Like most email marketing providers these days, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to correctly use the program.
When you first register, you’ll be asked to complete your profile.
This includes information such as your company name, website, Industry, address, company size, record size and even the type of content you plan to send.
Then, You Have to verify your Site (or domain name).
This remains part of the approval process, and MailerLite will Simply ask which email is related to this domain in order that they can email you a verification link.
As Soon as You’ve completed these Steps, you ought to wait it out.
The MailerLite staff will review your application, assess your Website, and ascertain whether you’re a good fit for their service.
(Quite simply, they’re making sure you’re not a spammer/scammer)
As shown above, you’ll nevertheless be Able to use the software to create campaigns and perform with the features, but you won’t be able to send anything until accepted.
I had been”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limitation of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
But while these measures are not perfect for getting started, it Does help prevent malicious users from damaging everybody’s deliverability.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll rely on automations to handle Nearly all your email marketing.
(We’ll get to automations soon, don’t worry.)
But if it is a new blog post, podcast, or timely Announcement, there is always some excuse to send a more immediate email.
That is where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the brand new’Produce Campaign’ will give you several options.
– Regular effort: A traditional broadcast email.
– A/B split effort: Multiple email Variations, including subject line, from name and, yes, even content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to subscribers who Do not open your broadcast email, with the choice of altering the subject line and email content.
– RSS effort: Create a recurring campaign That sends fresh content to readers using your site’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few added options, most of these will follow Exactly the same step-by-step procedure of a normal effort.
So let us walk you through it.
Once you click to create your effort, you’ll be asked to Pick a preferred editor, whether that be the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
You can switch to the Templates tab and choose from among the pre-designed email templates — that will move you into the dragn’ drop editor .
At the time of writing, you’ll find 21 email templates to choose From which is somewhat on the low side, however, the layouts are super modern.
And, of course, if you would just Prefer to reuse a previous email, you can click the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this instance, I will select the first template from the library.
The editor is easy to use, Making customizing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the blocks in the sidebar to add distinct Kinds of articles to your email, including videos, product columns, and social connections.
After making your changes, just click’Done Editing’ and you will Be taken to the recipients’ choices where you are able to select your groups or segments.
The advanced tab also allows you To build segment-like rules on-the-fly, in case your targeting is not quite right.
Finally, before sending, then you’ll get into the’Schedule’ screen.
This is where you control when your broadcast email should go Out, if that’s immediately, at a set time/date, or according to your subscribers time zones.
Impressive, right? Solution Email Marketing
Managing Your Subscribers
Possessing granular control over your subscribers is arguably among The most essential facets of any email advertising software today.
Because highly personalized campaigns Are Essential if You’re looking to increase clicks, opens, and, above all, your own conversions.
And while most providers allow you to”label” subscribers in order To target them more effectively, MailerLite uses a slightly different strategy.
When you open up your subscriber dash, you’ll see two Choices; Segments and Groups.
Segments are basically rules.
Your subscribers belong to a section only when they meet the Specified principles, and will be automatically inserted or eliminated accordingly.
Here’s what setting up a rule looks like:
Notice the way you can also combine Rules, in addition to an alternate rule when the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The next tab is for classes, and despite the difference in title, These act much like your normal”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the title to’Tags’, but finally decided against it)
Contrary to Segments, Groups are updated manually or via an Automation rule — that we’ll get into in a minute — and they don’t have any value aside from what you call them.
As you start to use this stage, you’ll begin to understand Where Segments and Groups are typically used, however, MailerLite offers a hand in the event you’re uncertain:
Basically, groups are much more of a Deliberate action on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments permit you to bulge multiple subscribers together according to a frequent denominator.
Somewhat confusing, I’ll admit… but I feel it is a fair trade-off For the additional flexibility. Besides, they are discretionary.
Last, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You will notice that MailerLite has Already populated this area with their own areas, such as name, company, and nation.
If You Would like to create your own custom fields, you can do this by Clicking on the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they actually work?
You can either upload a CSV file of your subscribers along with Your custom field information in distinct columns… or can easily add these fields to your types which will only apply to prospective readers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test area I created and added into a form:
I will not go too much to the shape Things here since I have a whole section on that below, but this is the approach I would recommend if you wanted to use this feature.
Again, as Soon as You’ve gathered your custom field data from new Readers, you can pull them into your email content and subject line.
Just click the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Custom field.
I am barely scraping the surface Of what is possible with custom fields, but it is important to know this is a feature you can use.
Overall, it’s reasonable to say MailerLite has their contributor Direction and personalization features on stage. Solution Email Marketing
If you’re not impressed with what you’ve seen up to Now, then maybe The page builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ in the forms page, then you will be Able to select from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template choice Is not winning any awards, it does offer a great foundation to work from if, like most of us, you do not have that pure eye for design.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, though They finally do the identical job; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will Provide you 17 building blocks to Further build or change your landing page.
Now, I have used my fair share of Visual page builders, and this is already better than a few dedicated solutions *cough* WPBakery.
Along with the fundamental building blocks, you can use elements like Hero sections, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
It will not be replacing landing Page builders like Thrive Architect or even LeadPagesanytime soon, but credit where credit due, this thing over-delivers on all 3 form types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email marketing tools, MailerLite really offers a Decent pair of form building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this same interface, so there’s a lot to cover .
