Introduction Return Path Email Marketing
If I asked you to name an email Marketing tool, what would you say? Return Path Email Marketing
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like most online industries now, email marketing has been Dominated by the identical large players for the last ten years. Which means they get promoted very heavily and accomplish a lot of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the market, inducing long-time customers to question their loyalties.

Like most email advertising providers Nowadays, You’ll Need to Go through a review process before being able to correctly use the program.
When you first register, you’ll be asked to finish your profile.
This includes information such as your organization name, website, Business, address, business size, record size and even the type of content you plan to send.
Then, you need to verify your Website (or domain ).
This is still part of this acceptance process, and MailerLite will Simply inquire which email is related to that domain in order that they can email you a verification link.
As Soon as You’ve completed those Steps, you ought to wait it out.
The MailerLite team will review your application, check your Website, and ascertain whether you are a good match for their service.
(In other words, they’re making sure you’re not a spammer/scammer)
As shown above, you’ll nevertheless be Able to utilize the software to make campaigns and perform with the features, but you will not be able to send anything before accepted.
I had been”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limit of 500 subscribers.
Here Is What the email said:
However, while these steps are not ideal for getting started, it Does help prevent unscrupulous users from damaging everybody’s deliverability.
If you are anything like me, you’ll rely on automations to handle The majority of your email advertising.
(We’ll get to automations soon, don’t worry.)
But if it is a brand new blog article, podcast, or timely Announcement, there is always some excuse to send a more instant email.
That is where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the brand new’Produce Campaign’ will provide you several options.
– Regular effort: A Conventional broadcast email.
– A/B split campaign: Multiple email Versions, such as subject line, from title and, yes, even email content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to readers who Don’t open your broadcast email, with the choice of changing the subject line and email articles.
– RSS effort: Produce a recurring campaign That sends new content to subscribers using your website’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few added choices, the Majority of these will follow Exactly the same step-by-step procedure of a standard effort.
So let’s walk you through it.
Once you click on to create your effort, you’ll be asked to Pick a preferred editor, whether that be the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
Otherwise, you can change to the Templates tab and choose from one of the pre-designed email templates — which will move you into the dragn’ drop editor by default.
In the time of writing, you’ll find 21 email templates to select From which is a little on the low side, however, the layouts are super modern.
And, of course, if you’d just Prefer to reuse a previous email, you can click on the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this instance, I’ll choose the first template from the library.
The editor is easy to work with, Making viewing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also utilize the cubes in the sidebar to include distinct Types of articles to your email, including videos, merchandise columns, and social connections.
After making your adjustments, just click’Done Editing’ and you will Be taken to the recipients’ choices where you can choose your classes or segments.
The advanced tab also allows one To develop segment-like rules on-the-fly, in case your targeting isn’t quite perfect.
Finally, before sending, you’ll get to the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control if your broadcast email should go Out, if that’s instantly, at a set time/date, or in accordance with your readers time zones.
Impressive, right? Return Path Email Marketing
Handling Your Subscribers
Having granular control over your readers is arguably among The most essential facets of any email advertising program now.
Because highly personalized efforts Are Essential if You’re searching to increase opens, clicks, and, most importantly, your conversions.
And while many providers allow you to”tag” subscribers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite uses a slightly different approach.
When you open up your subscriber dash, you’ll see two Options; Segments and Groups.
Segments are essentially rules.
Your subscribers belong to a section only when they meet the Specified rules, and are automatically added or removed accordingly.
Here is what setting up a rule looks like:
Notice the way you can also blend Principles, in addition to an alternate rule if the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The next tab is for groups, and despite the difference in title, These behave much like your usual”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the name to’Tags’, but ultimately decided against it.)
Contrary to Segments, Groups are updated manually or via an Automation principle — which we will get to in a moment — and they don’t have any value aside from what you call them.
As you Begin to use this stage, you’ll Start to understand Where Segments and Groups are generally used, however, MailerLite delivers a hand in the event you’re unsure:
Basically, groups are much more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments permit you to bulge multiple subscribers together according to a frequent denominator.
A tad confusing, I will admit… but I believe it is a fair trade-off For the additional flexibility. Besides, they’re optional.
Last, the’Fields’ tab is used to customize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this area with their particular areas, such as name, business, and nation.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do this by Clicking the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your readers along with Your custom field information in distinct columns… or may easily add these fields to a types which will only apply to future readers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test field I made and added into a form:
I won’t go too much to the form Stuff here since I have an entire section on this below, but this is the approach I would recommend if you wished to use this feature.
Again, as Soon as You’ve gathered your custom field information from new Readers, you are able to pull them in to your email content and subject line.
Just click the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Customized field.
I am barely scratching the surface Of what is possible with custom fields, but it is important that you know that this is a feature you can use.
Overall, it’s fair to say MailerLite has their contributor Direction and personalization features on stage. Return Path Email Marketing
If you’re not impressed by what you’ve seen so far, then maybe The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ in the forms page, you’ll be Able to select from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template selection Is not winning any awards, it does offer a fantastic base to work from if, for example the majority people, you do not have that natural eye for design.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, however They ultimately do the same task; accumulate an email address.
This time, the editor will Provide you 17 building blocks to Further construct or change your landing page.
Now, I’ve used my fair share of Visual site builders, and this is better than a few dedicated alternatives *Infection * WPBakery.
Along with the fundamental building blocks, you can use elements like Hero sections, popup buttons, reviews and countdown timers.
