Intro Zapier Email Marketing
When I asked you to name an email Marketing tool, what would you say? Zapier Email Marketing
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like most online industries now, email advertising has been Dominated by the same big players for the previous ten years. Which means they get encouraged very deeply and achieve a lot of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the marketplace, inducing long-time customers to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done exactly that.
So today, in this short article, I’ll be tearing MailerLite from limb To limb to see if it really stands its own ground against the big boys…

Like most email marketing providers these days, You’ll Need to Go through a review process before being able to correctly use the program.
When you first register, you’ll be asked to complete your profile.
This includes information such as your company name, website, Industry, address, business size, record size and even the kind of content you plan to send.
Then, You Have to confirm your Site (or domain name).
This remains part of this acceptance process, and MailerLite will Simply inquire which email is associated to this domain in order that they can email you a confirmation link.
Once you’ve completed these Measures, you ought to wait it out.
The MailerLite team will review your application, check your Website, and ascertain whether you’re a good match for their service.
(In other words, they’re making sure you’re not a spammer/scammer)
As revealed above, you’ll nevertheless be Able to use the software to make campaigns and play with the attributes, but you won’t have the ability to send anything before accepted.
I was”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limit of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
But while these measures aren’t perfect for getting started, it Does help stop unscrupulous users from hurting everybody’s deliverability.
If you are anything like me, you’ll rely on automations to Deal with Nearly all your email advertising.
(We’ll get to automations shortly, don’t worry.)
But if it is a brand new blog post, podcast, or timely Announcement, there’s always some excuse to send a more immediate email.
That’s where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the new’Produce Campaign’ will give you several options.
– Regular campaign: A traditional broadcast email.
– A/B split campaign: Multiple email Versions, such as subject line, from name and, yes, even email content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to readers who Don’t start your broadcast email, with the choice of changing the subject line and email content.
– RSS campaign: Create a recurring campaign That sends fresh content to readers using your site’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few added choices, the Majority of these will follow The same step-by-step procedure of a normal campaign.
So let us walk you through it.
As Soon as You click on to create your campaign, you’ll be asked to Select a preferred editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
You can switch to the Templates tab and select from among the pre-designed email templates — which will move you to the dragn’ drop editor by default.
At the time of writing, you’ll find 21 email templates to choose From which is somewhat on the low side, but the designs are super contemporary.
And, of course, if you’d just Like to reuse a previous email, you can click the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this example, I will choose the first template from the library.
The editor is easy to work with, Making customizing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the cubes in the sidebar to add distinct Types of articles to your email, including videos, product columns, and social links.
After making your changes, simply click’Done Editing’ and you will Be taken to the recipients’ choices where you can select your groups or sections.
The advanced tab also allows you To develop segment-like rules on-the-fly, in case your targeting isn’t quite right.
Finally, before sending, you’ll get into the’Schedule’ screen.
This is where you control if your broadcast email should go Out, if that is immediately, at a set time/date, or according to your readers time zones.
Impressive, right? Zapier Email Marketing
Managing Your Subscribers
Having granular control over your subscribers is arguably among The most important aspects of any email marketing program today.
Because highly personalized efforts are necessary if You’re looking to increase clicks, opens, and, above all, your conversions.
And while most providers Permit You to”label” subscribers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite utilizes a slightly different strategy.
When you open up your subscriber dash, you’ll notice two Options; Segments and Groups.
Segments are essentially rules.
Your readers belong to a segment only when they fulfill the Specified principles, and will be automatically added or removed so.
Here’s what setting up a rule looks like:
Notice how you can even blend Rules, in addition to another rule when the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The next tab is for classes, and also the difference in name, These act much like your usual”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the name to’Tags’, but ultimately decided against it.)
Contrary to Segments, Groups are upgraded manually or via an Automation rule — which we will get to in a minute — and they have no value besides what you actually call them.
As you start to use this stage, you’ll begin to understand At which Segments and Groups are typically used, however, MailerLite delivers a hand in the event you’re uncertain:
Basically, groups are more of a Deliberate action on a per-subscriber foundation, whereas Segments allow you to lump multiple subscribers together based on a frequent denominator.
A tad confusing, I’ll admit… but I feel it is a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. In any case, they’re discretionary.
Finally, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this area with their own areas, such as name, business, and country.
If You Would like to create your own custom fields, you can do this by Clicking on the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV file of your readers together with Your custom field information in distinct columns… or may simply add these fields to a forms which will only apply to prospective subscribers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test field I created and added to a form:
I will not go too much into the form Things here since I have an entire section on this below, but this is the strategy I’d recommend if you wished to use this attribute.
Again, as Soon as You’ve collected your custom field data from fresh Subscribers, you can pull them in to your email content and subject line.
Just click on the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Custom field.
I am barely scratching the surface Of what is possible with custom fields, but it is important that you know this is a feature you may use.
Overall, it is fair to state MailerLite has their contributor Direction and personalization features on stage. Zapier Email Marketing
If you are not impressed with what you have seen so far, then maybe The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ from the forms page, you’ll be Able to select from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template choice Is not winning any awards, it does offer a fantastic foundation to work from if, for example the majority of us, you do not have that pure eye for layout.
I went ahead and selected the’Lead Generation’ template, though They finally do the same task; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will give you 17 building blocks to Further build or change your landing page.
Now, I’ve used my fair share of Visual site builders, and this is better than a few dedicated solutions *Infection * WPBakery.
Together with the basic building blocks, you can use components like Hero segments, popup buttons, reviews and countdown timers.