Let’s start with your Bog-standard embedded type.
These forms are first created inside MailerLite so as to get An embed code, which you can then put on your site to display it on particular pages.
Despite starting off super basic, the form designer allows you To customize everything from the kind style, subjects, background, title, input fields and, clearly, the button.
Form text may also be edited directly, which Provides you a Opportunity To envision your own backup in real-time.
It would have been nice to have Some templates, but as you know, there’s more to a form than simply its physical appearance.
Clicking the’Settings’ tab will Make It Possible for you to configure the way the Form works, including adding additional fields and setting a custom success page.
(There’s even a GDPR compliance option. Sweet.)
And talking of the success page…
…MailerLite also lets you customize the default message, Which will replace the embedded form also prevents users from redirecting.
Last but certainly not least, you Can assess how your form screens on mobile by switching the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t be able to make any design changes , but it makes Sense to check, nevertheless.
So that’s an overview of this Embedded form but as I said before, you can also create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the Vast Majority of the installation Procedure is identical, you will find A few differences I’d like to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most Comprehensive choice, they do offer a fantastic foundation to work from and the editor is just as easy to use for this form type.
Clicking on the’E-commerce’ template takes me to a preview Before moving to the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are some new choices under form types Now around:
Contemplating paid tools such as Thrive Leads exist for both ribbons and slide-in forms, it’s pretty impressive to see this level of control over popup types.
And, like before, you can perform the styling options to get it Matched with your own branding.
Finally, you can Select the near Behavior of your form under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is the X icon, but you can swap out this for A”No thanks” text option, or have both.
This is really where most email Marketing platforms would render you, but MailerLite has one more trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your effort Statistics in the main dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click info, Subscriber growth, automation analytics, and form signups.
Clicking into any effort will Give you special reporting for that effort.
This is where you’ll find some more advanced statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, reading surroundings, email client and much more.
This should be plenty of Information for the ordinary user…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into different areas of this report for a more comprehensive breakdown.
You can find some real gems under These reports.
For example, the’View Email’ tab also displays a click map, so You can see your readers interacted with your emails in relation to one another.
Reports for automations are Accessible under the’Automations’ tab, though I found these to be less enlightening than campaign reports.
Here’s a Fast example:
Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting interface, and most will get the available data more than enough to meet their needs.
What’s email marketing with no dashboard of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could easily make or break this review.
The great news? If you’ve used a visual workflow builder, then You’ll immediately feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, That the automations interface is easy, clean and simple to navigate — something which certainly can’t be said for every email marketing program.
After setting your trigger, you can Start adding steps to your workflow.
These steps can be anything from sending an email, including a Delay, a bubble break, or an action, such as transferring a contributor or upgrading their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I set together, where readers Are unsubscribed when they don’t open my email within 7 days.
There are countless Possibilities in regards to workflow automations similar to this, and MailerLite should have no trouble with the vast majority of use cases.
Granted, it is not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign since it lacks a number of the conditional components. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.. )
For example, there’s currently no automation for transferring Subscribers directly into another automation.
That being said, most of these activities can Nevertheless Be achieved by moving Subscribers into different classes that activate new automation workflows. It is just much less effective…. yet.
Another question of efficiency here is when generating new emails In the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email block to The workflow, you’ll be asked to put in your topic line which then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking the’Design email’ button will fire up the Writer:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the standard campaign creation wizard, which I covered previously in the review.
This time, but as Soon as You’ve established your email, clicking the ‘Done editing’ button will guide you back to the automations workflow instead of the usual sending options.
Finally, your email address will be Loaded into your automation.
A Wonderful touch here is having a thumbnail preview of your Email inside your automation block, which means it’s possible to find an concept of what it contains at a glance.
While this process may seem like A grind on paper, it’s really much quicker than what I’m used to with other email advertising tools — ActiveCampaign being a great example.
On the other hand, if you’ve come over from something like ConvertKit where The editor is loaded inside the automations builder, you’ll probably find this a downgrade in functionality.
It’s fast enough for me, Personally, however I guess it’s all relative.
Before I wrap up this segment, there is 1 type of automation You won’t find in MailerLite, and that I think it’s important to highlight.
The ability to trigger an automation (or measure ) based on the way Subscribers interact with all the webpages on your website.
This Sort of behavioral targeting just isn’t available in MailerLite at this time, so if it’s something you use or intend to use, you might want to skip this one. Solution Email Marketing
The cost of MailerLite is undoubtedly among the tools biggest Selling things, and let us face it, we all love a good bargain.
For starters, they offer an infinite free plan that includes All features (including premium) for up to 1,000 subscribers.
While There’s some subtle Branding in your emails using this program, it’s still an wonderful option for anyone starting out.
And what about the top plans?
It turns out, at around half of the Cost of the rivalry generally, MailerLite is undoubtedly among the least expensive options available on the industry. Additionally, if you’re ready to pay annually, you can also get a much greater discount.
In Reality, I have not been able to find anything that does the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is among the email advertising tools to disrupt The (very crowded) sector in the last couple of years, and that’s no simple feat.
While it is not as quickly as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it works exceptionally well at just about anything you can throw at it.
Overall, I find MailerLite strikes the best balance Between flexibility, speed and simplicity, and at a price point you’ll seriously struggle to conquer.
