Background Simple Email Marketing Software
When I asked you to name an email Marketing tool, what would you say? Simple Email Marketing Software
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?

Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the marketplace, causing long-time users to question their loyalties.

Like most email advertising providers these days, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to correctly use the program.
When you first register, you’ll be asked to finish your profile.
This includes information such as your organization name, site, Business, address, company size, record size and even the type of content you plan to send.
Then, You Have to verify your Website (or domain ).
This remains part of this acceptance process, and MailerLite will Simply inquire which email is associated to that domain so they could email you a verification link.
As Soon as You’ve completed those Steps, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite staff will review your application, assess your Site, and ascertain whether you are a good match for their services.
(In other words, they’re making sure you’re not a spammer/scammer)
As shown above, you’ll still be Able to utilize the software to create campaigns and play with the features, but you won’t have the ability to send anything before approved.
I was”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limitation of 500 subscribers.
Here Is What the email said:
However, while these steps are not perfect for getting started, it Does help prevent malicious users from hurting everyone else’s deliverability.
If you are anything like me, you’ll rely upon automations to Deal with Nearly all your email advertising.
(We’ll get to automations soon, don’t worry.)
But whether it is a new blog article, podcast, or timely Announcement, there is always a reason to send a more instant email.
That is where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the new’Create Campaign’ will give you several options.
– Regular campaign: A Conventional broadcast email.
– A/B split campaign: Multiple email Versions, including subject line, from title and, yes, even email content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to subscribers who Don’t start your broadcast email, with the choice of changing the subject line and email articles.
– RSS campaign: Create a recurring campaign That sends new content to subscribers using your site’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few additional choices, most of these will follow Exactly the same step-by-step procedure of a standard effort.
So let’s walk you through it.
Once you click on to create your effort, you’ll be requested to Select a favorite editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
You can switch to the Templates tab and select from among the pre-designed email templates — that will move you into the dragn’ drop editor by default.
At the time of writing, you’ll find 21 email templates to select From which is somewhat on the low side, however, the designs are super modern.
And, of course, if you’d just Like to reuse a previous email, you can click on the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this example, I’ll choose the first template in the library.
The editor is easy to work with, Making customizing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the cubes in the sidebar to add different Types of content to your email, including videos, product columns, and social links.
After making your adjustments, simply click’Done Editing’ and you will Be taken to the recipients’ choices where you can choose your classes or sections.
The tab also allows one To develop segment-like rules on-the-fly, in the event your targeting isn’t quite perfect.
Finally, before sending, you’ll get into the’Schedule’ screen.
This is where you control if your broadcast email should go Out, whether that’s instantly, at a set time/date, or in accordance with your subscribers time zones.
Impressive, right? Simple Email Marketing Software
Managing Your Clients
Possessing granular control over your subscribers is arguably one of The most important facets of any email advertising program today.
Because highly personalized campaigns are necessary if You’re searching to increase clicks, opens, and, above all, your own conversions.
And while most providers Permit You to”tag” subscribers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite uses a slightly different strategy.
When you open up your subscriber dashboard, you’ll notice two Choices; Segments and Groups.
Segments are essentially principles.
Your readers belong to a section only when they meet the Specified principles, and will be automatically added or removed accordingly.
Here’s what establishing a rule looks like:
Notice how you can also blend Rules, in addition to another rule if the first doesn’t exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The next tab is for groups, and despite the difference in name, These behave much like your normal”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the title to’Tags’, but ultimately decided against it.)
Contrary to Segments, Groups are updated manually or through an Automation principle — that we will get into in a moment — and they have no value besides what you call them.
As you start to use this stage, you’ll begin to understand Where Segments and Groups are generally used, but MailerLite offers a hand in the event you’re unsure:
Fundamentally, groups are more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber foundation, whereas Segments allow you to bulge multiple contributors together according to a common denominator.
Somewhat confusing, I will admit… but I believe it’s a fair trade-off For the additional flexibility. In any case, they are optional.
Finally, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this region with their own areas, such as name, company, and nation.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do so by Clicking on the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV file of your subscribers along with Your custom field data in separate columns… or may simply add these fields to your types which will only apply to prospective readers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test area I created and added to a form:
I won’t go too much into the shape Stuff here because I have a whole section on that below, but this is the strategy I would recommend if you wanted to use this attribute.
Again, as Soon as You’ve collected your custom field information from fresh Readers, you can pull them in to your email content and subject line.
Just click on the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Custom field.
I am barely scraping the surface Of what’s possible with custom fields, but it’s important to understand this is a feature you may use.
Overall, it’s fair to state MailerLite has their subscriber Management and personalization features on point. Simple Email Marketing Software
If you are not impressed with what you’ve seen up to Now, then maybe The page builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ in the forms page, then you will be Able to select from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template choice Isn’t winning any awards, but it will offer a great foundation to work from if, for example most people, you don’t have that pure eye for design.
I went ahead and selected the’Lead Generation’ template, however They all finally do the same job; accumulate an email address.
This time, the editor will give you 17 building blocks to Further build or change your landing page.
Now, I’ve used my fair share of Visual site builders, and it is already better than a few dedicated alternatives *cough* WPBakery.
Along with the basic building blocks, you can use elements like Hero sections, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
No, it will not be replacing landing Page builders like Thrive Architect or even LeadPagesanytime soon, but credit where credit due, this item over-delivers on all 3 form types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email marketing tools, MailerLite actually offers a Adequate set of form building tools.