No, it will not be replacing landing Page builders such as Thrive Architect or even LeadPagesanytime soon, but credit where credit due, this thing over-delivers on all three form types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email marketing tools, MailerLite really offers a Decent pair of form building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this same interface, so there is a lot to cover .
Let us start with your Bog-standard embedded form.
These forms are created inside MailerLite so as to get An embed code, which you can then put on your website to display it on particular pages.
Despite beginning super basic, the form designer allows you To personalize everything from the kind style, subjects, background, name, input fields and, clearly, the button.
Form text may also be edited directly, which Provides you a Opportunity To visualize your copy in real-time.
It would have been nice to have Some templates, but as you know, there’s more to some form than simply its appearance.
Clicking on the’Settings’ tab will Make It Possible for you to configure how the Form works, including adding extra fields and setting a custom success page.
(There is even a GDPR compliance alternative. Sweet.)
And speaking of the success page…
…MailerLite also lets you customize the default message, That can replace the embedded form and prevents users .
Last but certainly not least, you Can assess the way your form screens on cellular by shifting the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t be able to make any design changes here, but it makes Sense to check, nevertheless.
So that is an overview of the Embedded form but like I said before, you may also create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the Vast Majority of this installation process is identical, you will find A few differences I’d love to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most In depth choice, they do provide a fantastic foundation to work from and the editor is at least as simple to use with this form type.
Clicking on the’E-commerce’ template takes me to a preview Before moving into the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are a few new options under form types This time around:
Contemplating paid programs such as Thrive Leads exist for ribbons and slide-in forms, it’s pretty impressive to observe this level of control over popup forms.
And, as before, you can play the styling options to get it Matched with your branding.
Finally, you can Select the close Behaviour of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is that the X icon, but you can swap out this for A”No thanks” text option, or have .
That is where most email Marketing platforms would leave you, but MailerLite has one more trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like most tools, you’ll find a summary of your effort Statistics in the main dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click info, Subscriber development, automation analytics, and kind signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you special reporting for this campaign.
This is where you’ll find a few more advanced statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying environment, email client and more.
This should be plenty of Information for the ordinary user…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, it is possible to click into individual areas of the report to get a more comprehensive breakdown.
You can find some real gems under These reports.
For example, the’View Email’ tab also displays a click map, so You can see how your readers interacted to another.
Reports for automations are Accessible under the’Automations’ tab, though I found these to be less enlightening than campaign reports.
Here’s a quick example:
Total, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting port, and many will find the available statistics more than sufficient to fulfill their needs.
What’s email advertising without a dashboard of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could simply make or break this review.
The great news? If you have ever used a visual workflow builder, You’ll instantly feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, The automations interface is simple, clean and easy to navigate — something which certainly can not be said for every email marketing program.
After setting your trigger, you can Start adding steps to your workflow.
These steps could be anything from sending an email, adding a Delay, a conditional split, or an action, like transferring a contributor or updating their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I put together, where readers Are unsubscribed when they don’t open my email within seven days.
There are countless Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite should not have any trouble with the huge majority of use cases.
Granted, it is not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign because it lacks some of the conditional components. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.. )
For Instance, there’s currently no automation for moving Subscribers directly into a different automation.
That being said, the Majority of these actions can Nevertheless Be achieved by moving Subscribers into different groups that activate new automation workflows. It is just not as effective…. yet.
Another question of efficacy here is when creating new mails In the automation workflow builder.
After having an email cube to The workflow, you will be asked to put in your topic line which then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking the’Design email’ button will fire up the Editor:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered previously in the review.
This time, but as Soon as You’ve created your email, clicking the ‘Done editing’ button will direct you back to the automations workflow rather than the usual sending options.
Finally, your email address will probably be Loaded into your automation.
A nice touch here is using a thumbnail preview of your Email inside your automation cube, so it’s possible to get an concept of what it contains at a glance.
While this process may seem like A grind on paper, it’s really much faster than what I am utilized to with other email marketing tools — ActiveCampaign being a great example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something such as ConvertKit where The editor is loaded inside the automations builder, you’ll probably find that this downgrade in functionality.
It is fast enough for me, Personally, but I guess it’s all relative.
Before I wrap up this section, there is 1 type of automation You will not find in MailerLite, also that I think it’s important to highlight.
The ability to activate an automation (or measure ) based on the way Readers interact with all the webpages on your website.
This Sort of behavioral targeting only isn’t accessible MailerLite at this time, so if it’s something you use or plan to use, you may want to skip this one. Zapier Email Marketing
The cost of MailerLite is undoubtedly one of those tools biggest Selling things, and let’s face it, most of us love a fantastic bargain.
For starters, they offer an infinite free plan that includes All attributes (including premium) to get up to 1,000 subscribers.
While There’s some subtle Branding in your emails using this program, it is still an amazing alternative for anyone starting out.
And what about the premium plans?
It turns out, at approximately half of the Price of the competition generally, MailerLite is undoubtedly one of the cheapest options available on the industry. Plus, if you’re ready to pay annually, you can also get a much greater discount.
In fact, I haven’t been able to locate anything that does the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is among those email marketing tools The (very crowded) industry in the last couple of years, and that’s no simple feat.
While it is not as quickly as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it works exceptionally well at virtually anything you can throw at it.
I find MailerLite strikes the best balance Between flexibility, simplicity and speed, and all at a price point you’ll seriously struggle to conquer.
Thinking of giving it a twist? Let us know how it works for you In the comments. Zapier Email Marketing