No, it won’t be replacing landing Page builders such as Thrive Architect or even LeadPagesanytime soon, but credit where credit due, this thing over-delivers on all three kind types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email marketing tools, MailerLite actually offers a Adequate pair of form building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this same interface, so there is a whole lot to cover here.
Let’s begin with your Bog-standard embedded form.
These forms are created inside MailerLite so as to get An embed code, which you can then place on your website to show it on particular pages.
Despite beginning super fundamental, the form designer lets you To customize everything from the form style, fields, background, title, input fields and, clearly, the button.
Form text can also be edited directly, which Provides you a chance To envision your own backup in real-time.
It would’ve been nice to have Some templates here, but as you know, there’s more to a form than simply its physical appearance.
Clicking on the’Settings’ tab will allow you to configure how the Form functions, such as adding additional fields and setting a custom success page.
(There’s even a GDPR compliance alternative. Sweet.)
And talking of the success webpage…
…MailerLite also lets you customize the default message, Which will replace the embedded form and prevents users from redirecting.
Last but certainly not least, you Can check the way your form screens on mobile by shifting the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t be able to make any design changes here, but it makes Sense to check, nevertheless.
So that is an Summary of the Embedded form but as I said before, you may even create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the majority of the setup process is identical, there are A few differences I’d like to point out.
Unlike embedded forms, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most Comprehensive selection, they do offer a good foundation to work from and the editor is at least as easy to use for this form type.
Clicking on the’E-commerce’ template takes me into a preview Before moving into the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are a few new choices under form types This time around:
Contemplating paid tools such as Thrive Leads exist for both ribbons and slide-in forms, it is pretty impressive to see this level of control over popup forms.
And, as before, you can perform with the styling options to get it Matched up with your own branding.
Last, you can choose the close Behaviour of your form under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is that the X icon, but you can swap out this for A”No thanks” text option, or have .
That is where most email Marketing platforms would leave you, but MailerLite has yet another trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Data in the main dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click info, Subscriber growth, automation analytics, and form signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you special coverage for this effort.
This is where you’ll discover some statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, reading environment, email client and much more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average user…
…but if you really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into individual areas of the report for a more detailed breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.
For example, the’View Mail’ tab also shows a click map, so You can see your subscribers interacted with your mails in relation to another.
Reports for automations are also Accessible under the’Automations’ tab, though I found these to be less enlightening than campaign reports.
Here’s a Fast example:
Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting interface, and many will get the available statistics more than sufficient to meet their demands.
What is email advertising with no dashboard of automation?
For many reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could simply make or break this review.
The good news? If you have ever used a visual workflow builder, then You will instantly feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, That the automations interface is simple, clean and easy to navigate — something that certainly can’t be said for every email advertising software.
After setting your trigger, you can Start adding steps to your workflow.
These measures can be anything from sending an email, adding a Delay, a conditional split, or an action, such as transferring a contributor or upgrading their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I set together, where subscribers Are unsubscribed if they do not open my email within 7 days.
There are countless Possibilities in regards to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite should not have any trouble with the vast majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign because it lacks a number of the conditional elements. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.)
For Instance, there’s now no automation for transferring Readers directly into a different automation.
That being said, the Majority of these actions can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into various classes that activate new automation workflows. It is just not as effective…. yet.
Another matter of efficiency here is when creating new emails In the automation workflow builder.
After having an email block to The workflow, you’ll be asked to put in your topic line that then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking on the’Design email’ button will automatically fire up the Editor:
Now, you’ll be temporarily Redirected to the standard campaign creation wizard, which I covered earlier in the review.
This time, but once you’ve created your email, clicking the ‘Done editing’ button will guide you back into the automations workflow rather than the usual sending options.
Ultimately, your email address will be Loaded into your automation.
A Wonderful touch here is having a thumbnail preview of your Email within your automation block, so it’s possible to find an concept of what it contains at a glance.
While this procedure may seem like A grind on newspaper, it is actually much faster than what I am used to with other email advertising tools — ActiveCampaign being a fantastic example.
On the other hand, if you’ve come over from something like ConvertKit where The editor is loaded inside the automations builder, you will probably find that this downgrade in performance.
It is fast enough for me, Personally, however I guess it is all relative.
Before I wrap up this section, there’s one type of automation You won’t find in MailerLite, and that I think it’s very important to highlight.
The ability to activate an automation (or step) based on how Readers interact with the webpages on your website.
This Sort of behavioral targeting just is not accessible MailerLite at this time, so if it’s something you use or intend to use, you may want to skip this one. Return Path Email Marketing
The cost of MailerLite is among those tools biggest Selling points, and let us face it, most of us love a fantastic bargain.
For starters, they offer an infinite free plan that includes All attributes (including premium) to get up to 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding on your emails using this program, it’s still an amazing option for anyone starting out.
And what about the top programs?
It ends up, at around half of the Price of this competition on average, MailerLite is undoubtedly among the cheapest options available on the industry. Plus, if you are ready to pay yearly, you are also able to get a much better discount.
In fact, I haven’t been able to find anything that does exactly the Exact Same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is among those very few email marketing tools to interrupt The (very crowded) sector in recent years, which is no easy feat.
While it’s not as quickly as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it performs exceptionally well at just about anything you can throw at it.
All in all, I find MailerLite strikes the best balance Between flexibility, simplicity and speed, and at a price point you’ll seriously struggle to beat.
