MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like many online businesses now, email marketing has been Dominated by the same large players for the last ten years. Which means that they get promoted very heavily and accomplish a lot of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the marketplace, causing long-time users to question their loyalties.

Like most email advertising providers these days, You’ll Need to Go through a review process before being able to correctly use the program.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to finish your profile.
This includes information such as your company name, website, Business, address, company size, list size and also the type of material you plan to send.
Then, You Have to verify your Site (or domain ).
This remains part of this approval process, and MailerLite will Simply inquire which email is related to this domain in order that they can email you a verification link.
Once you’ve completed these Steps, you ought to wait it out.
The MailerLite staff will review your application, check your Website, and determine whether you are a good match for their services.
(Quite simply, they’re making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)
As shown above, you’ll nevertheless be Able to use the software to make campaigns and perform with the attributes, but you will not have the ability to send anything until approved.
I was”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limit of 500 subscribers.
Here Is What the email said:
But while these measures are not ideal for getting started, it Does help prevent malicious users from damaging everyone else’s deliverability.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll rely on automations to handle Nearly all your email marketing.
(We will get to automations soon, do not worry.)
But if it is a new blog post, podcast, or timely Announcement, there’s always some excuse to send a more immediate email.
That’s where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the new’Produce Campaign’ will provide you several options.
– Regular effort: A traditional broadcast email.
– A/B split campaign: Multiple email Versions, such as subject line, from name and, yes, even content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to subscribers who Do not start your broadcast email, together with the choice of altering the subject line and email content.
– RSS campaign: Create a recurring campaign That sends new content to readers using your website’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few additional options, the Majority of these will follow Exactly the same step-by-step procedure of a normal effort.
So let us walk you through it.
As Soon as You click to create your campaign, you’ll be asked to Pick a preferred editor, whether that be the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
You can change to the Templates tab and choose from among their pre-designed email templates — which will move you to the dragn’ drop editor .
At the time of writing, there are 21 email templates to choose From which is somewhat on the low side, however, the layouts are super modern.
And, of course, if you would just Prefer to reuse a previous email, you can click on the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this instance, I’ll choose the first template in the library.
The editor is easy to work with, Which makes customizing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the cubes in the sidebar to include distinct Kinds of articles to your email, such as videos, merchandise columns, and societal connections.
After making your adjustments, simply click’Done Editing’ and you will Be carried to the recipients’ choices where you can select your classes or segments.
The advanced tab also allows you To develop segment-like rules on-the-fly, in case your targeting is not quite perfect.
Finally, before sending, you’ll get into the’Schedule’ screen.
This is where you control if your broadcast email should go Out, if that’s immediately, at a set time/date, or in accordance with your readers time zones.
Impressive, right? Using Salesforce For Email Marketing
Managing Your Subscribers
Having granular control over your subscribers is arguably among The most important aspects of any email advertising program today.
Because highly personalized efforts are necessary if You are looking to increase opens, clicks, and, above all, your own conversions.
And while most providers Permit You to”label” subscribers in order To target them more effectively, MailerLite uses a slightly different strategy.
When you open up your subscriber dash, you’ll see two Options; Segments and Groups.
Segments are basically principles.
Your readers belong to a segment only when they meet the Specified rules, and will be automatically added or eliminated so.
Here’s what establishing a rule looks like:
Notice how you can even combine Rules, as well as an alternate rule if the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The following tab is for groups, and despite the difference in title, These act much like your usual”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the title to’Tags’, but finally decided against it)
Unlike Segments, Groups are upgraded manually or through an Automation rule — that we’ll get to in a minute — and they don’t have any value besides what you call them.
As you start to use this platform, you’ll begin to understand Where Segments and Groups are generally used, however, MailerLite delivers a hand in case you’re unsure:
Fundamentally, groups are much more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber foundation, whereas Segments permit you to lump multiple subscribers together based on a common denominator.
A tad confusing, I will admit… but I feel it is a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. In any case, they’re optional.
Finally, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You will notice that MailerLite has Already populated this region with their own fields, such as name, company, and country.
If You Would like to create your own custom fields, you can do this by Clicking the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they actually work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your readers along with Your custom field information in distinct columns… or may easily add these fields to a types which will only apply to prospective subscribers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test field I made and added into a form:
I will not go too much into the form Things here since I have an entire section on that below, but this is the strategy I’d recommend if you wished to use this feature.
Again, once you’ve collected your custom field information from fresh Readers, you are able to pull them in to your email content and subject line.
Just click on the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Custom field.
I’m barely scraping the surface Of what is possible with custom fields, but it’s important to understand this is a feature you can use.
Overall, it is fair to state MailerLite has their contributor Management and personalization features on stage. Using Salesforce For Email Marketing
If you are not impressed by what you have seen up to Now, then maybe The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ in the forms page, you’ll be Able to pick from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template choice Is not winning any awards, but it will offer a great base to work from if, like the majority of us, you don’t have that pure eye for design.
I went ahead and selected the’Lead Generation’ template, though They all finally do the identical task; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will give you 17 building blocks to Further build or alter your landing page.
Now, I’ve used my fair share of Visual page builders, and this is better than a few dedicated solutions *Infection * WPBakery.
