When I asked you to name an email Marketing instrument, what would you say? Whatcounts
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?

Like most email marketing providers these days, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to correctly use the program.
When you first register, you’ll be asked to complete your profile.
This includes information like your organization name, site, Business, address, company size, list size and also the type of content you intend to send.
Then, You Have to confirm your Website (or domain ).
This remains part of this approval process, and MailerLite will Simply inquire which email is related to this domain so they can email you a verification link.
Once you’ve completed those Steps, you ought to wait it out.
The MailerLite staff will review your application, check your Website, and ascertain whether you are a good match for their services.
(In other words, they are making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)
As shown above, you’ll still be Able to utilize the software to make campaigns and play with the attributes, but you won’t have the ability to send anything before approved.
I was”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limitation of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
However, while these measures are not perfect for getting started, it Does help prevent unscrupulous users from hurting everybody’s deliverability.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll rely upon automations to handle The majority of your email marketing.
(We will get to automations soon, do not worry.)
But if it is a brand new blog article, podcast, or timely Announcement, there is always some excuse to send a more instant email.
That is where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the brand new’Produce Campaign’ will give you several choices.
– Regular campaign: A Conventional broadcast email.
– A/B split effort: Multiple email Variations, such as subject line, from title and, yes, even email content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to subscribers who Do not open your broadcast email, with the option of changing the subject line and email articles.
– RSS campaign: Produce a recurring campaign That sends fresh content to readers using your site’s RSS feed.
Aside from a few additional choices, the Majority of these will follow Exactly the exact same step-by-step procedure of a normal campaign.
So let’s walk you through it.
Once you click on to create your campaign, you’ll be asked to Select a preferred editor, whether that be the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
You can switch to the Templates tab and select from one of their pre-designed email templates — which will move you into the dragn’ drop editor .
In the time of writing, you’ll find 21 email templates to choose From which is somewhat on the low side, however, the designs are super contemporary.
And, of course, if you’d just Like to reuse a previous email, you can click on the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this example, I’ll select the first template from the library.
The editor is easy to use, Which makes customizing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the cubes in the sidebar to include different Kinds of content to your email, such as videos, merchandise columns, and societal connections.
After making your adjustments, simply click’Done Editing’ and you will Be taken to the recipients’ choices where you can choose your classes or segments.
The advanced tab also allows one To develop segment-like rules on-the-fly, in case your targeting is not quite perfect.
Finally, right before sending, you’ll get to the’Schedule’ screen.
This is where you control if your broadcast email should go Out, whether that is instantly, at a set time/date, or according to your subscribers time zones.
Impressive, right? Whatcounts
Handling Your Clients
Possessing granular control over your subscribers is arguably one of The most important facets of any email marketing software now.
Because highly personalized efforts are necessary if You’re looking to increase clicks, opens, and, above all, your conversions.
And while many providers allow you to”label” subscribers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite utilizes a slightly different strategy.
When you open up your subscriber dashboard, you’ll notice two Choices; Segments and Groups.
Segments are basically principles.
Your subscribers belong to a segment only when they fulfill the Specified rules, and are automatically inserted or removed so.
Here’s what setting up a rule looks like:
Notice how you can even combine Rules, as well as an alternate rule when the first doesn’t exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The next tab is for classes, and despite the difference in title, These behave much like your usual”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the title to’Tags’, but ultimately decided against it.)
Contrary to Segments, Groups are upgraded manually or through an Automation principle — that we’ll get into in a minute — and they don’t have any value besides what you call them.
As you start to use this stage, you’ll Start to understand Where Segments and Groups are typically used, however, MailerLite delivers a hand in the event you’re uncertain:
Basically, groups are more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments allow you to lump multiple subscribers together based on a common denominator.
Somewhat confusing, I will admit… but I feel it is a fair trade-off For the additional flexibility. In any case, they’re optional.
Last, the’Fields’ tab is used to customize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this region with their particular areas, such as name, company, and country.
If You Would like to create your own custom fields, you can do so by Clicking the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they actually work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your subscribers along with Your custom field information in distinct columns… or can easily add these fields to your forms which will only apply to prospective readers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test field I created and added into a form:
I won’t go too much into the form Stuff here since I have an entire section on this below, but this is the strategy I would recommend if you wished to use this feature.
Again, once you’ve gathered your custom field data from new Readers, you can pull them in to your email content and subject line.
Just click on the’Personalization’ drop down and select your Custom field.
I’m barely scraping the surface Of what’s possible with custom fields, but it is important that you know this is a feature you can use.
Overall, it’s fair to say MailerLite has their subscriber Direction and personalization features on stage. Whatcounts
If you’re not impressed with what you have seen so far, then perhaps The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After selecting’Landing Pages’ in the forms page, you’ll be Able to select from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template choice Isn’t winning any awards, it does offer a great base to work from if, like most people, you do not have that natural eye for layout.
I went ahead and selected the’Lead Generation’ template, though They all ultimately do the identical job; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will Provide you 17 building blocks to Further build or change your landing page.
Now, I’ve used my fair share of Visual site builders, and this is already better than a few dedicated alternatives *cough* WPBakery.
Along with the fundamental building blocks, you can use components like Hero sections, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
It will not be replacing landing Page builders like Thrive Architect or LeadPagesanytime shortly, but credit where credit due, this thing over-delivers on all 3 kind types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email advertising tools, MailerLite actually Provides a Decent set of form building tools.
