not least, you Can assess the way your form screens on cellular by shifting the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t Have the Ability to make any design changes , but it makes Sense to test, nevertheless.
So that’s an overview of the Embedded form but like I said before, you can also create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the Vast Majority of the setup process is identical, you will find A few differences I’d love to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most Comprehensive selection, they do offer a good base to work from and the editor is at least as simple to use for this form type.
Clicking the’E-commerce’ template requires me into a preview Before moving into the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are a few new options under form types Now around:
Contemplating paid tools like Thrive Leads exist for both ribbons and slide-in forms, it is pretty impressive to observe this level of control over popup forms.
And, like before, you can perform the styling options to get it Matched up with your branding.
Finally, you can Select the close Behaviour of your form under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is the X icon, but you can swap out this for A”No thanks” text choice, or have both.
That is really where most email Marketing platforms would leave you, but MailerLite has yet another trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your effort Data in the dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click data, Subscriber development, automation stats, and form signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you special coverage for this effort.
This is where you’ll discover some statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying environment, email client and much more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average user…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into different areas of this report for a more comprehensive breakdown.
You can find some real gems under These reports.
For example, the’View Mail’ tab also displays a click map, so It’s possible to see how your subscribers interacted to another.
Reports for automations are Accessible under the’Automations’ tab, even although I found these to be less enlightening than effort reports.
Here’s a quick example:
Total, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting interface, and many will get the available data more than sufficient to meet their demands.
What is email advertising without a dashboard of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could simply make or break this particular review.
The good news? If you’ve used a visual workflow builder, You will instantly feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, That the automations interface is easy, clean and easy to navigate — something that certainly can’t be said for every email marketing software.
After setting your trigger, you can Start adding measures to your workflow.
These steps can be anything from sending an email, adding a Delay, a conditional split, or an act, such as moving a contributor or upgrading their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I put together, where readers Are unsubscribed when they do not open my email within seven days.
There are countless Possibilities in regards to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite should have no trouble with the vast majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign since it lacks a number of the conditional elements. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.. )
For Instance, there’s currently no automation for moving Readers directly into a different automation.
That being said, most of these activities can Nevertheless Be achieved by moving Subscribers into different classes that trigger new automation workflows. It is simply not as efficient…. yet.
Another matter of efficacy here is when generating new emails From the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email cube to The workflow, you will be asked to add your topic line which appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking on the’Design email’ button will fire up the Writer:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered earlier in the review.
This time, however, as Soon as You’ve established your email, clicking the ‘Done editing’ button will guide you back to the automations workflow rather than the usual sending alternatives.
Ultimately, your email will probably be Loaded into your own automation.
A nice touch here is using a thumbnail preview of your Email inside your automation cube, so it’s possible to get an concept of what it contains at a glance.
While this process may seem like A grind on paper, it’s actually much quicker than what I’m utilized to with other email marketing tools — ActiveCampaign being a fantastic example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something like ConvertKit where The editor is loaded inside the automations builder, so you will likely find this a downgrade in functionality.
It is quick enough for me, Personally, however I guess it’s all relative.
Before I wrap up this segment, there’s 1 Kind of automation You won’t find in MailerLite, and that I think it’s very important to highlight.
The ability to trigger an automation (or measure ) based on how Readers interact with the webpages on your website.
This Sort of behavioral targeting just is not available in MailerLite right now, so if it’s something you use or intend to utilize, you may want to skip this one. Progressive Profiling Email Marketing
The cost of MailerLite is undoubtedly among those tools largest Selling points, and let’s face it, most of us love a fantastic deal.
For starters, they offer an infinite free plan that includes All attributes (including premium) to get up to 1,000 subscribers.
While There’s some subtle Branding on your emails using this plan, it is still an amazing alternative for anyone starting out.
And what about the premium programs?
It turns out, at around half of the Cost of the competition generally, MailerLite is by far one of the cheapest options available on the industry. Additionally, if you’re willing to pay annually, you are also able to get an even greater discount.
In Reality, I haven’t been able to find anything that does exactly the Exact Same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is one of those few email marketing tools The (very crowded) industry in recent years, and that’s no easy feat.
While it is not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it performs exceptionally well at virtually anything you can throw at it.
All in all, I find MailerLite strikes the best balance Between flexibility, simplicity and speed, and at a price point you’ll seriously struggle to conquer.