Together with the basic building blocks, you can use elements like Hero segments, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
It won’t be replacing landing Page builders like Thrive Architect or even LeadPagesanytime soon, but credit where credit due, this thing over-delivers on all three kind types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email advertising tools, MailerLite actually Provides a Adequate pair of type building tools.
Also, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this exact same interface, so there is a whole lot to cover .
Let’s start with your Bog-standard embedded form.
These forms are created inside MailerLite so as to get An embed code, which you can then place on your site to show it on particular pages.
Despite starting off super basic, the form designer allows you To personalize everything from the form style, fields, background, title, input fields and, of course, the button.
Form text can also be edited directly, which gives you a Opportunity To envision your own copy in real-time.
It would have been nice to have Some templates here, but as you know, there’s more to some form than simply its appearance.
Clicking the’Settings’ tab will allow you to configure how the Form functions, such as adding extra fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There’s even a GDPR compliance option. Sweet.)
And speaking of the success webpage…
…MailerLite also enables you to customize the default message, That can replace the embedded kind also prevents users from redirecting.
Last but surely not least, you Can assess the way your form displays on cellular by shifting the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t Have the Ability to make any design changes here, but it makes Sense to test, nevertheless.
So that is an overview of this Embedded form but as I said before, you may even create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the majority of the setup Procedure is identical, you will find Still a few differences I’d like to point out.
Unlike embedded forms, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most In depth choice, they do offer a fantastic foundation to work from and the editor is at least as simple to use with this form kind.
Clicking on the’E-commerce’ template requires me to a preview Before moving to the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are some new choices under form types This time around:
Considering paid programs such as Thrive Leads exist for both ribbons and slide-in forms, it is pretty impressive to see this amount of control over popup types.
And, like before, you can perform the styling options to get it Matched with your branding.
Last, you can choose the close Behaviour of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is the X icon, but you can swap out this for A”No thanks” text option, or have both.
This is where most email Marketing platforms would leave you, but MailerLite has one more trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Statistics in the main dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click info, Subscriber development, automation analytics, and kind signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you specific reporting for this campaign.
This is where you’ll discover a few statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying surroundings, email client and much more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average consumer…
…but if you really want To dig into the numbers, it is possible to click into different areas of this report for a more detailed breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.
By Way of Example, the’View Mail’ tab also shows a click map, so You can see how your subscribers interacted with your mails compared to another.
Reports for automations will also be Available under the’Automations’ tab, even though I found to be less insightful than campaign reports.
Here’s a quick example:
Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting port, and many will find the available data more than enough to fulfill their needs.
What’s email marketing without a dash of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could simply make or break this particular review.
The great news? If you have used a visual workflow builder, then You’ll instantly feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, That the automations interface is simple, clean and simple to navigate — something that certainly can’t be said for each and every email marketing software.
After setting your trigger, you can Start adding steps to your workflow.
These measures can be anything from sending an email, adding a Postpone, a conditional split, or an action, like moving a subscriber or updating their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I set together, where subscribers Are unsubscribed if they do not open my email within 7 days.
There are countless Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations similar to this, and MailerLite should not have any trouble with the huge majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something such as ActiveCampaign since it lacks some of the conditional elements. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.. )
For example, there’s currently no automation for moving Subscribers directly into another automation.
That being said, the Majority of these activities can Nevertheless Be achieved by moving Subscribers into different groups that trigger new automation workflows. It is just not as effective…. yet.
Another question of efficiency here is when creating new mails In the automation workflow builder.
After having an email block to The workflow, you’ll be asked to put in your subject line that then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking the’Design email’ button will fire up the Writer:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered earlier in the critique.
This time, but as Soon as You’ve created your email, clicking on the ‘Done editing’ button will guide you back into the automations workflow instead of the usual sending alternatives.
Finally, your email will be Loaded into your automation.
A Wonderful touch here is using a thumbnail preview of your Email inside your automation block, so it’s possible to find an idea about what it contains at a glimpse.
While this procedure may seem like A grind on paper, it’s actually much faster than what I am used to with other email advertising tools — ActiveCampaign being a great example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something such as ConvertKit where The editor is loaded within the automations builder, so you will probably find that this downgrade in performance.
It is fast enough for me, Personally, however I guess it’s all relative.
Before I wrap up this segment, there is 1 type of automation You won’t find in MailerLite, also that I think it’s very important to highlight.
The ability to activate an automation (or measure ) based on the way Readers interact with the pages on your site.
This kind of behavioral targeting only is not accessible MailerLite at this time, so if it’s something you use or intend to utilize, you may want to skip this one. Using Salesforce For Email Marketing
The Price of MailerLite is no doubt among those tools largest Selling points, and let us face it, most of us love a good bargain.
For starters, they offer an infinite free plan that includes All attributes (including premium) for up to 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding in your emails using this plan, it’s still an wonderful alternative for those starting out.
And what about the premium programs?
It ends up, at around half of the Price of this competition on average, MailerLite is by far one of the cheapest options available on the market. Plus, if you are willing to pay annually, you are also able to get an even better discount.
In fact, I have not been able to find anything that does exactly the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is one of those email marketing tools The (very crowded) sector in the last couple of years, which is no simple feat.
While it’s not as quickly as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it performs exceptionally well at just about anything you can throw at it.
Overall, I find MailerLite strikes the best balance Between flexibility, speed and simplicity, and all at a price point you’ll seriously struggle to conquer.