Also, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this exact same interface, so there’s a lot to cover here.
Let us start with your Bog-standard embedded form.
These forms are created inside MailerLite in order to get An embed code, which you can then put on your website to show it on particular pages.
Despite beginning super fundamental, the form designer allows you To personalize everything from the form style, subjects, background, title, input fields and, clearly, the button.
Form text can also be edited directly, which gives you a chance To visualize your copy in real-time.
It would’ve been nice to have Some templates, but as you know, there’s more to some form than simply its physical appearance.
Clicking on the’Settings’ tab will allow you to configure how the Form works, including adding additional fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There’s a GDPR compliance alternative. Sweet.)
And talking of the success page…
…MailerLite also lets you customize the default message, Which will replace the embedded kind and prevents users .
Last but certainly not least, you Can check how your form screens on mobile by shifting the toggle to responsive mode.
You won’t be able to make any layout changes , but it makes Sense to test, nevertheless.
So that’s an Summary of the Embedded form but as I said before, you can even create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the Vast Majority of the setup process is identical, you will find A few differences I’d love to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most In depth choice, they do provide a good base to work from and the editor is just as easy to use with this form type.
Clicking the’E-commerce’ template takes me to a preview Before moving to the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are some new choices under form types Now around:
Contemplating paid programs such as Thrive Leads exist for ribbons and slide-in forms, it’s pretty impressive to see this amount of control over popup forms.
And, like before, you can play the styling options to get it Matched with your branding.
Last, you can choose the close Behavior of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is the X icon, but you can swap out this for A”No thanks” text choice, or have .
This is where most email Marketing platforms will leave you, but MailerLite has yet another trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your effort Statistics in the main dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from campaign open and click info, Subscriber growth, automation analytics, and form signups.
Clicking into any effort will Give you specific coverage for this campaign.
This is where you’ll find a few more advanced statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, reading environment, email client and more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average user…
…but if you really want To dig into the numbers, it is possible to click into different areas of this report to get a more detailed breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.
For example, the’View Email’ tab also shows a click map, so You can see exactly how your subscribers interacted with your emails compared to one another.
Reports for automations are Available under the’Automations’ tab, although I found these to be less insightful than effort reports.
Here’s a quick example:
Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting port, and many will get the available data more than sufficient to meet their demands.
What’s email marketing with no dashboard of automation?
For many reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could simply make or break this particular review.
The good news? If you’ve ever used a visual workflow builder, then You will immediately feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, The automations interface is easy, clean and easy to navigate — something that certainly can’t be said for each and every email advertising program.
After establishing your trigger, you can Start adding steps to your workflow.
These steps could be anything from sending an email, adding a Delay, a conditional split, or an action, such as transferring a contributor or upgrading their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I put together, where readers Are unsubscribed if they do not open my email within seven days.
There are innumerable Possibilities in regards to workflow automations similar to this, and MailerLite should not have any trouble with the vast majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something such as ActiveCampaign because it lacks some of the conditional components. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.. )
For example, there’s currently no automation for transferring Subscribers directly into a different automation.
That being said, most of these actions can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into various classes that activate new automation workflows. It is simply not as effective…. yet.
Another question of efficacy here is when creating new emails In the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email block to The workflow, you’ll be asked to add your subject line which appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking the’Design email’ button will fire up the Editor:
Now, you’ll be temporarily Redirected to the standard campaign creation wizard, which I covered previously in the review.
This time, however, as Soon as You’ve established your email, clicking the ‘Done editing’ button will guide you back to the automations workflow rather than the usual sending options.
Ultimately, your email address will probably be Loaded into your own automation.
A Wonderful touch here is using a thumbnail preview of your Email within your automation block, so you can find an idea about what it contains at a glimpse.
While this procedure may seem like A grind on paper, it’s really much faster than what I am utilized to with other email advertising tools — ActiveCampaign being a fantastic example.
On the other hand, if you’ve come over from something like ConvertKit where The editor is loaded within the automations builder, so you will likely find that this downgrade in functionality.
It’s quick enough for me, Personally, but I guess it is all relative.
Before I wrap up this section, there’s 1 type of automation You will not find in MailerLite, and I think it’s important to highlight.
The ability to activate an automation (or measure ) based on how Readers interact with all the webpages on your website.
This kind of behavioral targeting just isn’t available in MailerLite right now, so if it’s something you use or plan to use, you may want to skip this one. Simple Email Marketing Software
The cost of MailerLite is no doubt one of those tools largest Selling things, and let’s face it, we all love a good bargain.
For starters, they offer an infinite free plan that includes All features (including premium) for up to 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding on your mails using this plan, it is still an wonderful option for those starting out.
And what about the top programs?
It turns out, at around half the Cost of this competition generally, MailerLite is undoubtedly one of the least expensive options available on the market. Plus, if you are willing to pay yearly, you are also able to get an even better discount.
In Reality, I haven’t been able to find anything that does exactly the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is among the very few email marketing tools to interrupt The (very crowded) sector in recent years, and that’s no easy feat.
While it is not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it works exceptionally well at virtually anything you can throw at it.
I find MailerLite strikes the best balance Between flexibility, speed and simplicity, and all at a price point you will seriously struggle to beat.