Also, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this same interface, so there is a whole lot to cover .
Let us begin with your Bog-standard embedded type.
These forms are first created inside MailerLite in order to get An embed code, which you can then put on your website to display it on specific pages.
Despite beginning super fundamental, the form designer allows you To personalize everything in the kind style, subjects, background, name, enter fields and, of course, the button.
Form text can also be edited directly, which gives you a Opportunity To visualize your copy in real-time.
It would have been nice to have Some templates here, but as you know, there is more to a form than simply its appearance.
Clicking the’Settings’ tab will Make It Possible for you to configure the way the Form works, such as adding extra fields and setting a custom success page.
(There is a GDPR compliance alternative. Sweet.)
And talking of the success page…
…MailerLite also lets you customize the default message, Which can replace the embedded kind also prevents users .
Last but certainly not least, you Can check the way your form displays on cellular by shifting the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t be able to make any layout changes here, but it makes Sense to check, nevertheless.
So that is an overview of this Embedded form but as I said before, you may also create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the Vast Majority of this setup Procedure is identical, you will find Still a few differences I’d love to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most Comprehensive selection, they do provide a good foundation to work from and the editor is just as simple to use with this form kind.
Clicking on the’E-commerce’ template requires me into a preview Before moving into the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are some new choices under form types Now around:
Considering paid programs like Thrive Leads exist for ribbons and slide-in forms, it’s pretty impressive to observe this level of control over popup forms.
And, like before, you can perform with the styling options to get it Matched with your own branding.
Finally, you can Select the near Behaviour of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is the X icon, but you can swap out this for A”No thanks” text option, or have .
This is really where most email Marketing platforms will leave you, but MailerLite has one more trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like most tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Data in the main dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from campaign open and click data, Subscriber development, automation stats, and kind signups.
Clicking into any effort will Give you specific coverage for this effort.
This is where you’ll find some more advanced statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, reading environment, email client and much more.
This should be plenty of Information for the ordinary user…
…but if you really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into individual areas of the report for a more comprehensive breakdown.
You can find some real gems under These reports.
For example, the’View Email’ tab also shows a click map, so It’s possible to see your subscribers interacted with your emails compared to another.
Reports for automations are Available under the’Automations’ tab, even although I found these to be less enlightening than campaign reports.
Here’s a quick example:
Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting interface, and most will find the available data more than sufficient to meet their demands.
What is email marketing without a dashboard of automation?
For many reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could simply make or break this particular review.
The great news? If you have ever used a visual workflow builder, then You will instantly feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, The automations interface is simple, clean and easy to navigate — something that certainly can not be said for each and every email advertising software.
After establishing your trigger, you can Start adding measures to your workflow.
These steps could be anything from sending an email, including a Postpone, a conditional split, or an action, such as transferring a contributor or upgrading their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I put together, where readers Are unsubscribed if they do not open my email within 7 days.
There are countless Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations similar to this, and MailerLite should have no trouble with the huge majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign since it lacks some of the conditional elements. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.. )
For example, there’s currently no automation for moving Subscribers directly into another automation.
That being said, the Majority of these activities can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into different classes that activate new automation workflows. It’s just much less effective…. yet.
Another matter of efficiency here is when generating new mails From the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email block to The workflow, you’ll be asked to add your subject line which appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking on the’Design email’ button will automatically fire up the Editor:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the standard campaign creation wizard, which I covered earlier in the review.
This time, but once you’ve created your email, clicking on the ‘Done editing’ button will guide you back to the automations workflow instead of the usual sending options.
Ultimately, your email address will probably be Loaded into your own automation.
A Wonderful touch here is having a thumbnail preview of your Email inside your automation cube, which means it’s possible to find an idea about what it contains at a glimpse.
While this process may seem like A grind on paper, it’s really much faster than what I’m utilized to with other email marketing tools — ActiveCampaign being a great example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something such as ConvertKit where The editor is loaded within the automations builder, you will likely find that this downgrade in functionality.
It is fast enough for me, Personally, however I guess it’s all relative.
Before I wrap up this segment, there’s one Kind of automation You will not find in MailerLite, also that I think it’s important to highlight.
The ability to trigger an automation (or measure ) based on the way Subscribers interact with the pages on your website.
This kind of behavioral targeting only is not available in MailerLite right now, so if it’s something you use or intend to use, you may want to skip this one. Whatcounts
The Price of MailerLite is among those tools biggest Selling points, and let us face it, we all love a fantastic deal.
For starters, they offer an infinite free plan that includes All features (including premium) for as many as 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding in your emails using this plan, it is still an wonderful alternative for those starting out.
And what about the top programs?
It ends up, at around half of the Price of this competition on average, MailerLite is undoubtedly one of the least expensive options available on the industry. Plus, if you’re ready to pay yearly, you can also get an even greater discount.
In fact, I haven’t been able to locate anything that does the Exact Same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is among those very few advertising tools The (very crowded) industry in recent decades, and that’s no easy feat.
While it is not as quickly as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it works exceptionally well at just about anything you can throw at it.
All in all, I find MailerLite strikes the best balance Between flexibility, simplicity and speed, and all at a price point you will seriously struggle to conquer.
Thinking about giving it a twist? Let us know how it works for you In the comments. Whatcounts
