If I asked you to name an email Marketing instrument, what could you say? Streamsend
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like most online businesses today, email marketing continues to be Dominated by the same big players for the previous decade. Which means that they get encouraged very deeply and accomplish a great deal of mindshare.

Like most email advertising providers Nowadays, You’ll Need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the software.
When you first register, you’ll be asked to complete your profile.
This includes information such as your company name, site, Industry, address, business size, list size and even the kind of material you intend to send.
Then, you need to verify your Site (or domain name).
This is still part of this acceptance process, and MailerLite will Simply inquire which email is related to that domain in order that they can email you a verification link.
As Soon as You’ve completed those Steps, you ought to wait it out.
The MailerLite team will review your application, assess your Website, and determine whether you’re a fantastic match for their services.
(In other words, they’re making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)
As shown above, you’ll still be Able to use the software to make campaigns and play with the attributes, but you won’t have the ability to send anything until accepted.
I was”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limitation of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
However, while these steps are not perfect for getting started, it Does help stop malicious users from damaging everybody’s deliverability.
If you are anything like me, you’ll rely upon automations to handle Nearly all your email advertising.
(We will get to automations soon, don’t worry.)
But whether it is a new blog article, podcast, or timely Announcement, there’s always some excuse to send a more instant email.
That is where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the new’Produce Campaign’ will give you several options.
– Regular effort: A Conventional broadcast email.
– A/B split campaign: Multiple email Variations, including subject line, from title and, yes, even email content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to readers who Do not start your broadcast email, together with the option of changing the subject line and email articles.
– RSS effort: Create a recurring campaign That sends fresh content to subscribers using your site’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few additional choices, the Majority of these will follow The same step-by-step process of a standard campaign.
So let’s walk you through it.
As Soon as You click on to create your campaign, you’ll be requested to Select a favorite editor, whether that be the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
Otherwise, you can switch to the Templates tab and choose from among their pre-designed email templates — that will move you to the dragn’ drop editor by default.
In the time of writing, there are 21 email templates to select From which is a little on the low side, however, the designs are super modern.
And, of course, if you’d just Prefer to reuse a previous email, you can click on the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this instance, I will choose the first template in the library.
The editor is easy to use, Which makes customizing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also utilize the blocks in the sidebar to include distinct Kinds of articles to your email, including videos, merchandise columns, and social connections.
After making your adjustments, just click’Done Editing’ and you will Be carried to the recipients’ choices where you can select your classes or sections.
The advanced tab also allows one To build segment-like rules on-the-fly, in case your targeting isn’t quite right.
Finally, before sending, you’ll get to the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control if your broadcast email should go Out, whether that is instantly, at a set time/date, or in accordance with your readers time zones.
Impressive, right? Streamsend
Managing Your Subscribers
Having granular control over your subscribers is arguably among The most important facets of any email advertising software today.
Because highly personalized campaigns Are Essential if You’re searching to increase opens, clicks, and, most importantly, your conversions.
And while most providers allow you to”tag” subscribers in order To target them more effectively, MailerLite utilizes a slightly different strategy.
When you start up your subscriber dashboard, you’ll see two Choices; Segments and Groups.
Segments are basically principles.
Your subscribers belong to a section only when they meet the Specified principles, and will be automatically added or eliminated accordingly.
Here’s what setting up a rule looks like:
Notice how you can also blend Rules, in addition to an alternate rule when the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The following tab is for classes, and also the difference in name, These behave much like your normal”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the title to’Tags’, but finally decided against it.)
Unlike Segments, Groups are updated manually or through an Automation rule — that we’ll get into in a moment — and they have no value besides what you actually call them.
As you start to use this stage, you’ll Start to understand Where Segments and Groups are typically used, however, MailerLite delivers a hand in case you’re unsure:
Basically, groups are more of a Deliberate action on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments allow you to bulge multiple contributors together according to a common denominator.
Somewhat confusing, I will admit… but I feel it’s a fair trade-off For the additional flexibility. In any case, they’re optional.
Last, the’Fields’ tab is used to customize your email copy.
You will notice that MailerLite has Already populated this region with their own fields, such as name, company, and nation.
If You Would like to create your own custom fields, you can do this by Clicking the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they actually work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your readers together with Your custom field data in separate columns… or may simply add these fields to a forms which will only apply to future subscribers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test field I made and added to a form:
I will not go too much to the shape Things here since I have an entire section on that below, but this is the strategy I would recommend if you wanted to use this feature.
Again, as Soon as You’ve collected your custom field information from fresh Subscribers, you are able to pull them into your email content and subject line.
Just click on the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Custom field.
I am barely scratching the surface Of what’s possible with custom fields, but it is important to know that this is a feature you can use.
Overall, it is reasonable to say MailerLite has their contributor Direction and personalization features on stage. Streamsend
If you are not impressed by what you have seen up to Now, then perhaps The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ from the forms page, then you will be Able to pick from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template selection Is not winning any awards, it will offer a fantastic foundation to work from if, like most of us, you don’t have that natural eye for layout.
I went ahead and selected the’Lead Generation’ template, however They ultimately do the same job; accumulate an email address.
This time, the editor will Provide you 17 building blocks to Further construct or alter your landing page.
Now, I’ve used my fair share of Visual page builders, and this is better than a few dedicated alternatives *Infection * WPBakery.
Together with the basic building blocks, you can use elements like Hero sections, popup buttons, reviews and countdown timers.
It won’t be replacing landing Page builders such as Thrive Architect or LeadPagesanytime shortly, but credit where credit due, this thing over-delivers on all 3 kind types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email marketing tools, MailerLite really offers a Adequate pair of form building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this exact same interface, so there is a lot to cover .
Let us begin with your Bog-standard embedded form.
These forms are created inside MailerLite so as to get An embed code, which you can then put on your website to display it on specific pages.
Despite starting off super fundamental, the form designer allows you To personalize everything in the form style, fields, background, name, enter fields and, clearly, the button.
Form text can also be edited directly, which gives you a chance To visualize your backup in real-time.
It would have been nice to have Some templates, but as you know, there’s more to some form than simply its physical appearance.
Clicking the’Settings’ tab will Make It Possible for you to configure the way the Form functions, including adding additional fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There’s even a GDPR compliance alternative. Sweet.)
And talking of the success page…
…MailerLite also lets you customize the default message, That can replace the embedded kind also prevents users .
Last but surely not least, you Can assess how your form displays on mobile by shifting the toggle to responsive mode.
You won’t be able to make any design changes here, but it makes Sense to test, nevertheless.
So that is an overview of the Embedded form but as I said before, you may even create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the majority of the installation Procedure is identical, you will find A few differences I’d like to point out.
Unlike embedded forms, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most In depth selection, they do provide a fantastic foundation to work from and the editor is just as simple to use with this form kind.
Clicking on the’E-commerce’ template takes me into a preview Before moving to the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are a few new choices under form types This time around:
Considering paid tools like Thrive Leads exist for ribbons and slide-in forms, it’s pretty impressive to observe this amount of control over popup forms.
And, like before, you can perform with the styling options to get it Matched up with your own branding.
Last, you can Select the close Behavior of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is that the X icon, but you can swap this out for A”No thanks” text option, or have both.
That is really where most email Marketing platforms will leave you, but MailerLite has yet another trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like most tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Data in the main dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from campaign open and click info, Subscriber growth, automation stats, and kind signups.
Clicking into any effort will Give you specific coverage for that campaign.
This is where you’ll find a few more advanced statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying environment, email client and more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average user…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, it is possible to click into individual areas of this report for a more detailed breakdown.
You can find some real gems under These reports.
For example, the’View Email’ tab also shows a click map, so You can see exactly how your subscribers interacted to another.
Reports for automations will also be Available under the’Automations’ tab, although I found to be less insightful than effort reports.
Here’s a Fast example:
Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting port, and many will get the available data more than sufficient to meet their demands.
What’s email marketing with no dash of automation?
For many reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could simply make or break this particular review.
The good news? If you’ve used a visual workflow builder, then You will instantly feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, That the automations interface is easy, clean and easy to navigate — something that certainly can’t be said for every email advertising software.
After setting your trigger, you can Start adding measures to your workflow.
These steps can be anything from sending an email, adding a Delay, a bubble break, or an act, like transferring a subscriber or updating their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I set together, where readers Are unsubscribed when they don’t open my email within 7 days.
There are countless Possibilities in regards to workflow automations similar to this, and MailerLite ought to have no trouble with the huge majority of use cases.
Granted, it is not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign since it lacks some of the conditional components. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.. )
For Instance, there’s currently no automation for transferring Subscribers directly into a different automation.
That being said, most of these activities can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into various classes that trigger new automation workflows. It is just much less effective…. yet.
Another question of efficiency here is when creating new mails In the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email cube to The workflow, you’ll be asked to add your subject line that then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking on the’Design email’ button will fire up the Writer:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered previously in the critique.
This time, but once you’ve established your email, clicking the ‘Done editing’ button will direct you straight back to the automations workflow rather than the usual sending options.
Ultimately, your email will be Loaded into your own automation.
A nice touch here is using a thumbnail preview of your Email inside your automation cube, which means it’s possible to find an idea about what it contains at a glimpse.
While this process may seem like A grind on paper, it’s actually much quicker than what I’m utilized to with other email marketing tools — ActiveCampaign being a fantastic example.
On the other hand, if you’ve come over from something such as ConvertKit where The editor is loaded within the automations builder, you will probably find this a downgrade in functionality.
It’s fast enough for me, Personally, but I guess it is all relative.
Before I wrap up this segment, there’s one type of automation You won’t find in MailerLite, also that I think that it’s important to highlight.
The ability to activate an automation (or measure ) based on the way Readers interact with the pages on your site.
This Sort of behavioral targeting just isn’t available in MailerLite right now, so if it’s something you use or plan to utilize, you may want to skip this one. Streamsend
The cost of MailerLite is among those tools biggest Selling points, and let’s face it, we all love a fantastic deal.
For starters, they offer an unlimited free plan that includes All features (including premium) for up to 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding in your emails using this program, it is still an wonderful alternative for anyone starting out.
And what about the premium programs?
It ends up, at around half the Cost of the rivalry on average, MailerLite is undoubtedly among the cheapest options available on the industry. Plus, if you’re ready to pay yearly, you are also able to get an even greater discount.
In fact, I haven’t been able to locate anything that does exactly the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is one of those few marketing tools to disrupt The (very crowded) sector in the last couple of years, and that’s no easy feat.
While it is not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it works exceptionally well at just about anything you can throw at it.
All in all, I find MailerLite strikes the best balance Between flexibility, speed and simplicity, and at a price point you’ll seriously struggle to beat.
